Yakari, while riding his horse through the woods, happens upon a colony of beavers. While enjoying a dip in the river with them, Yakari discovers that each has his own personality and characteristics. The storyline is message-driven and teaches children about tolerance, friendship and respect for the environment. Beautiful full colour illustrations complement simple, easy-to-read texts to make reading appealing to children of all reading levels, and especially to reluctant readers.

About the author

André Jobin, known as Job, was a Swiss francophone comics creator. He is probably best known for his western children's comics series Yakari, for which he wrote the scripts from 1973 until 2016.

A simple and charming tale about beavers.

Very little conflict. There is a brief threat from a bear and one of the beavers gets lost. That’s the highlight. The solution is quite clever, making use of the beavers’ special abilities.

The story is mostly told in real time — the moment to moment adventures of an Indian and his animal friends. But there are a few well-placed captions to speed things along, most notably one that elides Yakari’s rescue plan.

The art is very well done with vivid caricatures and lush landscapes.

'Yakari bij de bevers' is een gezellig album, waarin Yakari nieuwe vrienden maakt en zijn vriendinnetje Regenboog erachter komt dat hij met dieren kan praten. Dit album is misschien minder spannend dan sommige andere albums, de bevers zijn wel leuke karakters, en Yakari verricht nog een dappere daad door het redden van Linde.

Ta uroczą opowiastka rozczuliła mnie i rozrzewniła a z drugiej strony rozbawiła jak mało która komedia. Włączenie do serii o indiańskim chłopcu, rozumiejącym mowę zwierząt, bobrowej rodzinki, było strzałem w dziesiątkę.

Sveitsiläisen Derib ja Job -kaksikon yhteistyönä syntynyt "Yakari majavien mailla" (Otava, 1983) on järjestyksessään kolmas Yakari-tarina. Sarjakuvan päähenkilö on sioux-intiaanipoika Yakari, jolla on salaisuus - hän osaa nimittäin puhua eläinten kanssa!

Sarjakuvassa Yakari kohtaa persoonallisen majavalauman, johon kuuluvat muun muassa äkäinen Isokita, taiteilija Hammas-Hammas ja unelias Vuoteenpohja. Majavat rakentavat patoa läheiseen jokeen. Yakari ystävystyy lauman kanssa, ja sitten koetaan pieniä seikkailuja, joissa uhmataan äkäistä karhua ja etsitään kadonnutta majavanpoikasta. Mukana menossa häärivät myös Yakarin ystävät, intiaanityttö Sateenkaari, poni Pikku Ukkonen ja tiukan paikan tullen hyviä neuvoja jakava toteemieläin Suuri Kotka.

Ihan pienillekin lapsille soveltuva "Yakari majavien mailla" on niin käsikirjoituksensa kuin kuvituksensa puolesta laatutyötä. Kunpa näistä saataisiin joskus uusi painos!

The first comic book from my childhood that I read with my daughter, Leona. We will get more Yakari at the local library soon. She is enjoying them.
