Outstanding Book
Superb book with first-hand accounts of the action of general Patton. The author was on Patton’s staff and therefore could give touches of realism that could not have been available to a researcher.
The details are amazing and I appreciate the authors time. Great book

Difficult to follow all the various troops involved unless you were very familiar with how they were arranged. Still an interesting read.

I was really disappointed in this free Kindle download. It offered little insight into that great general or any new knowledge that any reader of the European Theater of World War 2 probably did not already know. At one point in the book, the author described a typical staff meeting of General Patton's, and then I realized that the entire book really reminded me of a really fleshed out staff meeting. Rather dull. And that is a shame. But then again the author was a staff officer in the Third Army. So that would explain that.
If you want to learn something about General Patton, read something else. If you want to learn of the exploits of the Third Army in Europe, read something else.

Interesting account of Third Army in Europe under Patton written by one of his staff officers, so it's fairly biased towards him and his troops. Learned some new facts and stories about Patton and the Allied High Command, nothing earth-shattering but held my attention throughout. A combination of personal remembrance and military history of WWII.

In this well-written story about General Patton’s campaign in Europe after D day, we have a story by one of the General’s aides who witnessed the daily details of this brilliant leader. The writer had all of the knowledge about the planning and execution as the American Army moved from the beaches of Normandy to the Rhine. This story will appeal to readers of military history and the casual reader who enjoys a well-done story.
My only concern with the book is a small one. How is it that we can get such a good narrative of the campaign and have so little about the man. The man, General Patton is almost absent from the pages. Not until the very end of the book do we get any light on Patton the man. The author was an eyewitness to this story, but, gave us so little. There is another story here. I am so sorry that the author chose not to write it.

Another Good Read
This book focused on the events taking place in General Patton's Third US Army following the time where they shipped out from their based on The United Kingdom through the breakout from Normandy to the end of the war in Germany. Most of the history I have read on WWII have told the story of the common soldier and his experiences. While that is obviously of utmost importance, this book offers some insights into the war from the standpoint of one member of General Patton's Staff! There are many little things in the book which shed light into his personality which I had not read anywhere else. An excellent addition to anyone's knowledge who is a student of that period in history!

There are many inconsistencies
I respect General George Patton in the highest regard. While most of the book was a very good read if the author thought the Red Cross did a great job all he had to do was attended one of the 38th engineers reunions. I was just a kid but they cussed the RC up and down. My wife even mentioned to me (20 years later) how red my dad's face was just talking about it. He conveniently mentioned a meeting with Eisenhower in March where he said Patton never made a mistake, but not what time period. Operation Baum was a disaster that cost way too many American lives carelessly. There are others but it could have been a five star book if there was more honesty.

This book was written by Patton’s Liasion officer who was also a General under Patton’s command. The book focuses on the logistics of General Patton’s push across Europe to liberate France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany. The book shows how Patton’s tactics were superior to winning the war and he did not allow the German army to regroup and cause the US more casualties. Patton required discipline and instilled loyalty in his soldiers. He made many trips to the front to judge for himself how the war was progressing. He was a brilliant war hero and no one has come close to his performance. WWII history buffs would enjoy this book.

In between celebrating Grandkid birthdays in Texas I finished, Patton And His Third Army by Brenton G. Wallace a diary of General Patton and the Third Army from July 1944 until the end of the war. Patton’s men adored him and Brenton Wallace as a former Third Army staff officer is clearly in that camp. This book was written shortly after Patton’s death from an auto accident in Germany in December 1945. The book includes accounts of Third Army battles from the German point of view. Patton was a paradox, profane yet religious, beloved by his troops, feared by rivals and greatly respected by the Germans.

Fantastic story, filled with details, no fiction, all personal experiences with knowledge from the top. Patton led the Third Army in the most devastating and successful actions of the European theater. Extremely successful Nazi generals tried to guess what he would do next, in failed attempts to stop the Third, due to Patton's genius of never doing the expected, and like a magician's slight of hand, he out maneuvered the Nazi's time and time again.
Had he not been killed, he would have changed the course of history as President after Truman..North Korea, and China would be different countries today, and the Vietnam war would never have happened..

Laudatory—to the over the top— story of Patton’s Third Army’s rout of the Germans once Patton landed in France shortly after the invasion on D Day. Very detailed descriptions of the numerous battles and skirmishes that Patton dominated for months in the latter part of 1944 and to the end of the European War in Aug 1945, including the hair-raising, almost successful, German counter attack at the Battle of the Bulge. My copy — a very late edition— contains an inscription from the author, Brig General Brenton G. Wallace, to my father- in- law, Joe F Burdett, dated 22 April 1954.

Best Patton Story I've Read
Best factual story I've ever read written about General Patton by someone who was there. I served in the Third Army (inactive) at Fort McPherson, GA in the sixties. General Patton was one of my heroes as a very young person. I read everything about him that I could because I thought that he was one of the best wartime leaders who ever lived. My grandfather, a WW1 vet , and my dad, a WW2 vet, spoke very highly of him.

Very well written and told, from the field
This book was great and shared a lot of facts directly from the field. A lot of information was provided that I never heard about, or better explained such as the Patton slapping incident. I recently heard an Armmy WWII vereran speak about his experiences at war against Germany and a lot of what he said was in this book. Simply amazing, very well written and told.

A good historical based story of the 3rd Army and Gn. PATTON
I liked this book first for the first hand view of someone that was close to Gen. Patton. A little confusing for someone that doesn't understand Army divisions and such but a great step by step travel with Patton's third Army on their March into Germany and what there was about Patton that made him not only a great leader but made his men love him.

A succinct overview of the operations of the US Third Army in NW Europe, from July 1944 in Normandy to May 1945 in Germany and Austria. Not a combat history as such, but the recollections of one of Patton's senior staff officers. In that way, a unique history, looking at war from the view held not by a commander or combatant, but from that of the vital cog between the two, so necessary once armies and war got to large to command by one man from horseback.

Good book. Well written, but title Patton is a misnomer. It is the war diary of the author, one of Patton's staff members. He frequently talks about Patton, but most of the material is about the third army and his personal stories and experiences. It is a good read, but is only partially about Patton.

A good history of Patton’s 3rd Army during WWII in Europe while fighting. A lot of troop movement details, some anecdotes about the fighting and Patton. Written by a senior member of Patton’s staff. No great insight into Patton, but what appears to be an accurate record of observations. A good read

My uncle was in the battles under General Patton so I was interested in reading the book. While there were many facts concerning military groups under his leadership that were beyond my military knowledge, I found the book interesting and heart breaking. The data about lives lost, prisoners taken and military wounded is difficult to comprehend.

A well done narrative by a peripheral colonel a staff officer on Patton's support staff. when he addresses the war his observations are a real contribution from an eye witness to the saga of Third Army. when he discusses Patton he quickly begins wallowing in superlatives not often seen in the complicated, corrosive general's more notable biographies.

Excellence has no peer
This book describes exactly General Patton as he was to his officers and men. I enjoyed it much. Perhaps because I was in Germany in our occupation troops and saw Heidelberg and some of the same places that he saw before he passed.

The Greatest General
This is a very educational history of Pattons Army. You really need a mOuntain of France and Germany to get a clear grasp of what is going on with the Third Army. There will never be another General like Patton. God rest his soul.

An inspiring story
I enjoyed this book very much. It gave me a new insight into World War II. The only parts which I did not like we're that it was too technical in some parts. Also it did not give me a deeper insight into Patton the Man. What went into developing his character.

A behind the scene look at General Patton's army in WWII. Primary sources from his chief of staff. Written just after the war, it is an older style of writing than people expect today. I liked the details that explains the story of the March of the Third Army.

Great read
The writer, serving on General Patton's staff had first hand knowledge of his leadership. The General certainly practiced what he preached concerning winning in war to get home. There was no mention of Patton's chaplain and the prayer for clear skies.

Very detailed account of the great general's role in winning the war in Europe. Obviously written by a military man, so it lacks a lot of "action" accounts. I hope it makes readers realize all of the detail that goes into planning and executing during a war.
