Divas Series #2

Street Divas

Rate this book
"In De'nesha Diamond's explosive series, the fiercest ride-or-die chicks in Memphis are battling alongside-and against-their ruthless men, to be the last diva standing ... On these Dirty South streets, revenge is sweet opportunity. Now the women who help rule the hood are out to take ultimate control. Merciless lieutenant Lucifer drops as many bodies as she can to avenge a devastating shooting and consolidate her new power. Loyal gang member Essence discovers friendship has lethal limits when she falls for her best friend's man. Ever-ambitious Yolanda is angling hard to go from a king hustler's baby mama to his one and only. But Queen G LeShelle will betray any trust and take out any obstacle to make the game hers alone. And when these four women push their vendettas past the point of no return, it's a war only the most deadly diva will survive ... Praise for Hustlin' Divas "A nonstop, hard-hitting page-turner." -Tu-Shonda L. Whitaker "Diamond's ear for street talk comes across loud and clear ... a violent and profane tale, which launches a gritty new series. The divas here are realistic characters, and the pacing zooms . . . one of the best constructed street lit stories of 2010." -Library Journal "

Usually the thugs in the books are male. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that the females in Street Divas were not only backing up their male counterparts, they were pretty much holding their own as well. Although at times I thought the criminal element in the story was a little over the top, the points made were key to the tale that unfolds. There's a gangwar going on in Memphis, TN, which pits brother against brother and surprisingly, sister against sister. Even the police are two faced here. No one is safe when the gangs decide that the final showdown must take place. The Black Gangster Disciples vs the Vice Lords cause the streets of Memphis to run red with blood and their female counterparts will not be left out of the bloodshed. This street tale will have the reader on the edge waiting to see what happens next and they will not be disappointed. The ladies are not to be "slept" on as they will pull their guns just as quick as the men. There is one sister whose nickname is Lucifer and she lives up to that descriptive. I did not want to put this book down. I highly recommend this book to readers as I'm sure they will be will enjoy it as I did.:-)

‘You’ll be my King and I’m your Queen to be…’

Hustlin’ Diva’s left us in the aftermath of havoc wreaked by the evil LeShelle’s wrath for anyone that threatens her position as HBIC with Python. She orders the beating and deflowering of her baby sister, Ta’Shara while she stands watch as they attempt to murder Ta’Shara’s lover, Profitt. Meanwhile Python discovers his secret lover and mother of one of his son’s, police woman, Melanie and his arch enemy, Mason, in the throes of passion. Bullets are flying, blood is flowing, flesh is being torn away, death is looming, secrets are rising to the surface, emotions are amuck, and the streets of Memphis are filled with cruel, ruthless, vindictive, and evil gang bangers that have no conscious and take no prisoners.

Momma Peaches is still rocking that prosthesis and driving the young men crazy with her sex game, the police are heated as they have lost one of their colleagues, Yolanda is still trying to figure out how to oust LaShelle from her position, and what are the consequences to the vile acts contracted on Profitt and Ta’Shara….these are questions that you’ll have to find within the pages the politically incorrect yet critically acclaimed Street Divas! Street Divas returns with even more malevolent acts as the characters roles are intensified even more so than in their predecessor, Hustlin’ Divas. De’Nesha Diamond made her pen bleed blood red with this pulsating depiction of the life of female gangstas and the men that stimulates them to become beasts. I commend the author for the blinding yet addictive luminosity in this read. The raw emotions exhibited only incited the powerful plots of each volatile scenario. D. Diamond…gurl, gurl, gurl, you did that! This is a masterpiece, real talk, true story!!!

Street Divas picks right back up where Hustlin' Divas left off. Python and Mason are still at it and Officer Melanie Johnson is caught up in the showdown. From the first page my heart was immediately pumping from all the excitement going on and had me feeling like I was right there in each scene. Street Divas has so many twist and turns and character connections that it leaves you floored and unable to figure out what is going to happen next.It is good to know that there will be a book 3 becuase the end definitely left me hanging and thirsty for me. Author did a great job with this sequel and I am definitely looking forward to more. I would recommend both Hustlin Divas and Street Divas to anyone that hasn't read them yet.

"Street Divas" by De'nesha Diamond was hot...red hot!!! The author immediately brought me into the book. The action started right away. The scenes were painted bright and vivid, and the characters were well-written. I mean, I felt like I was living on ShotGun Row, I could just feel Python's pet snakes crawling all around me, and I started to hate LeShelle's throne with a passion. Ms. Diamond really outdid herself here. I really enjoyed how the events and people connected, like how Cousin Skeet ended up being "Supercop," and Mason ended up being Terrell's long-lost brother. Ms. Diamond had me all wrapped up.
The only criticism I would give is that the book was a cliff-hanger...I was wondering what was going to happen next when the movie ended, did Momma Peaches end up leaving Issac and marrying Cedric, and what happened to Python's and Yolonda's baby, but the cliff-hanger's okay because I'm already getting ready to read the next book to check out what happens in this street-lit drama.
I give it 5 stars.

Street Divas by De'nesha Diamond picks up literally where part one, Hustling Divas, left off.
Leshelle is still gunning for the number one spot in her boyfriend's, Python, heart,no matter who she hurts in the process. After years of being together, will she finally have what it takes to become his wife?
Ta'Shara's life is turned upside down by her sister's treachery from part one. Will she ever overcome those demons and move on?
Lucifer is Fat Ace's sidekick through thick and thin, but when feelings begin to surface, will that be the end of this dynamic duo?
Throughout this book, we catch glimpses of each characters past which helps us to piece the pieces together of who've they've become. There wwere so many twists and turns. I did not want this story to end. Can't wait for part 3. 5 stars!!!

The streets of Memphis are hot in Street Divas by De’Nesha Diamond. This follow up to Hustlin’ Divas places readers back in the lives of females whose mission is to fight by their men’s side. LeShelle takes her role as the leader of Queen’s G seriously and will do anything to keep her title. She has no problem with laying down the law and making sure other females know who she is and what she represents.

Lucifer has always been a ride-or-die chick and has no problem with cleaning up other members messes. Lucifer has a unique way of getting answers and feels an adrenaline rush when weaklings bow down to her. She takes no prisoners and in her path no one is an exception to the rule.

Ta’Shara refuses to follow in her big sister, LeShelle’s, footsteps because she does not want a life of hustlin’ and crime. Ta’Shara does know the rules of the game and when she falls in love with Profit, a rival gang member, the Black Gangster Disciplines and Queen G’s are not having it. Essence has always had her best friend, Ta’Shara’s back. Essence tells her that dating a rival gang member will cause problems but Ta’Shara does not listen. Essence’s loyalty is questioned when she falls for her best friend’s man and she finds herself in the middle of a dire situation.

Yolanda takes pride in being the chick on the side and her feelings for Python have not swayed, but now she wants the wifey title. Yolanda has one problem; the roadblock in her plan is the infamous LeShelle who wants the key to Python’s heart as well. Yolanda has her work cut out for her but on the other hand so does LeShelle.

Street Divas is about hidden agendas, lies and tested loyalty. The raw mentality of these women will have readers turning pages anticipating their next moves. It was a suspenseful and entertaining book full of deceit and revenge just the way I like it. I recommend Street Divas to others who enjoy books dealing with life in an urban setting.

Gang-Related

“Hustlin’ Divas” ended with the showdown of all showdowns about to go down! And “Street Divas” picks up right there. So much happens that it’s impossible to summarize. Most revolves around the ongoing war between the Black Gangster Disciples and Vice Lords.

I had to think on this one for a day or two to decide exactly how I felt about this book. Had to let it marinate. Again, like with its predecessor, there was some strong writing that included things I liked and things I did not. Diamond (Byrd) can certainly deliver a story that holds readers with no wane in interest. Being able to write in more than one genre successfully, the sister has true talent. With “Street Divas,” Diamond has crafted a highly entertaining tale – an urban spin on Romeo and Juliet - with complex, layered plots and dropped in some surprises to bring it all together. She envelops readers in the underworld of the Black Gangster Disciples and Vice Lords. You root for some characters while wishing death for others.

Disappointing, I have the same complaint with this book as I had with the prior book. There are times I felt the novel tried too hard and I wished that Diamond had pulled back some. Talent and skill are talent and skill and all the extra is not needed.

I also was very disappointed that this storyline was not brought to a conclusion and that there will be yet another book. Had I known going into this book that it didn’t end, I can’t say that I would have even read it. To Diamond’s credit, this sequel is a story in itself, meaning it was not a retelling of book one or no new material. Readers learn more about characters through flashbacks that proved useful. I’ll read “Gangsta Divas” as I’d like to see how things will play out, but I do hope that will be it.

If you’re looking for a page-turner, “Street Divas” is the book for you.

Lethal Limits

A murder, kidnapping, and a brutal attack have us back patrolling the streets of Memphis. With everybody on high alert, Lucifer, the Vice Lords second in command, is utilizing her new found power to find out who had the heart to go against her team. What she learns has her mapping out a plan of her own to exact revenge.

LeShelle regrets very little. Ta'Shara rolled the dice and crapped out. Now that Python has placed the ring on LeShelle's finger, she needs to get him to actually sign his name on the dotted line. With so much going on in the street, it's important that LeShelle cover all of her bases. But Yolanda, one of Python's many side chicks, is still a thorn in her side. Perhaps it's time she exert her real power.

As blood is spilled in the streets, Essence only wants to do what's right. She didn't mean to get so caught up in Profit. Will her allegiance prove to be a mistake?

STREET DIVAS by De'nesha Diamond proves to be just as hard-hitting as its predecessor. Readers are privy to more of the back story which helps put everything in perspective and you can't help wondering will the truth change things. Unfortunately, readers will have to continue to hold on for the next installment. Some issues with editing and very graphic.

Street Divas is "Off the Chang!" It is definitively a must read, but please make sure you read "Huslin Divas" first. If you want to read some real street hood, graphic love making, serious family gangsta rivalry then this is the book to read. De'nesha didn't fall us after reading Huslin Divas and waiting a year for the sequel and I am glad she came correct and strong in her writing. Only thing that has got me is now after reading Street Divas there is a part 3. OMG. . . I don't even know how she is going to make this any rougher than it already is, but with a title like "Gangster Divas" it can only get deeper. There were several loop whole left in this novel, so I can't wait to read the next book to find out what happen, I especially want to know what Melvin was covering up and if he was Mason father. Did Momma Peaches die?

Picking up where Hustlin' Divas left off, Street Divas takes us more in depth as to why a lot of the drama between the Vice Lords & Gangsta Disciples even began.

LeShelle is still on her Queen Bitch status but someone is threatening to take her throne. Tashara is coping with her attack. Essence who was already a Queen G is forced into doing something she doesn't really wanna do and we also meet Lucifer, Fat Ace's ride or die chick. Oh and how I can I forget about Momma Peaches? She still up to no good as well.

Well thoughtout storyline. Each character blended well with the story and left you wanting to know more about them. I can't wait to see how everything will go down in part 3!!!

I read this series a long time ago & just like then I STILL am not down with the gang gang lifestyle. I don't like nothing about snakes, & I didn't like the characters Melanie, Yolanda- who I thought was stupid, for lack of a more respectful word- LeShelle & Python. I liked Mama Peaches, TaShara & Profit and even TaShara's friend Essence. I found myself tolerating Mason & his right hand woman Willow who later became his woman.
I found myself pulling for TaShara & Profit through all the bullsh*t they found themselves involved in due to the neighborhoods & the street codes that they lived by due to the hood life that they grew up in.
Anybody with a good sense of figuring out plot twists and lines during a series could have figured out that Python & Mason were brothers! They shared a similar description that pretty much said as much if readers/listeners were paying attention.
I loved that the narrators were all female! That was a change of pace for the usual. I usually HATE WITH A PASSION Female Narrators reading for MALE characters because they usually DON'T quite get the vocal tones accurately (Cough, Cough.... Honey Jones, Nicole Small, Soozi Cheyenne!)
The only problem that I can say is that some of the narrators sound too OLD/MATURE to be reading for the young characters on the pages.

These Street Divas are nothing to mess with for sure! Most people think of men as the tortuous gang members. Well not according to Memphis. These street divas can teach the men a few things.
As the twists and turns of the plot behind each character unfold, you can’t help but hold the book as if your own life depended on the outcome of these characters. Great Read!!!!! I’m telling everyone that reads or not that THIS series is a MUST read. Looking for to the next book!!!

Lashelle is crazy and dangerous she will do anything to stay on top and keep Python but what she did to her sister was low her time is coming. Lucifer finally got what she wanted Mason. Is Mason Python long lost brother and what will happen to Momma Peaches. Lashelle better watch out cause Tashara is back with vengence. Who will be left standing.

I am really enjoying this series! Sooo much drama that keeps you turning pages! The police chief's daughter is killed by her baby daddy who is also the leader of the Black Gangster Disciples! He killed her cause he caught her in bed with the leader of the Vice Lords! But here is the bait for the next book; could these two be brothers?!!! You gotta read this book!!! I'm on to the next one!!!

It's chaos everywhere. Leshelle seems to have lost her mind & is on a rampage. Yolanda is trying her hardest to get somebody to take care of her & she thinks sex is the way to do it. The police captain being dirty wasn't a shocker but the other part of his story definitely was.
It's so much going on I haven't even touched the plot of this story. Good job.

I enjoyed the audiobook read with the narrators. How is Leshelle getting away with murder and rape inflicted on family member?

I read gangsta divas before this, and see how some parts line up.

This is a good book. I enjoyed it more than the first one. Poor Yolanda. She worried about the wrong things and realized it too late. I understand why we need to know Momma Peaches story but I could have lived without it. Read this series in order.
