There seems to be some confusion in the Goodreads system about this title. This particular book should not be confused with the second "phonebook" volume, HIGH SOCIETY. Rather, this is SWORDS OF CEREBUS, a reprint collection issued by Aardvark-Vanaheim prior to the development of the phonebook format. Each SWORDS volume reprinted issues from the early run of CEREBUS, most of them now contained in the first phonebook volume, also titled CEREBUS. Volume 2 of SWORDS contains issues five through eight, which feature the first appearances of Bran Mac Mufin and Jaka, and the return of an early favorite character, Elrod the Albino. What makes these volumes equally interesting are the apperances of side stories in Cerebus, sometimes by artists other than Sim, all accompanied by anecdotes and essays by Sim. This volume is fantastic for serious Cerebus fans, but is hardly essential in place of the phonebooks.

Cerberus got off to a primitive start as a Conan the Barbarian satire before involving into the sophisticated socio-political satire of its later years.
