I just thought this book was okay. I think it would be a good one to read to children because it's a good way to teach them about the animals in the book, but it just wasn't my cup of tea because it was so informational. I know that it is important to read books like this to kids though because they teach them important information, and it also exposes them to different types of books. And there will be kids who actually prefer this kind of book to a traditional story book, so it's important to ...more

Recommends it for: Kids that like creepy crawlies
Shelves: children-s-books
This book will tell you more than you ever knew you wanted to know about these amphibians. The kids thought it was appropriatly "gross" and there is even two seperate story lines in the book. You can read it as a bed time story or you can take the time to learn lots of stuff about each animal they have in the book, encyclopedia style.

This book is definitely not for struggling readers. This's text can look complicated and intimidating to a struggling reader. It does provides names for the different parts of toads, frogs, lizards, and salamanders. I would have students to verbally tell similarities and differences in each. Students may also enjoy painting the frogs, toads, lizards, and salamanders.

Recommends it for: toddler through early elementary
Shelves: younger-kids
This is a neat book because it is appropriate for toddlers as well as early elementary school kids. On one side there is a funny illustration and a little rhyme, on the other side there is an in depth illustration of the animal with information about it. In the back, maps of the U.S. show where each animal lives.

I thought this book was very detailed in its facts about frogs, toads, lizards, and salamanders. It had labeled picture of these animal's boby parts and also gave numerous characteristics. It would be a wonderful book for students to read independently or with a partner.

What a great find! This book combines elements of both picture books and field guides to provide children with exposure to how a mature reader may use multiple sources conjointly in real life. Well done!

This book might be interesting to kids, but it didn't hold my attention. Would be great for doing research, but not much else. Was stuffed to the brim with information.
