What a great book! My favorite part is he adds humor into it. Which gives you the freedom to disagree with him at times. I did several of the exercises he gives and I highly recommend it. I was surprised by how modern the lexicon of this book was, even though it was written in 95. This is one of those books that’s nice to have on hand.

This is a great book for reading straight through, and for picking up from time to time for a jolt of inspiration. It's not as sappy as the promo line suggests. I enjoyed the frequent quotations, for noting the breadth and depth of love, its permutations across time, place and between people of differing relationship. Here's a few of my favorites:

"I am two fools, I know,
For loving, and for saying so
In whining poetry." John Donne 1572-1631

"God made everything out of nothing, but the nothingness shows through" Paul Valery

"Love ain't nothing but sex misspelled." Harlan Ellis

Do you love yourself?

When posed this question, I really had to stop and think about it. The question, that is, not the answer. I had to, because the concept of "loving oneself" had never occurred to me before.

Thankfully, this book is full of good practical advice on loving oneself, and also why exactly that's a good idea (hint: it makes life way more fun).

This book isn't just for people who are lonely. It's for everyone, because we could all do with a bit extra self love.

Delightful pulp self-help book, easy to read and inspiring to apply. It might seem light and fluffy, but in fact its humour pierces into very important aspects of coming into selfhood, without sounding too paternal or academic. Relationship with self, assessment of natural proclivities, social transactions and contracts. It was my bible in adolescent years and a book I recommend to friends who struggle with that ever evolving sense of self.
