This is an immensely useful book for anyone who will have to go through job interviews. It gives clear and concise information, not only telling you how to answer questions but the purpose of the questions from the interviewer’s perspective. It goes right from when you are offered an interview to if you have been turned down for a job, and covers not only questions during the interview but such practical matters like what clothes to wear, what to do right after the interview and brief discussion about negotiation discussions.
This is a book that one should be read over and over again, both for interviewers and interviewees.
Yes it bloody well came to this, I ended up reading this and I'm not happy about it.
I've been reading this book in tandem with The War Poems, and I would recommend reading some similarly stiff poetry whilst reading this. It also made me feel like I could really identify how those poor soldiers felt down in the trenches in the first world war, them seeing their friends get brutally blown to bits, and me having to face up to the reality of preparing for an interview.
I did find a whole bunch of stuff in this useful, but that is largely because I'm a total idiot: I of course know that I need to leave loads of time to travel to the interview, but on the day I have a bit of a tendency to say to myself 'meh, it'll be alright'; reading this gave me impartial confirmation of common sense which seems to have helped me jump on board. There is a whole bunch of stuff in here that is helpful in breaking down the ways in which you can prepare for an interview, and also some just general things that you may have overlooked. It's really easy to read despite the fact it is dull as dishwater, so it's kind of worth it. I had a bit of look at Brilliant Answers to Tough Interview Questions and it seemed like this may be more useful. It has some basic general information, but most importantly there is a really long list of practice questions at the back. I tried to find a list of questions online but found it really surprisingly hard to find anything useful.
This is the third edition of a book of a book originally published in 2002 (this edition first published in 2011), and although it has been revised twice there seems to be some unfortunately erroneous/outdated information still loitering around in parts of this book. In particular the suggestion to meet the interview question 'What is your biggest weakness?' with the answer 'Double choc-chip ice-cream' strikes me as a sure fire way of making sure you don't get the job.
Overall I'm glad I read it, because it gave me a bit more of an idea of how these pathetic toad like people think. It's an awful, horrible and unfair world, and this book will constantly remind you of that, but if you're unemployed the chances are you are reminded of that every time you look in the mirror, so you may as well read this dirge to give you the opportunity at beating the idiots at their own game.
Brilliant and concise book about interview techniques in the UK market. I also enjoyed the nice and easy layout of the book which gives it more of a brochure look rather than a long boring factual book steeped in job psychology.
really useful book with sample documents and templates for interview preparation including tips for following up. provided great tips while preparing for an upcoming interview.
Did not enjoy this at all. The points were very generic things that could easily be accessed on the internet and did not need to be turned into a book at all.
