Found this book at a vintage sale and had to have it for little me. It was definitely interesting to see how different this picture book published in 1993 is from current picture books. The paragraphs are much longer. But this was such a fun trip down memory lane from the dreamy artwork to the familiar, biggest purple dinosaur.

While I grew up making fun of Barney, I don’t think I actually watched it with my younger siblings. Since he’s a dinosaur, Maddie likes him and the story was surprisingly good.

It's good for kids. I thought it’s weird to leave the farm life for city life, but hey it's a kids book.

This imaginative story is about a young girl who lived on a farm and had to move to the city. She has a stuffed dinosaur, Barney, who comes to life to help her make the transition to her new surroundings. The writer uses words that move along fast and appropriate to keep a young child’s attention. The illustrations take into account the little girl’s memories of where she used to live and show her facial expressions clearly in line with what is happening in the story. This helps it be believable for the young child reading along and listening to the story. The appropriate age group to read this book would be Preschool -5 years of age. This book would be appropriate to read aloud during story time and the children could interact with it to help keep their attention. It is a Barney Collectors’ Edition book.

I thought this book was a great way to teach kids that change is okay. I really enjoyed that. It basically takes you through different imaginations of what her new place will be like. I have always been a big fan of Barney and this book really will teach your kids that change is good and change is okay. The pictures are great as well full of color and great to help build the child's imagination. I recommend this book for anyone who is looking to teach their child about change or just loves barney.
