A fascinating collection of quotes and excerpts of interviews with Jack Kerouac, put together by Michael White and published by the great Hanuman Books. I re-introduced myself to Kerouac's writing by reading the new version of "On The Road," which by the way is truly fantastic. I truly think he was a guy who just had it in spades. Forget the legend baggage and just get sucked in with his words, etc. I even like his paintings, and paintings never lie!
This mini book (it could easily fit in a shirt pocket) interleaves a half dozen interviews with Kerouac. This allows the same subject to be addressed by Kerouac with different shades, different reactions. It is certainly a special treat and an easy one-sitting read for a fan of Mr. Beat himself. Jack discusses his Catholicism and other spirituality (classic Buddhism), Neal Cassady and other heroes, looking back on his writing career, and more.
