When Lyuba was discovered in Siberia, she was the most complete baby mammoth mummy ever found--the pictures of her are pretty freaky, since she looks so complete. After her discovery, scientists in many fields did CAT scans, endoscopic exams, carbon-14 dating, etc., to learn all they could about the baby mammoth and her life and times.

I was drawn to this one by the lifelike pictures of Lyuba, and it's certainly an interesting read full of great pictures, if a few too many disruptive sidebars. Th

“Baby Mammoth Mummy: Frozen in Time” is an excellent book, full of wonderful graphics. I think it would be appreciated by either an adult or child. There is so much you could take from this book. A child would enjoy flipping through the pages and seeing the baby mammoth photos and illustrations; an older child will enjoy the interesting facts about prehistoric animals; an adult will value the scientific discoveries made and the direction the paleontologist are taking them. A baby mammoth, frozen and perfectly preserved was found in Siberia. Together, scientists learned many things from the mummy: what she ate, how she died, when she lived, and a little about what the world was like 40,000 years ago.

Look inside a real mammoth with space age technology and across the ancient mammoth steppes. Starting from the discovery of a perfectly preserved baby woolly mammoth and working backwards to the last ice age, National Geographic does what it does best: opens new worlds with amazing visuals.

Incredible story about Lyuba, a perfectly preserved baby mammoth, discovered on a river sandbar in Siberia. Photographs, charts, and a very understandable text leads the reader from discovery to the various labs where the baby mammoth was studied. Great for budding paleontologists!
