I had an Ilse when I was younger: my cousin was very beautiful, she seemed very self-assured and she was a compulsive liar. We didn't live together, but I adored her, and was so, so happy whenever she would spend time with me. It took me ages to figure out that she was using me and lying to me and I felt so stupid for not realizing it all sooner.

Die Ilse ist weg. Ilse is gone. What a beautiful story. No, not Ilse's but her sister's. Ilse is gone. Vanished. And even while she continues to be absent, her absence mocks her younger sister, who only meant to help her, by sending her away. She feels cheated, lied to. Ilse had issues, that is clear. Her decision to leave her house was her own. But to include her younger sister was unfair. Oh, how can I write about this story...

I generally do not have catharsis. Here, I did. I felt for the sist

the focal point of every chapter was an explosive argument and even though at that time i wasn't a developed reader in german, i've done plenty of reading in english and know the basic concept of a half-decent story (this wasn't one).

Although I could relate to some parts of the book I feel that I could have sympathized more with Ilse had there been some chapters from her pov. I find it hard to understand a certain character's motives and actions when the only information given to you about them is coming from other characters ,I personally like to get to know the characters and know what's going on inside their head especially if the whole story is centered around them. Although maybe the main focus of the story was Erika bu ...more

Historia definitivamente para chicos (as) adolescentes.

I loved this book! This book made me not want to put it down....Ever! So basically this book is about two sisters and the older one ran away because she was so un happy with her life at home. But when she runs away nobody has a clue where she is! IF you enjoy a good mystery book this is definitly for you!

A broken home. A compulsive liar. A sibling who needs answers. I had read this book for school and decided to re-read it. It's entertaining and the imagery is simple yet well-constructed. However, I feel the story sort of loses momentum at the end.

The copy I have is called Ilse Janda, 14. Maybe the title is different in German. The plot seems to be the same as what everyone is describing.
