Enjoyability: 3.5/5 | Usefulness: 4/5 | Overall: 4/5

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The personal anecdotes, timeless experiential knowledge, and practical advice were especially brilliant. The opening chapters and those focused on soft skills, like risk management and leadership, are where the authors, NOLS, and this book truly excel.

While it doesn’t quite match the level of detail or up-to-date insights found in books by top-tier outdoor experts like Skurka, it’s worth reading. It provided me with essential information, useful frameworks, and detailed checklists that I’ll incorporate into my future expeditions.

Overall, I’d highly recommend this book to anyone passionate about expedition travel and outdoor adventure.
