Visto il film circa 15 anni fa, mi era rimasta la curiosità di leggere il libro. Bellissimo e incalzante come il film. Aspettative totalmente appagate.

WHY: Lelia picks up men, drugs them and then robs them. When she does that to a man named Andrea, she unwittingly becomes involved in someone else's grand scheme. On the run, she meets Francesco, a night bus driver, who is buried under gambling debts. Before you know it, they are fleeing the police, the schemers and Francesco's loan shark. The pace is rapid fire and the humor dark. I had trouble keeping track of all the disparate characters and situations. Despite that, I got swept along by the book.

Mi è piaciuto tantissimo...davvero davvero. Avevo visto appena il film uscito al cinema tanti anni fa e mi era piaciuto tanto anche il film, ma tra una cosa e un'altra, anni passati, etc etc, avevo rimosso buona parte della trama del film. Di recente mi è capitata l'occasione di leggerlo ed eccomi qui...finito, letto quasi tutto d'un fiato (se non ci fossero le mille interruzioni obbligate quotidiane).
Tornando al libro...Rigosi, primo libro che leggo scritto da questo mio concittadino e direi che non sarà di certo l'ultimo, scrittura fresca, descrizioni molto realistiche e per niente didascaliche, personaggi e cui varrebbe quasi la pena di scrivere un libretto per ciascuno. Una combo perfetta direi...ergo 5 stelle.
Il genere è il thriller, la narrativa è un thriller, il titolo è un thriller...chi più di questo libro allora non può che essere un thriller. Non gli manca assolutamente niente e il tocco in più è la narrativa e l'intreccio tra i vari personaggi orchestrata eccezionalmente dall'autore e che permette al lettore di vivere quasi realisticamente e in tempo reale tutta la vicenda.
Sui personaggi possiamo a scriverci dei papiri e lo spazio qui è davvero molto limitato, ma vale la pena dire una cosa: sono tutti fantastici, ognuno con le sue caratteristiche e ognuno necessario allo svolgimento della trama e ognuno magistralmente inserito. Non ce n'è uno che scarterei, non ce n'è uno che che mi abbi annoiato o per cui ho pensato "che brutto personaggio". Un gruppetto di persone che si incontrano, si intrecciano, si emozionano all'unisono, si sparano, etc etc...eccellenti.
Non vedo l'ora di rivedere il film, che ha come protagonisti due attori da me molto apprezzati che sono la Mezzogiorno e Mastrandrea...il top sia scritto che girato questo Notturno Bus.

Notturno Bus -il film- è uno di quei rari casi in cui il cinema italiano moderno è riuscito a catturare quell’atmosfera "notturna e piovosa" tipica del noir senza risultare una macchietta.
Sono molto legato a questo film, lo riguardo almeno una volta all'anno ed era parecchio tempo che volevo recuperare il romanzo, soprattutto dopo aver scoperto che Rigosi ha partecipato alla sceneggiatura del film.
Tuttavia, leggere il romanzo di Giampiero Rigosi è un’esperienza diversa, quasi geometrica. Se il film punta molto sul carisma sornione di Valerio Mastandrea (Franz) e sul fascino misterioso di Giovanna Mezzogiorno (Leila), il libro è una macchina narrativa oliata che si muove su binari precisi.
Il punto di forza di Notturno Bus è la sua architettura. Rigosi non scrive capitoli tradizionali, ma costruisce il romanzo per sequenze rapide, quasi cinematografiche, che si incastrano perfettamente.
La narrazione è frammentata. L'autore salta continuamente da un gruppo di personaggi all'altro (i "buoni" per caso, i sicari, i poliziotti corrotti). Questo crea un effetto di simultaneità: mentre Franz guida il bus nel buio di Bologna, i servizi segreti stanno già stringendo il cerchio.
Ogni sequenza aggiunge un tassello. Non c'è spazio per lunghe introspezioni psicologiche descrittive; conosciamo i personaggi attraverso quello che fanno e come reagiscono al caos.
La struttura a sequenze serve a mappare una Bologna che non è quella dei portici turistici, ma una città di snodi, raccordi e depositi di autobus, dove ogni scena è una stazione di posta di una fuga disperata.
I personaggi sono tutti validi. Nel romanzo, figure come Garofano e Diolaiti (i due poliziotti) o i sicari hanno una dignità narrativa che nel film viene sacrificata per esigenze di minutaggio. Nel libro senti il peso del debito di gioco di Franz in modo più asfissiante: non è solo un tratto del personaggio, è una morsa che giustifica ogni sua scelta azzardata.
In conclusione, se il film è una ballata notturna malinconica e affascinante, il libro è un meccanismo a orologeria. Leggere Rigosi dopo aver visto il film non rovina la sorpresa, ma permette di vedere "dietro le quinte" del complotto, capendo meglio come i fili di Leila e Franz si siano intrecciati in quella notte bolognese.

un buon poliziesco dal ritmo incalzante, dovuto principalmente alla struttura corale del romanzo e al continuo cambio di prospettiva da un personaggio all'altro, mi sarei aspettato che Bologna avesse più rilevanza come città/presenza tangibile ma l'ho trovato solo uno sfondo quasi irrilevante, tolto qualche accenno a una via o all'altra. consigliato ma non una lettura essenziale, nonostante abbia assunto lo status di piccolo cult letterario

Czytałam po polsku, ale wybrałam tę opcję, bo nie widziałam nigdzie polskiej opcji językowej. Mimo to nie polecam, wynudziłam się i w zasadzie ani trochę nie poczułam się porwana przez fabułę. Po prostu nie.

It reads like the screenplay of a crime thriller. Quite violent. Set in Bologna and very atmospheric. I even looked up a map of Bologna and followed the route of the bus on Google Earth!

Francesco is a bus driver and gambling addict. Leila is a hustler, picking up men in night clubs and robbing them. Francesco is having big problems with Bear, a debt collector who doesn't have that nickname for no reason. Leila gets more than she bargains for when she finds the key to a locker on a man she's in the process of robbing.
Following that key to the associated locker finds Leila involved in something much bigger than she could have expected. Francesco and Leila find allies in each other as Leila unexpectedly turns up on Francesco's bus late one night and in big trouble over the key, but able to help when Francesco comes face to face with Bear.
There is a lot happening in NIGHT BUS. There are a lot of people coming in and out of the story and there's a lot at stake for all of the players. Right to the end the story is intertwining and twisting around Francesco and Leila and the activities that Leila has accidentally exposed with the theft of the key. The pace really keeps moving and there is a sense of irony and fun in the storytelling that makes this an intriguing book.
There is also a deftness in character portrayal which was a joy. All of the "villains" are different, quirky, human. The heroes are accidental ones. The ones that do something daft in the first place and have to dig like crazy to get themselves out of their own crater.
Ultimately you'd have to call this a caper novel, a real pleasure - thoroughly recommended.

Giampiero Rigosi's Night Bus is about two rootless characters and seedy Bologna. Leila is thirty-ish, pretty, a hunter of men's wallets (she picks up her marks, drugs them and absconds with their money). Francesco is a bus-driver with a gambling addiction. There is a politician who is being blackmailed and who has arranged for payment to be made in return for the incriminating document. There are secret service agents, no better than thugs, who are after the blackmailers so that they can make case against the politician. Another agent, slightly better than a thug, works for the politician, and wants to ensure a smooth transfer with the blackmailers. Leila unknowingly gets her hand on the documents after seducing one of the blackmailers. Meanwhile Francesco is being chased by a giant of a man to repay his gambling debts. The disparate story-lines, written in staccato fashion, serve very well to maintain tension, and do converge in a collection of set-pieces that are both hair-raising and funny. Rigosi has a considerable affection for Quentin Tarantino, I guess, evident both in the action-film-script-like prose and in surreal touches of humour. Good stuff.

A blurb on the front cover from Times Literary Supplement says..."A black comedy in the style of Quentin Tarantino.". I am not too familiar with Tarantino, except by reputation, but I believe the blurb is correct.
This is a fast paced, heist, comedy of errors, shoot-em-up story, with very bad gangsters, very, very bad so-called government agents, corrupt cops and the obligatory "innocent" couple. Oh, I almost forgot the corrupt Minister of Something, high up in the Italian government that is being blackmailed. Said couple meet in the most bizarre manner, and are far from innocent. They do seem quite tame in contrast with all the other characters involved though.
The book is translated from the original Italian.

Onestissima avventura Forza italiani! A un quarto del prezzo dei tomi da spiaggia, delle frattaglie, dei complotti, dei serialyawner, delle lotte fra studi legali che speri solo uno di questi giorni si annichiliscano fra loro, una scoppiettante avventura con trucibaldi ma anche assai cialtroni personaggi almeno in bassorilievo. Ce ne fossero!

Divertente, angosciante (in senso buono) anche alle volte, in questa corsa permanente, ma forse il thriller non è il mio genere. Congegnato in modo impeccabile, va detto. E gran bei personaggi
