I absolutely love the illustrations, and enjoyed following this duo through France on their latest adventures. Bo is so cute and ladylike and brave, I adore her. I loved that she got to reunite with Tubs, and make some new friends, and battle a peacock and foil a kidnapping. So cute.
I read this with my 6 yo who wanted to study France... full disclosure: my 6 yo Loved it very much and actually learned a lot about France from this book; he especially loved the maps that depicted Bo’s journey and very readily volunteered multiple narrations about where Bo travelled and what happened. He found the book very engaging and was always excited to read it; I had a harder time with it... nothing wrong or objectionable, just not a very interesting story at all.
These books are amazing! My mom and I love them so much! They're about a cat named Little Bo and her adventures around the world. The illustrations are so adorable and make the books even more fun to read! If you love traveling, cats or just want a cute series to read, these are for you! They make great read-alouds and are something that the whole family can enjoy. Follow @bronteandwilder on Instagram for more fun book recommendations!
Bo sure gets herself into a lot of predicaments! Along the way, she gets to see a lot of France and find some of her family. This book was very enjoyable and had a good mix of action and pictures to keep various ages interested.
An unexpected series found partially in the Topeka library and fortunately the other part was found in my local library of Lawrence so it was just basically a waiting game to get the books that I hadn't been able to pick-up on my first library trip.
The Little Bo series explores the world of one little kitten after she is born, given a name and released into the world to find a human of her own choosing while escaping several mishaps on her way to happiness. And although she may be the smallest her father gave her a good strong name to remind her to always be brave and strong.
These stories each are really quick reads while also working as indirect although not really detailed travelogues for young readers as they follow Bo along her wanders to some of the biggest cities of Europe. Each book focuses on one aspect of her trip and also allows the reader to re-discover along with the kitty protagonist the fate of each of her siblings after having been separated from them so dramatically with Little Bo in Italy: The Continued Adventures of Bonnie Boadicea being probably the one that is the most sad.
Each book is illustrated with brightly colored illustrations that captures Bo's ever-increasing world in details and beautiful landscapes. The books are almost worth the reading just for these insights alone. And although some of the kitty characters have some weird angles at times the majority of them are quite realistic otherwise.
This is most definitely one series that was written for children who enjoy travel and adventure stories, especially with strong kitty-cat characters.
That charming violet-eyed sweetie returns, this time on a whirlwind tour of Paris, the City of Lights. Bo remains as nimbly footed as ever. She may be shy sometimes (she doesn’t let just anyone pet her, you know) but she is as capable of courage as her namesake, Queen Boadicea.
The illustrations accompanying this story are even more charming than the first, taking us with Bo as she sees Paris from a cat’s-eye view. At times, the pictures have an Impressionistic quality, with brushes of color for flowers and dots for electric lights…not surprising, as the Impressionist movement had its heyday here. The endpapers are equally captivating, a mini-travelogue featuring Little Bo’s route across Europe by road, rail and water. For a little cat, she certainly gets around, with or without her human.
Her connection with the sweet and persevering Billy remains as strong as ever. But we see that Bo has other needs and the story sees that they are well met. Bravo for Billy and brava for Little Bo.
Little Bo in France by Julie Andrews Edwards is the sequel to Little Bo. There is also Little Bo in Italy (review coming).
Bonnie Boadicea and her sailor friend, Billy Bates go to France to look for work. Billy wants to find a ship that hiring crew. He's down to his last few pounds and he's heard there might be work here.
While Billy is having adventures in Paris and later in the South of France, Bo is having her own parallel experiences. She has a run in with a dog, meets a long lost sibling, and is befriended by a sea faring ginger tom.
Billy and Bo's adventures through France give children a chance to learn about the geography of the country, it's language as well as life on board.
I've read all three books, but Little Bo in France is definitely my favorite.
Little Bonnie Boadicea (Bo for short) and her gentle owner, sailor Billy Bates, head to France. As with the first book, both Billy and his gray kitty Bo meet new friends and get in minor scrapes. The illustrations are pretty and there was one in particular, showing Paris at night, with the Seine and the city both twinkling, that made L say "I want to go to Paris." I always love a book that makes the boy want to travel! Fortunately, I have ordered the next books, Bo in Italy and Bo in London, so I can fan those travel-bug flames!
I was in a waiting area that had this cute book and decided to see about Julie Andrews Edwards as a writer. It was a sweet story about a cat who travels to France with her friend Billy who is searching for a job.
Nice continuation of the Little Bo story. My girls all enjoyed it, and it has some nice touches of French geography and culture. I'm not sure it would be complete as a stand alone book, though, and definitely leads into the book that follows.
Little Bo (a cat) takes a journey to France with her owner, Billy. They have adventures from Paris to the Riviera before finally landing a job for Billy.
Loved reading this book with my kids...a great way to introduce some French culture and color while following the adventures of a little cat in France.Fun!
