Rumiko Takahashi is one of the wealthiest women in Japan. The manga she creates (and its anime adaptations) are very popular in the United States and Europe where they have been released as both manga and anime in English translation. Her works are relatively famous worldwide, and many of her series were some of the forerunners of early English language manga to be released in the nineties. Takahashi is also the best selling female comics artist in history; well over 100 million copies of her various works have been sold.
Though she was said to occasionally doodle in the margins of her papers while attending Niigata Chūō High School, Takahashi's interest in manga did not come until later. During her college years, she enrolled in Gekiga Sonjuku, a manga school founded by Kazuo Koike, mangaka of Crying Freeman and Lone Wolf and Cub. Under his guidance Rumiko Takahashi began to publish her first doujinshi creations in 1975, such as Bye-Bye Road and Star of Futile Dust. Kozue Koike often urged his students to create well-thought out, interesting characters, and this influence would greatly impact Rumiko Takahashi's works throughout her career.
Career and major works:
Takahashi's professional career began in 1978. Her first published story was Those Selfish Aliens, a comedic science fiction story. During the same year, she published Time Warp Trouble, Shake Your Buddha, and the Golden Gods of Poverty in Shōnen Sunday, which would remain the home to most of her major works for the next twenty years. Later that year, Rumiko attempted her first full-length series, Urusei Yatsura. Though it had a rocky start due to publishing difficulties, Urusei Yatsura would become one of the most beloved anime and manga comedies in Japan.
In 1980, Rumiko Takahashi found her niche and began to publish with regularity. At this time she started her second major series, Maison Ikkoku, in Big Comic Spirits. Written for an older audience, Maison Ikkoku is often considered to be one of the all-time best romance manga. Takahashi managed to work on Maison Ikkoku on and off simultaneously with Urusei Yatsura. She concluded both series in 1987, with Urusei Yatsura ending at 34 volumes, and Maison Ikkoku being 15.
During the 1980s, Takahashi became a prolific writer of short story manga, which is surprising considering the massive lengths of most of her works. Her stories The Laughing Target, Maris the Chojo, and Fire Tripper all were adapted into original video animations (OVAs). In 1984, after the end of Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku, Takahashi took a different approach to storytelling and began the dark, macabre Mermaid Saga. This series of short segments was published sporadically until 1994, with the final story being Mermaid's Mask. Many fans contend that this work remains unfinished by Takahashi, since the final story does not end on a conclusive note.
Another short work left untouched is One-Pound Gospel, which, like Mermaid Saga, was published erratically. The last story to be drawn was published in 2001, however just recently she wrote one final chapter concluding the series

Okaayyyy! So we're still looking for Naraku and Naraku doesn't run out of plans damn 😂 He can be creative, not gonna lie. I thought at first his antics were getting a little repetitive.
Love the character development in this ofc. The Red Tetsusaiga, Sesshomaru "saving" Rin, Inuyasha trying to protect Kohaku still.
There's also the underlying theme about humanity again. Naraku wants to cast out his human self so desperately. But we're (readers + Inugang) starting to see that being human is a different kind of strength, not something to be ashamed of.
And we finally meet the Band of Seven! Some of them at least. Jakotsu is finally here! And omfg I remember being confused if they're a boy or a girl, but I just know I really love the character design 😂 Of course now, I get my answer that he's a "flamboyant gay" (according to Google. Still, my headcanon is they're genderfluid/genderqueer 😆

In this volume of Inuyasha, we’re still following the crew as they try to find the Shikon Jewel shards.
The first scroll or chapter tells of Muso, who was a part of Naraku the central villain to Inuyasha. Naraku cast Muso off because he didn’t need him anymore, he was a “lingering hindrance.” Then they find Shiori, a young part demon. Shiori’s mother has to beg Taigokumaru, Shiori’s grandfather to stop attacking the village! Shiori’s father, his son wouldn’t have wanted it!!! Does he stop? You’ll have to read to find out for yourself!
Rin, my favourite character from the series is taken hostage by Naraku who’s controlling Kohaku, Sango’s brother. Will Sesshomaru and Jaken be able to save her?
The next part has our team helping a group of healers trying to banish an ogre. Inuyasha tries to use his Wind Scar to defeat it, but can’t. There’s a twist to this story that I won’t spoil but it’s good.
The last scroll, The Band of Seven is about a group of mercenaries that we’re killed. Naraku has brought them back to life, however. We follow Jyakotsu and Mukotsu as they try and bring about an end to Inuyasha! Will they succeed? You’ll need to read to find out for yourself!
The thing I love most about Inuyasha is the comedy aspect, which is definitely present in the manga as well as in the anime. I also love how protective Inuyasha is, over Kagome especially.

yes it’s still cyclical with never-ending side missions and new Naraku foes… and yet I’m interested to see this band of seven villains. they seem more ruthless than others.

I always forget about the beheading.
The first volume of this piece really drags as it focuses on this demon girl no one cares about.
Anyway, there's lots of action in this one but little development between the characters besides the standard moments of jealousy.
Also, there's quite a bit of Sesshomaru for those who are fans.

Amazing characters, story, plot, adventures, skills, battles and fights. A must read manga series for nay and all manga lovers everywhere.

It's so interesting because some of these storylines, I remember from the anime and then others are completely new to me. I'm interested in knowing what exactly happened to Naraku and how he was able to make his aura disappear completely. I'm also curious about the Band of Seven and how they are connected to Naraku.
I really want to know if there will ever be a way for Kohaku to live without being under Naraku's control. Seeing him and Rin interact was really cute despite the circumstances. It would be nice if they were friends in the future. I also really like Rin's connection with Sesshomaru and how much he cares for her even though he would never openly say it.

Another great volume! The little monkey demons were super cute, and Koga actually had some interesting plot developments in this volume (compared to before where he was mainly just an annoying foil for Inuyasha and kinda one-note).
I actually forgot all about the 7 Warriors. That was a part of the anime I only caught bits and pieces of, so I’m excited to get the whole story for them! Jyakotsu is giving my gay/queer vibes and I’m digging it.

Such a great volume! We have sarcastic Sesshomaru being a protective Dad! We have the leading conclusion of the first arc where they almost kill Naraku! We got some cute small Inuyasha and Kagome fluff in the background! And best of all, we have the start to my favorite arc of the anime, The Band of Seven. I cannot wait for next volume and all the good episodes it will bring back!

February 23, 2021I really love Shiori, she's a great character for only showing up once. The Monkey God story was a super fun intermission with Inuyasha being tricked and suffering in a funny way while Kagome is smart and figures out the mystery. The Band of Seven arc is introduced so then shit starts to go down after that levity.

I said I would rate any book in this series under 5 since they're all fantastic in thier own way, but this installment is a bit more boring. It's slower. Some plot progress but I feel like it's very much demon, demon, demon fight, more than the other installments. So I suppose not every installment is perfect

I really enjoyed this volume! Good character work and overall I had a good time while reading this. I do find it funny that the character of Jyakotsu was originally supposed to be a woman, but that the author didn't want Inuyasha to kill a woman so she just made the character a gay man??? That is interesting and a little questionable lmao. Sesshomaru, however...he is perfection

Another great volume of one of my favorite manga! I can't recommend this series enough. I have to pick up the next volumes very soon! The art is steadily improving and yet not too different to alarm me. You should pick it up!

Whenever I start feeling a little bored of Naraku (Sesshomaru's appearances in this volume were all about Naraku, too), Takahashi adds a new twist or side story to keep things fresh. The monkey spirits were very cute.

More upgrades on the Tetsusaiga. We finally get to see Koga defeat an ogre without help from either clan or Inuyasha. We also get to see some maturity in both Inuyasha and Sesshomaru.

Finally introducing the Shichinin-tai. I always liked how creepy and nuts Jakotsu is. It's always a good time to read his dialogue and see the group's reactions.
