descartes was so insane that this was kind of fun to read. i particularly liked how he made it clear that there was always an underlying chance of an evil demon controlling him and causing him to have all of these philosophical thoughts

I think his claims are a bit contradictory regarding his method for deduction. He claims to make himself a blank slate and rid all his previous thoughts, yet he returns right back to them. Returning to the start of a paved road doesnt change the destination it leads to.

Definitely one of the most insane philosophers. I mean he genuinely believed it was a possibility an evil demon was controlling him. He does have some points how well they hold up I’m not so sure.

Descartes doubt was foundational for so much of philosophy following his work. Even though I struggle to agree with his arguments for God, his logic following the existence of God is very well laid out.

Just really wish he’d been born later and knew more maths so I actually know what he’s trying to say.
