To a depressed person, the prospect of reading a book or enacting its recommendations can be overwhelming. Author John Preston kept this in mind when he conceived his book. In Lift Your Mood Now, he offers chapters that can be read in five minutes or less, with techniques that are easily implemented. The book is divided into seven parts that cover understanding depression, stabilizing the brain, avoiding negative thinking, combating low self-esteem, managing intense emotions, reducing withdrawal and isolation, and being true to oneself.
John Preston, PsyD, is a board certified psychologist and the author of ten books including Survivors, You Can Beat Depression, Integrative Brief Therapy, and Life is Hard (audio). He is on the faculty of Alliant University and the University of California, Davis, Medical School. He is the recipient of the Mental Health Association's President's Award for contributions to the mental health community. Dr. Preston has lectured widely in North America and abroad. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
This author was recommended by my psychologist. I am surprised that this book isn't more popular. It is excellent. I got my own copy so as to be able to highlight, and I will definitely be keeping it handy for easy reference.
It is practical and easy to read. I really liked that it is also very encouraging and optimistic for the sufferer of depression.
