Tatun ja Patun Suomi oli oivallinen valinta mökkilukemiseksi! 6-vuotiasta esikoista jaksaa jo naurattaa erilaiset Tatun ja Patun kommellukset, kun taas 2-vuotias kuopus kiinnittää huomionsa avain erilaisiin seikkoihin kuvakirjassa.

Tatu ja Patu -kirjat on meidän perheessä olleet luettavana jo aiemmin, mutta vasta nyt saimme luettua kokonaisen kirjan yhden päivän aikana. Kirjoissa on paljon luettavaa, katsottavaa ja eritoten hoksattavaa; niin aikuisille kuin lapsillekin.

In the picture book THIS IS FINLAND, by Aino Havukainen and Sami Toivonen, two youngsters named Tatu and Patu lead us through Finnish life and society like an ethnographic study or an alien race examining the strange way of earthlings. The book humorously describes Finnish peculiarities like the sauna and salmiakki, the evolution of Finnish society over the centuries, the demographics of modern urban Finland, and some famous figures in Finnish history.

An occasional resident of Helsinki, I bought this book as a gift for little nieces and nephews in another country, as I think it is pretty cute and sure to appeal to a range of ages. The one complaint I have is that many of the jokes won't make sense unless one has already lived in Finland for some time. Thus a foreign reader won't realize that the few parodies of Finland are indeed parodies and not an accurate description of the country. Still, it's an enjoyable book.

English version of the book. Claims it is; "Bulging with information for would-be Finns!" The quirky & wonderful illustrations are great. Be sure and spend time savoring all the fun & hidden things in the pictures. The detailed illustrations of the apartment building is especially charming. The section, Back to the Past, pgs. 15-21 gives a very brief illustrated history of Finland from the Middle Ages (1150)- to present time. A simple, fun way to learn about a country that many know little about.

Päivitetty versio vuoden 2007 Finlandia Junior -voittajasta. Tuttuun tapaan loistava kuvitus ja läjäpäin hauskoja oivalluksia, mutta ei ole ihan lempparitatupatuni tämä. Ehkä vähän liikaakin tietoa ängetty yhden kirjan sivuille?

Fun! Educational! Hilarious!

Story: Tatu and Patu explore Finland and if they were exploring a foreign planet. In Mythbusters style, they put on lab coats and goggles and test theories relating to blueberry pie, sauna and mosquitoes, among many others. Factual and fun, this is sure to please fans of all ages.

Language: Kid friendly! Each page contains dialogue explaining facts about Finland (though sometimes one of them gets it wrong and the other corrects!) while the rest of the page is filled with detailed illustrations and vocabulary words and fun cultural tidbits.

Characters: Tatu and Patu are some of children's well known favorites. Their antics and ever smiling faces will have you smiling too and chasing after them as they run to the next pages ahead.

A must have for every Finn, young and old.

Erinomainen kirja Suomesta ja suomalaisesta kulttuurista. Kirjaa on helppo lukea pienissä osissa kuuntelijan iän ja keskittymiskyvyn huomioiden. Osa jutuista meni varmasti kohta 4-vuotiaan hilseen yli, mutta kuvituksesta hän nautti joka tapauksessa. Jotkut osiot nousivat erityisiksi suosikeiksi, esimerkiksi vierailu Virtasilla ja kaikki mökki- ja saunajutut. Tätä kirjaa on varmasti hauska lukea eri ikäisenä, koska siitä avautuu erilaisia juttuja sitä mukaan kun ikä ja ymmärrys karttuu.

Tämä on enemmän tietokirjamainen teos, ei niinkään yksi tarina, joka jatkuisi kirjan läpi. Toisaalta kiva, että voi lukea vain osiakin - osa jutuista uppoaa enemmän ja osa vähemmän. Hyvä kokonaisuus silti.

Tämä oli jäänyt lukematta aiemmin. Jäi meidän listoilla ihan perimmäiseksi tatuista ja patuista (toki silti paremmasta päästä lastenkirjoista). Voisi sopia turistille tai vaikka ulkosuomalaiselle enemmän.

Tämä nyt on tällainen aikuisen arvio. Turhan paljon koheltamista minun makuuni, raavitaan huumoria pieninä paloina sieltä sun täältä. Tietoa toki on, mutta kovin hajanaista.
Veikkaan kuitenkin, että jos lapsi arvioisi, niin tähtiä olisi reilusti enemmän.

Vähän epätasainen kokoelma tatun jA patun havaintoja Suomesta. 8 v kovan luokan fani tykkäsi useimmista, ja ulkosuomalaisena arvosti Suomea käsittelevää kirjaa.
