This was an excellent resource but is now quite dated. The advice still stands but the book recommendations are going to be hard to find.

Parents, if you are going to buy ONE book that explains how children learn in early childhood, and how they learn to read - and what you can do to help all this along - this is the book. It's awesome. :)

Excellent book--almost a 5. This book has great ideas to help your child learn to read. I am tempted to buy this one. I LOVE all the ideas on games you can play, etc.. for each age group.

Between the Lions is a favorite t.v. show at my house. This book is entertaining and helpful. It integrates ideas from the show with things you can do at home.

This book is pretty straight-forward. I did get a few good ideas from it, but a lot of the suggestions are things most parents do with their kids already.

Sadly, this book has become outdated. Though it has sections for parents on literacy concepts, the first page I read referenced VCRs.
