It's such a shame I didn't look up the author before buying this book. Books like this should be banned!
It started off ok with some common sense advice on nutrition and why pregnant women and dads-to-be should avoid consuming alcohol or smoking before and during pregnancy.
I started having doubts about this book when the author started saying that in order to ensure sufficient amount of nutrients a pregnant should eat a varied diet AND take supplements. And a lot of them! This contradicts most of the medical advice I have come across regarding supplements (except for folic acid) during pregnancy.
Things got much scarier when the theme of vaccination was touched. In author's opinion, vaccines are dangerous and should be avoided (!!!). After reading this, I couldn't continue and I think I'll burn this book so that it doesn't get to anyone else's hands.
I was still quite puzzled why the author mentions the importance of taking supplements in every chapter. Is he selling them himself? And guess what - Patrick Holford, author of the book, owns a supplement company! This explained everything to me.
Such a shame that people like him take advantage of women who are genuinely concerned about their nutrition at such an important time in their lives!

Good advice, covered lots of topics. A lot of it is not specific to pregnancy so can apply to everyone. General advice is to eat well, lots of fruit & veg, less sugar, no caffeine or alcohol, avoid toxins/chemicals, take a good multivit and EFAs.
