The New York Times bestselling series, now a hit anime series from FUNimation!Lord Ivanovic is dead. Akira and the members of Beowulf have averted all-out war with the three vampire clans and prevented the Bund€™s nuclear reactor from going critical and raining down radioactive fallout across the entire Kantou region. The costs have been high. Friends have been lost, and the blows keep coming. In response to the repeated assasination attempts on her life, Mina Tepes€™ policies have taken an overly hardline approach, if not erratic and unpredictable. When the truth finally comes out€”that this Mina Tepes is an imposter€”there will be hell to pay.
Trying to remember what the heck was happening is proving troublesome. I'm having a hard time buying that nobody realizes Mina is a fake. It also makes no sense (other than the fan service) that the real Mina, the ruler of the entire vampire face, has to fight with her boobs hanging out when she's big girl Mina. I mean, really? Ugh. Yeah, I know, I am not the target market....
Good to see that Yuki gets some focus and while she is not taking the center stage she is still showing herself to be an intelligent character who is quick to action and almost stops the new villain. There is also great drama and mystery developments as it looks like we are moving a bit away from the criminal mastermind type villains that the Three Lords represented to a villain who acts more like the Joker.
Dance in the Vampire Bund is about the worldwide vampire kingdom. The main characters are Mina Tepes, the queen of the vampires who rules the Vampire Bund, a manmade island in Tokyo harbor and her bodyguard, Akira, a werewolf. In this episode, the queen has been kidnapped and an imposter has been placed in her position. There are vampire wars in Russia and rogue vampires loose in Tokyo. This is one of the better volumes in the series.
Dance in The Vampire Bund is a vampire manga that I happened to catch the short series on Netflix a few years ago. The anime never had an end so I’m hoping to get one by reading the manga. Mina Tepes is the vampire ruler even though she has the body of a 9-year-old girl. Her guardians are the earth clan a pack of werewolves and she’s taken a fancy to one young shifter Akira making him her companion. The Vampire Bund has been created at last offering a safe place to all the vampires they just have to be oathed to Mina the vampire. However, someone is determined that Mina won’t lead and is attempting to have her killed. Thankfully she has Akira by her side even though I think Mina can take just about anyone. She’s also wanting to start sending the vampire children to the school where Akira was attending claiming it was built with the intention of teaching both. However, the students as well as vampires aren’t so thrilled and things run rapid.
In the 10th installment Mina is gone her clone has taken over in her place and no one seems to be the wiser. Well almost no one Yuki has started to notice something is wrong with her friend but when she tries to warn Akira her message is intercepted. Mina has pulled away from everyone she used to be close to sending off the werewolves and Vera to fight a raging overtaking in Russia. The real Mina has managed to escape her captors in New York finding safety with a human girl and her daughter. However she’s really weak and needs to get her strength back if she’s going to take back the bund.
I find Mina an intriguing character even though she’s an ancient vampire trapped she’s in the body of a young girl which makes her seem weaker. I have a feeling she’s a lot more than the girl she appears to be at least so I far and I’m curious to see how she evolves. Not sure how I feel about Akira I’ve got some mixed feelings about him at the moment. I see a potential love match but hopefully Mina will grow up a little physically.
I watched the anime on Netflix but it didn’t really have a ending and that was a few years ago so I’m hoping to see how it will play out. I like the art some of the detailing is well done. The concept is interesting the idea of building a vampire city for them all to live in seems to work protecting the vampires as well as the humans. Mina is an interesting character who’s quickly growing on me with each page. The story is face paced flowing smoothly along. I’m looking forward to seeing how it will all play out at last. I’m quickly finding the series addicting it’s hard to put down the more I read the more I want to know how it’s going to play out next.
This volume of the bund missed the mark with me a little. Of course since it’s neck deep in politics, I wasn’t likely to enjoy it as much as the past but more importantly there were things I just couldn’t buy. It’s also very hard to review without spoiling everything. In fact you might want to look away right now if you’ve not at least read #9.
This opens with the fake Mina in the bund ruling things with an iron fist. In a series of Machiavellian plotting, she’s sent most of the werewolves to Russia to finish off the Russian Royal family for their act against the real Mina. In the meantime, vampires are attacking main land Japan but she seems oddly unfazed by this but yet this doesn’t seem to be a big clue to Akira. Yuki, slightly brain damages as she now is, is the one to see through it which could get her killed. The real Mina fights to escape Rozenmann’s men before he can rape her and have her bear his heir.
In too many ways this was too talky and some of the action made little logical sense. I am just tired, I think, of the ooo we have a hostage, do as we say or we’ll kill them. They’re still going to kill them if you give up. I’m not entirely sure what the fake Mina is (a clone?) but Akira makes a point of saying he’d smell the difference if it was someone other than Mina. Yet he can’t and he should be able to. Not even identical twins are a perfect match. Your environment plays a role. There should have been differences but naturally to even have the imposter story line we had to confuse the werewolves’ noses. Also, the art seemed off, especially Mina (both of them) It felt like the artist was having a bad month or had assistants do it. And I have reached the point where I’m totally tired of Mina being naked. Sigh. I still like this manga but I just wish it was less exploitive.

Overall Rating: 7/10 ... Ending the complete series... WHY YOU DO THIS TO ME?
Ok, so I have wanted to read this series for a long time. I knew what it was about. But I had only read half of the first volume and just danced around it... until now. It was good! It was! Part 1 of DitVB had multiple great arcs, and characters personalities and pasts were explored slowly and at perfect moments, explaining so much of them and the outcome it had today. Of course the fan service is high on this one, mainly on little miss Mina, pre-pubescent body and all. But what can I say. It's normal in a manga!
Now, the Gaiden and other side stories were decent at best, and explored other important characters.
As for Part 2 of DinVB... I wish it never happened. The artwork changed a bit, improved. The story... not so much. The whole bit on how the Vampire Queen line is made didn't suit me. I feel like the author could have done better. In the very end, the story felt rushed for it's battle scenes and then... it cuts off. The author or publisher just ended the series right there and then. One could call it hiatus, but clearly it has been abandoned. And it is a shame. This had potential to explore it deeps the story and characters, and possibly a satisfying ending. But it was flushed down the toilet...
Do I recommend this: Though one. It's good. It's how they left it off. If you're looking for a good fan service read, go for it. Just be prepared for the open door ending...
Not a bad read at all, I rather enjoyed the deception of it all, as well as Mina finally getting her own story that wasn't bombarded with everyone else! That was easily my favourite part of the volume, as well as the bits dealing with Yuki's recovery!

Beautiful artwork. Excessively violent. Dark strangeness. This series of manga books is definitely an acquired taste. I am hooked, but also revolted at times. And yet there is also humor, tenderness, and insight into human nature in these weird wild stories.
