This book was the best horror novel I have ever read. Studied it in detail during my pregnancy, which really helped me write a birth plan and communicate clearly with my doctor. In fact my doctor became intimidated at one point because of the questions I had. He was very supportive of my study however. I cannot say the same about the maternity nurses I had. They were absolutely awful. This book really made me question what maternity nurses really studied in school. Overall I would recommend this book to expecting parents trying to navigate the hospital systems. These systems are sometimes huge and unwelcoming. Why not read a textbook catered to the professionals within this system? My initial goal was to be proficient in the medical terminology being used around me during labor and delivery. This book provided that proficiency while scaring me at moments. Conception, Pregnancy, Labor, delivery and babies are very real. The Bible calls the process a “gift.” Science calls it “reproduction.” Only when evaluating them both did I come to the conclusion that the word “miracle” was applicable.
