This is a story set in Virginia during the Great Depression. It tells of the development of the national park system and an impoverished couple trying to make a life together in spite of the fact that the husband can’t forget his beloved first wife. Add in to the mix a series of seemingly unrelated murders. Plus there is sex in Standing on Stolen Ground that it is sweet, urgent, and passionate.

Ms. Westbrook deftly weaves the plotlines together into one intriguing tale. I find no fault with this

I requested to read this as I am a sucker for historical romances, especially if they are set in the days before electricity. There’s something about having the freedom to do what you want with whatever is at your fingertips that makes me wonder why I wasn’t born in the days of Laura Ingalls Wilder.

If you like a taste of history, a good romance and a mystery, read it. the characters are strong and the story entertaining.
