Linda Dannenberg is a very enthusiastic author. Her enthusiasm for cooking with blueberries is delightful; her enthusiasm for the supposed health benefits of eating blueberries is bothersome. While blueberries are doubtless good for you, regular ingestion of them probably neither cures nor prevents athlete's foot, lumbago nor piles. Her well-illustrated blueberry cookbook spurs the imagination beyond the usual pancakes and quickbreads. I have twice made her blueberry-infused vinegar and turned it into blueberry vinaigrette which is excellent. The recipes span the uses of wild and domestic blueberries (there is a difference) and the uses of the fresh, frozen and dried fruits. Her suggestions of blueberry-beet borscht, blueberry potato salad, blueberry-cured gravlax, blueberry ice cream, and blueberry barbecue sauce (which I tasted at 12 Bones Smokehouse in Ashville, North Carolina) are innovative and inspiring. New ways to use seasonal fruits and vegetables are always welcome; this book offers a lot of them.

I so love blueberries. What a great thing to have them in this world. And this book tells you how to use them in so many ways, baked goods, ice cream, sauces, soups, on meats etc. Quite a nice collection of recipes for a great little berry.
