Featherton Sisters #4

Love Is in the Heir

Rate this book
Fiddlesticks! I am sure the ladies Letitia and Viola Featherton are wrong when it comes to matchmaking. They insist that it has all to do with love. I, Miss Hannah Chillton, believe one has only to bring a couple together and let nature take its true course. To prove my point, I secretly plan to match the ladies themselves. Lud, what a challenge! They are practically in their dotage.

And love certainly does not signify in the match the Featherton sisters are making for me. True, when Lord St. Albans and I first met, he fair took my breath away. But after we accidentally ran him down with our carriage, I became convinced he belongs to that most despicable class of men: rakes. His arrogance is insufferable ... except when he appears so shy and considerate that I almost think St. Albans is two different men. But that cannot be possible. Or can it?

Book Description:

Fiddlesticks! I am sure the ladies Letitia and Viola Featherton are wrong when it comes to matchmaking. They insist that it has all to do with love. I, Miss Hannah Chillton, believe one has only to bring a couple together and let nature take its true course. To prove my point, I secretly plan to match the ladies themselves. Lud, what a challenge! But after we accidentally ran him down with our carriage, I became convinced he belongs to that most despicable class of men: rakes. His arrogance is insufferable ... except when he appears so shy and considerate that I almost think St. Albans is two different men. But that cannot be possible. Or can it?

Thoughts:

Good lord what a mess. Not even a hot mess... just a plain idiotic mess. I couldn't relate to any of the characters... I wanted to haul off an smack Hannah... the two Featherton sisters were cute in an old lady kinda way but it was a mind bleach moment to think about them getting it on. I have nothing against seniors getting it on, I think that those activities would keep them young at heart at least... but let's face it. I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO THINK OF MY GRANDMOTHER GETTING SOME NOOKIE in the middle of a romance book! BLECH!!! Mind Bleach... erase..erase... erase... damn it it's not working!

So yeah, we have Hannah who loves to jump to conclusions. She thinks matchmaking can be reduced to a formula. Basically, any one even a lecher or stalker can pay her and she thinks that she can create a "chance meeting" between the two parties and lickety split, they're in love. But does she think about any consequences to setting up these situations... nope! And I guess the author didn't want to expound into any sort of consequences from mismatched people.

The St. Alban brothers Garnet and Griffin... and yes several times I called Garnet Garret in my head... when I think of Garnet I don't think guy for some reason. But whatever, they are second cousins to the Earl of Devonsfield. He has lost his sons and brother who were supposed to be his heirs and so he finds the twins. But wait... there's a problem!

So the twins must marry and quickly to secure the Earldom. Griffin had a weird first meeting with Hannah on the cliffs in Cornwall and he fell apparently head over heels for the twit. But wait.. the idiot earl convinces them that the world cannot know that there are two of them until the "problem" is solved.

Meanwhile, Garnet gets almost run over by the Featherton's coach (how you don't jump out of the way of moving horses I will never know) .. but whatever, he takes it upon himself to woo Hannah so that his BROTHER can propose to her. Because you know, he doesn't have any faith that his scientific minded brother can manage wooing the girl he's supposed to love and all that.

Yeah... This one was too convoluted to unravel at any given time. It was a series of misunderstandings and idiotic drama that could have been avoided if they had been HONEST. And the whole wrap up at the end where everything gets a neat little bow and happy little ending was just too much. I know I'm cynical but COME ON! I want my time back that I spent reading this one... now I know why it sat on my TBR shelf for so freaking long. It will most likely be the last book I read from Kathryn Caskie... Although to be fair, I don't think she's put out anything in quite some time so I guess it's time to move onto something else!

The Earl of Devonsfield has been left without an heir. Next in line are identical twins, Garnet and Griffin St. Albans. There's one problem with that. It seems that no one is sure which of the twins is the oldest. So the Earl decides that the first twin to marry a respectable woman will inherit the title. Griffin wants to marry Hannah Chilton, but it seems that his rakish brother Garnet has already made the ladies acquaintance. Garnet wants his brother to get the girl, and comes up with his own unique way of helping him. He'll help his brother out by pretending to be Griffin, and win Hannah's heart for his brother. What woman could resist his rakish charm ? But Hannah likes Griffin just the way he is. Surprisingly, she doesn't take to Garnet at all.
The story was quite amusing. The twins plan did not go as smooth as they'd expected. I enjoyed a story where one of the twins wasn't working on some nefarious plan. It was nice to read a story where the hero wasn't so full of himself as well. The story got off to a slow start but I stuck it out and it did pick up after a while.
My thoughts : I enjoyed the book. It was worth the time I spent reading it. Would I read it a second time ? No, it wasn't a keeper for me but I'm sure that it will be for someone else.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in return for an honest opinion.

I really enjoyed the start of this book, but Caskie lost me about mid-way through when the heroine, for very little reason at all, gives it up to the hero and begins a rapid descent into TSTL land. It's like all her common sense resided in her hymen.

You could do so much with the premise of twins, but instead it was... boring. The start was alright but then it made less and less sense on why people just wouldn't speak the truth. And the 'heroine' was just so annoying.

Stared out slow but turned out wonderful! Love is in the Heir is a lovely, sweet romance that is sure to be a hit.

I like the idea of mistaken identity with twins, but it can easily become cliche if not done correctly. However, this book definitely hit the mark and I loved it.

Before I get started, let me describe the situation real quick.
The Earl of Devonsfield is in need of an heir and find out that the twins Griffin and Garnet St. Albans are the last in the line. However, no one knows which one is first born. So, they pretend to be one person and make a deal about how the heir will be determined. And, the shenanigans begin...

Hannah was a solid heroine. On occasion, her stubbornness was frustrating. But, it wasn't I huge problem so I still liked her. Despite her tenacity, when she realized she was wrong, she knew to make amends. She was a strong lead, a clever and determined woman.

Griffin was the hero in the book and I adored him. He was just so perfect. Griffin is the stronger and more down-to-earth of the twins. He never liked the idea of the charade, so those who worry that he is a deceiver, that's not the case. He was very sweet. He was the kind of hero that would throw away a possibly bright future for his love-and you'll see how that happens. It's impossible not to love him.

Garnet was the more sophisticated and worldly of the twins. This man got on my nerves a few times but I still couldn't help but like him. He's a pain to every one of the characters, but he's so charming that I grudgingly liked him. If you decide to read this book, you'll see what I mean.

The plot of the book was the weak spot. The first third of the book was slow. But, after that, things sped up and I got hooked. As soon as the plot picked up, I was kept riveted, anxious to know what happened and how far the deception would go. The ending was utterly perfect. It definitely left me with a smile.

Love is in the Heir is a lovely romance! Romance lovers, you should give this a read.

From Amazon:

"Griffin St. Albans and his identical twin brother, Garnet, both have the chance to become the Earl of Devonsfield's next heir, but no one is exactly certain which twin is the eldest. So the earl decides that whichever twin marries a woman of quality first will become his heir. The only woman scholarly, shy Griffin could imagine marrying is the tart-tongued Hannah Chillton, but when Griffin arrives in Bath, he discovers that his rakish, charming brother, Garnet, has already met Hannah and her two chaperones, Letitia and Viola Featherton. Now as part of his "brilliant scheme" to help his brother, Garnet is pretending to be Griffin, who is about to discover exactly how difficult it is going to be to win Hannah's love."

Ah, yes. Twins. Gotta love twins, eh? This book is so funny, because she really likes Griffin, but really doesn't like Garnet... so the twin's plans backfire a lot... :)

This was a really weak book. It suffered from poor pacing and poor character development. The plot was OK, but was not well developed. The characters were rather silly and one-dimensional. I could barely finish it.

This was my first Kathryn Caskie book. I will try another one in the hopes that it will be better.

I was bored in the beginning, got into in the middle and I felt the ending went on a little long. It is an easy read with not much to it. I liked the main characters Hannah and Griffin. It's a cute book but not exceptional.

I sold the book with no desire to finish reading it. I was about halfway through the book. I am a great fan of Caskie but this one fell short or her usual work.

I didn't love this one. I was angry at characters for lying or covering truths when they felt it was wrong to do so. It of course all worked out in the end.
