5 stars – Contemporary Romance/Romantic Suspense
Taking Chase is the second book in a feel good, love conquers all contemporary romance series about the four hunky Chase Brothers (Kyle, Shane, Marc, and Matt) of small town Petal, Georgia and their loving, doting, spitfire mother Polly and tenderhearted, wise, lawyer father Edward.
Hard, gruff, town sheriff and oldest brother Shane Chase has been guarding his broken heart by casually dating vapid, shallow women ever since catching his fiancée cheating with his best friend. Cassie Gambol is the beautiful new woman in town, having arrived in Petal, Georgia to hide from her abusive ex-husband and start a new life. Perceptive Shane sees immediately that Cassie is concealing something, but he finds himself intensely attracted to her and drawn to Cassie in a way that he’s never felt before. Shane feels fiercely protective of Cassie and respects her strength and vulnerability. Suddenly he’s risking his heart and pulling out all the stops to woo her, earn her trust, and to convince her to take a chance on them, despite her insecurities and fears over entering a relationship with a big, strong, dominant, and overwhelming man like Shane who’s used to calling all the shots. But for a guarded, stubborn woman who has vowed to never be controlled by a man again, there’s bound to be hardship along the way in building a solid relationship with a man like Shane, who’s equally stubborn. Throw in the continuous threat of Cassie’s dangerous, vengeful, psycho ex on top of that, and it’s truly a love heals and conquers all story.
I loved surprisingly sensitive, sweet, dominant alpha hero Shane and his gentle, yet persistent pursuit and protection of Cassie, and their relationship was truly heartfelt. Cassie is a very inspirational and admirable heroine who endured unspeakable acts of abuse, cruelty, and violence and still found the inner strength and courage to overcome, build a new life, and be a loving person. I’ve read all four books in the Chase Brothers series and while I love them all, this was my favorite. It’s a very heartrending, moving story about the power of love and family that will stay with you for a while...and the romance is hot and steamy too! 5 stars!
