"Clear, practical book ... full-color photos help do-it-yourselfers realize their dreams." -- Log Homes Illustrated The best-selling Cabins is back in print, at the same great value of its original price. This authoritative how-to title gives readers all the information they need to build their own cabin, including:
I really liked this book. It explains the principles of building cabins, complete with sketches. Very easy to understand, has sketches of famous cabins, also some color photos. For anyone interested in building anything from a simple summer shelter to a comfortable small home, this would show you the whys & wherefores.
The book is an easy-to-read book for people who are tool and construction oriented. Nothing in this book could be built by one person, but with a few friends and some elbow grease, anything in this book is buildable.
I have been interested in construction for many years. I watched a house being built for our family when I was 12 years old. I have never lost this interest.
This book taught me that my personal ideas about building a "cabin in the woods" are likely to overdesign my house.
So, in the long run, the design would depend on whether you want a permanent house or a weekend and summer vacation place to escape to.
Reread from my childhood, when I was obsessed with living alone in the woods. A guide to building (and furnishing!) your own cabin by hand. Plans in a variety of styles, schematics, and simple building from foundation to roof. A good start!
This is a great book that tells the details of building a cabin. It describes the different types of cabins, then tells in dteail who to pick a site, build the foundation, build log walls, doors, windows, a roof, and all the accessories. It made me excited to try and build my own log cabin, but there is a caveat that a log cabin canrequire sixty logs, and it may take up to five hourd to get one log in place.
