Plagued by nightmares. Stalked by kidnappers. Tamra McMillan needs a safe haven. When tattooed bad-ass Kyle Rossini steps into her life, the last thing she expects to find is a sanctuary from her demons or steaming hot sex. In fact, everything about him screams danger. But appearances can be deceiving. The tender possessiveness of his touch, the hunger in his eyes, the scorching sensuality of his kiss—all of it sears him into her soul and brands her as his for life. But otherworldly forces are afoot and death hovers… Etruscan werewolf Kyle is a loner. The king’s assassin with a killer’s instincts. The last thing he needs is a mate who could be placed in danger because of him. Until he meets the one woman who needs him more than he needs his solitude. When Tamra, battered but not broken, stumbles into his world and tumbles into his bed, she captures his heart. And nothing—not kidnappers or visions of his possible death—will keep him from her.

I honestly can’t believe I paid actual money for this. Even in the category of paranormal romance, which, let’s be honest, doesn’t set a bar too high, this reached an unprecedented level of low.
It really destroys the main (and pretty much only) rule of romance novels – there has to be tension between the characters. We also have to get to know them first before they fall in love, so that we can believe it. The hero and heroine fall in love with each other right away, there is no suspense, no explanation, no build-up and we just have to take the narrator’s word for it.

“No, this was a woman’s wet dream. Masculine and confident. Experienced. Shaggy black hair fell almost to his broad shoulders, the bangs brushing his perfectly straight nose and gorgeous, high cheekbones before he shoved them back. His square jaw had a covering of black stubble and his eyes were narrowed against the sun. She couldn’t see what color they were.”

She fell for him even before she learnt the colour of his eyes! Crazy! Everybody knows that in romance novels the most important characteristic of a person is their eye colour. The author remembers that, and won’t let us forget either. So in the first few pages we learn that Kyle’s eyes are the colour of topaz, his daughter Cat has aquamarine eyes and Tamra, the heroine has ice blue eyes (which sounds silly when you read it out loud).

“Kyle Rossini pulled his head out from under the hood of the ’68 Cougar and caught his daughter’s bright aquamarine gaze.”
“Cat rested her chin on a knee and stared at Tam with those beautiful aquamarine eyes.”
“[…]down to the aquamarine eyes brimming with compassion.”
“He was a beautiful animal, his black fur sleek and shiny, his eyes a bright topaz.”
“The dog cocked his head to the right and continued to stare at her, his beautiful topaz gaze never leaving hers.” – Kyle happens to be a werewolf, so sometimes he appears as a dog/wolf but his eyes are always bright topaz.
“Tam looked up, and up, at Kyle, and got caught in his topaz gaze.”
“Kyle walked out, those topaz eyes glowing.”
“Immediately, the sense of doom weighing on her lightened, just a little, as those topaz eyes bored into hers.”
“She wanted to ask what they meant but when her gaze met his, she got lost in that glittering topaz gaze, though his expression was set in stone.”
“Kyle stepped into her field of vision, those gorgeous topaz eyes laser-sharp on hers.”
“[…]running her fingers through her hair before she caught Kyle’s topaz gaze and frowned.”
“Kyle standing in the doorway, staring at her with those beautiful topaz eyes.”
“Her features were all contradictions—sharp cheekbones and a button nose, full mouth and up-tilted ice-blue eyes.”
“Now those pale blue eyes caught and held his.” – sometimes they were just ‘pale’
“Her ice-blue eyes warmed and her lips curved into a small smile.”
“Her ice-blue eyes burned and that heat called up his own.”
“Those ice-blue eyes proved his undoing. So straightforward, so blue with desire.”

I am normally willing to let bad writing slide in romance novels but the author did take it to another level. When she wasn’t writing about “those eyes”, she would abuse us with some truly horrible similes:

“Because he’d be damned if he hadn’t fallen for this little eteri. Hard and fast and at first sight. Like a fucking teenager with raging hormones. It felt like a kick in the ass. Like a punch to the gut and a shot in the heart.”
“[…] she shook her head at the sense of loneliness that hit like a brick in the chest.” – which is a feeling familiar to everyone especially people working at construction sites when you’re often get bricks thrown at you.
“With lust still burning in her veins like lava, she had to agree.” – the author really liked that one, because mere fourteen pages later, here it is again:
“Rage flowed like lava through his veins.”

And there was some general bad writing taken from a fourteen-year-old diary:

“No, he made her hot. She wanted him. Which was just so freaking amazing.”

Whenever a character turned into a dog/wolf thing, they would mostly just ‘cock their heads’ side to side. The author must’ve not even reread what she’s written because there were other repetitions like this:
“And he was big, at least a hundred pounds.” And seven pages later:
“He was big for a wolf, almost a hundred pounds in this form.”

That’s just bloody disrespectful. I paid a full price for this, and the author hasn’t even done any basic editing of it.

First the heroine knew the hero wanted her, here on page 37
“Didn’t he want to be left alone with her? She knew that was so far from the truth the second he caught and held her gaze. He tried to hide it. He really did but he couldn’t completely submerge the heat in his eyes.”

But on page 40 she already forgets:
“Besides the few smiles he’d given her, she had no idea how he felt about her.”

I guess, this was some very unsuccessful attempt at creating tension and uncertainty between the characters. But the romance is bland beyond salvation, so when it comes to badly written sex scenes we can only laugh:
“[…]she’d never given a man a blowjob before either. She didn’t want to do anything wrong. As if he’d read her mind, Kyle’s voice rasped out a harsh plea. “Will you suck me, baby? Please. I want your mouth on me.””
““Gods, Tam, you are so damn tight.” Her pussy tightened around him even further. “And you’re so hard. Kyle, please.””

I read the best bits to my boyfriend and let me tell you, it almost permanently ruined sex for us (mostly my fault because I like to quote).

Though it has to be said, the characters are very responsible and Kyle puts a condom on before every act (and there is a legion), which is duly noted by the narrator. Other than that, Kyle comes across as rather daft.

“He kissed her. He just didn’t expect to lose himself in the sensation of her lips against his.”

And that's when they've had sex a billion times already! Yet, he still didn't know. Anytime he comes close to her the whole plot has to be suspended so they can get it on, yet at page 104 it still comes a surprise to the main character.

And here we come to the best part – the cursing! As Kyle is a hard-ass Etruscan werewolf he curses a lot. As Etruscans are originally from what’s today Italy, it fits that character should swear in Italian. Alas, the author only knows one Italian curse – vaffanculo – which is Italian for ‘go take it up your ass.’

“Vaffanculo. That was the last thing in the world he wanted.”
“Vaffanculo, what if this woman had been sent to find him?”
“Vaffanculo, he was almost forty.”
“Vaffanculo, he was a clueless bastard.”
“Vaffanculo, she was going to kill him.”
“Vaffanculo, he couldn’t decide whether he hoped Tivr and Nortia didn’t keep Cat out too long or if they kept her out all night.”
“Vaffanculo, she was going to give him a heart attack.”
“Vaffanculo. That’s scary.”
“Vaffanculo, she wasn’t wearing underwear.”
“Vaffanculo, he needed to get a grip.”
“Vaffanculo. That’s not… Shit, just forget I said that.”
“Vaffanculo. In his head, he heard mocking laughter and silently told himself to shut the fuck up.”
“Vaffanculo, have you finally lost your mind, old man?”
“This isn’t my call. Vaffanculo, Kyle.”
“Vaffanculo, he’d take it back if she’d just stop crying.”

To spice things up a little the author invented another swear-word: “Tinia’s teat”,God knows what this means, maybe something in Etruscan.

“Tinia’s teat, why did he feel as if he’d just agreed to surrender to the enemy?”
“Tinia’s teat, anything would be better than fucking Lassie.” – yes, no one would want to fuck Lassie, except for Snoopy. Snoopy might want to fuck Lassie.
“Tinia's teat, he looked like a hard-ass biker with the tattooed runes on his left arm and the muscles bulging.”
“Tinia’s teat, babe. You’re so fucking beautiful.”
“Tinia’s teat, she’d lost weight.”

I want my money back.

Kiss of Moonlight appears to be the start of a new series of beautiful magical beings, mythical gods and shape shifters with their own rules and foreign terms. Fortunately, there is a helpful glossary up front full of foreign words and their definitions. Unfortunately it was missing the hero’s favorite oath: Vaffanculo. He says it often and I was never quite sure if it meant “fuck”, “bollocks” or “banana-pants”. I went with the banana-pants*, wouldn’t you?

“Vaffanculo, he was almost forty “

“Vaffanculo, he was a clueless bastard.”

“Vaffanculo, she wasn’t wearing underwear.”

Shifter Kyle has managed to make it late into his 30’s without falling prey to love and giving up his freedom to a woman. He came close once and still shares a tight bond with his ex-lover and her husband Dan who together all share their teenage daughter Cat. Cat adores her two dads but worries about Kyle being lonesome and nudges him, none too gently, to find a mate.

When Cat discovers a beautiful, young woman has moved into a house just outside their borders she shifts into puppy form and befriends the emotionally and physically wounded woman and later pleads with Kyle to check in on her. Cat knows exactly what she’s doing even if love-shy Kyle hasn’t a clue. Kyle shifts, checks out the scene and is entranced by Tamra’s beauty and honesty as she confides in him her darkest secrets, thinking he’s nothing but a harmless dog. It’s love at first sight for Kyle who will now do everything in his power to keep Tamra safe.

The characterization at the start of this story reeled me in. Cat is adorable, funny and knows exactly how to work Kyle to get exactly what she wants. Kyle is an assassin for his King but is portrayed as an open, caring, masculine guy secure in his skin and funny and kind in his thoughts. After his bossy daughter has forced him to do something he doesn’t get angry, he just does want what she wants knowing he’s whipped.

“Yep, someone should just take his balls and hang ‘em in a closet somewhere.”

Tamra has suffered horribly and is recovering from a vicious kidnapping and rape that left her hurt but didn’t break her spirit. She’s a survivor and her sexual feelings towards Kyle, feelings she wasn’t sure she’d be able to experience again, empower her and she revels in them becoming the aggressor when Kyle tries to do the right thing by keeping his hands off her. This all worked well and the sexual heat between the two was off the charts. Their age difference of 15 years and the fact that Kyle has some secrets adds enough conflict to their romance and was enough for me but then the author switches gears and this is where the book starts to falter. She sets up what I believe is going to be an ongoing suspense thread in future books and didn’t answer some very important questions when this book ended. Tamra also pulls a to-stupid-to-live stunt that served no purpose but to annoy and frustrate both me and poor Kyle. Vaffanculo!

Overall I give this one a three. The romance and characterization was great but the non-resolution of the suspense threads took away some of the fun. I’ll be interested to see these people again and, hopefully, get some closure in future installments!

When the author contacted me to review Kiss of Moonlight, my first thought was gimme. I’ve been a fan of Ellora’s Cave publishing for years and when I saw this book was about shifters, a little ecstasy murmur slipped out.

We first meet Kyle, a solemn werewolf, who happens to have an adorable teenage daughter named Cat. Cat in her werewolf form befriends lonely Tamara, her neighbor from a few doors down and empathizes with her need to connect with someone after a traumatic event. Tamara needs a place to escape. Beaten and running scared, she poors her heart and soul to what she thinks is an adorable stray dog.

This girl with her scarred heart, her abused body and mind and her total ignorance of the world he lived in was his. He didn’t have a rational explanation for how he knew it. He just did. And it wasn’t just lust. Lust he could control…

Move over Twilight, these Estruscan wolves have got some serious game. With Kiss of Moonlight the author creates a unique and rich shifter world in just under 150 pages. That’s skill right there! As with some Ellora’s Cave publications you might get all sex and no story (oh the humanity) and this was a nice blending of the two. I liked that Kyle was a bit older than Tamara and enjoyed the tension that brought to both characters. This must be due to what I like to call the George Clooney effect. Code name: Silver fox.

It is a bit tricky to display a character’s vulnerability without having them seem weak or needy. As Kyle plays the role as her ‘rescuer’, the author had a good blend of alpha-heroism without seeming to completely take over and help the ‘little woman out’. It is a strong pet peeve of mine when authors write flaccid heroines that can do nothing but wait with bated breath for a man to come and take care of them. A tried a true method for historical romances but is disjointed in modern and contemporary pieces. I felt this was a nice change of pace from the formulaic erotica pieces and offered a lighter erotic romance for those looking to escape the heat for a bit. I’m already tagging this series on my Ellora’s Cave hot sheet as I can’t wait to read about Cat’s story!

I found this to be a pleasurable read filled with steamy scenes and look forward to the 2nd book in the series. I hear it’s a ménage. Yes please!

Tamra McMillian has been hopping from place to place trying to forget the memories of a traumatic event that happened six months before, seeking out solitude and having little luck fighting the nightmares that continue to plague her.

At his daughter's pleading, Lucani Kyle Rossini seeks out his new neighbor, what he finds is a broken soul who happens to be his mate. Kyle has been the Assassin for the King for so long, he never planned on finding his mate. Normally feared by most, Kyle wants to comfort Tamra, but when a failed kidnapping puts Tamra in danger, Kyle plans to keep her safe one way or another.

I thought this was a wonderful story, a ton of rich history of the Lucani which adds a different flair to the shifter stories. I was completely intrigued with by both Kyle and Tamra, a memorable couple. Can't wait to read more.

The Lucani Lovers is a six-book steamy paranormal romance series that was re-edited and, in some cases, rewritten, and republished in February 2016.

Six months ago, wolf shifter Kyle Rossini almost died on a secret assignment for the Lucani King. His daughter, Cat, and best friends, Margie and Dan, are worried that Kyle is immersed too deeply into his warrior duties, hoping he’ll find a way to be happy. Cat tells him about the lonely human who is living near by, one that Cat has befriended in her wolf form.

Tamra McMillan is eteri, human, and living on land near the lucani. Eight months ago she was attacked and raped, which left emotional, mental, and physical scars. On the move and alone, she enjoys the company of the large “dog” who has been visiting her the past few days. But when she meets Kyle, she decides it’s time to rejoin humanity again.

The chemistry between Tam and Kyle develops quickly. I appreciate that Tam’s horrific past isn’t swept under the rug, and although she’s able to climb out of her hole and shed her fears quickly, Ms. Julian allows Tam to experience the change from her abused self to one of confidence and able to take on a dangerous lover. The pair scorch the pages with their insatiable lust and need to be with one another.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Tam and Kyle’s story. It’s a shifter PNR through and through, complete with mating and near insta-love. But the strong storytelling and unique mythology override any issues I had, causing me to sink deeper into the tale. I look forward to learning more about the Etruscan gods, witches, and shifters of Ms. Julian’s Lucani Lovers world.

Wow. This was...pretty terrible and forgettable.

In someways, that IS the author's fault...and in a few] small ways, it is my fault.

To get it out of the way, let's start why it could be my fault that I disliked this so much: I read the follow-up series years ago. So, this book was published in 2009. I read the follow-up series, Forgotten Goddesses, in 2016 or thereabouts. By the time Julian started on Forgotten Goddesses, she'd gotten a handle on this universe and expanded it. Not so much for Kiss of Moonlight.

So. HOw is this the author's fault? Simple: It's boring. There's no tension between the MCs. There's a lot of BS paranormal stuff happening to the heroine that is only related to the hero. The heroine is a survivor of a brutal sexual attack that is mentioned heavily but goes no where... its for "character development." Fuck. That.

So, all in all. It's Meh. It's very meh.

And my dumbass has about 5 or 6 more already bought in this series. *facepalm*

Oct 2018 Purchase Notes: Soooooo....

I read another series by this author years ago and really liked it. But...it was also kinda free in that I was using Scribd or KU or something.

Today, I get an email that this book is free. It's a 6 book series and THREE of them are free on Amazon. The rest are on a kindle sale for $0.99 each.

So my dumb ass just bought the whole series...and whenever this happens I usually am not a fan of the series. But at least I only spent $2.97. So...win/sorta win??

I received this in return for an honest review. This is a relaunch of a previously released book.
Tamra was trying to escape the nightmares of being kidnapped. It was a hard time in her life and she is struggling to get through it.
Kyle is an Etruscan werewolf his job is a kings assassin and he does it well. He has been single for a long time.
Cat is Kyle's daughter and she befriends Tamra they both have pasts that help them heal together. Little does Cat now the pull that will be between Tamra and Kyle when Cat invites her over. When Tamra and Kyle meet there is a pull so strong they don know if they can fight it and with other things involved they also don't want to move forward. He knows she may not be excepted in there group but he also know she is his mate. When they realize she is in danger she has to be a strong woman to keep Kyle safe.

I was sucked in from the first page the story is deep and it is hot.

Kyle Rossini likes is little slice of the world, it was far removed from society and yet near enough for his friends to know where he is and for his daughter to let her inner self shine.

That said daughter is the one person he loves most in the world, yet she is also the bane of his life with how much she is like her mother. Despite his warning to her to stay on his land and have as much fun as she can, alone – she finds her self more often then not doing her own thing and this time she has guilt him into checking out her new find.

Kyle follow up on his daughters request and goes visiting, he however goes as his other self, which is a big, black, wolf and before long he is privy to a lot of the new neighbours secrets and his wolf his chomping at the bit to make things right for her. However despite all this, one thing Kyle is almost certain of, the new neighbour Tamra McMillan is also his mate.

Tamra McMillan is in hiding and mostly from herself – after going through a traumatic experience both physically and emotionally less than a year ago, she is barely surviving. All she does is move from place to place and watches who and what is around her. Her last stop is little more than a house in the middle of nowhere and she is not expecting to find anyone out here to talk to – yet she finds herself talking to two dogs as she doubts they are wolves in this part of the world. But more than the two pooches she has visitors and they are unlike any body else that she has ever met. The young lady Cat is vibrant, tenacious and does not know how to take no for an answer. Her dad Kyle is just about the hottest man she has ever seen and also the first man in along time that her libido has stood and said HELLO to.

Once these three meets things escalates at a fast pace and in a way that made any of the three are any wiser. One of the first bubble to burst is the fact that Kyle and Cat are shifters and from there it’s all a tempestuous situation, with danger, tension, lust and taking chances all rampant and around every corer. Something had to give as Kyle is caught in the middle because as much as he knows Tamra is his mate – he is also the shifter assassin and he is trained to killed.

I have been eagerly awaiting this books for a while now and as soon as Ellora’s Cave put it up this morning I was running up a tab…. I really wanted to try this new new series by this author for a few reasons. Firstly, a while ago I started Ms. Julian previous series and didn’t even finish the first book – not because it wasn’t any good but because I didn't have the time to appreciate it, secondly I am a big fan of shifter books and from the blurb this was built as something a little different.

Highlights

The book begins with Kyle the main protag not only in a heated discussion with his daughter but also with him doing a whole lot of soul searching. I liked how the book opened – it caught my interest and the dynamics between Kyle and his daughter Cat was one of the better scenes of the book.

This is definately book one in a series and it reads like it as well. With introductions here and there and enough back history on the etruscan - Ms. Julian did a great job in laying the framework.

Recently I have found myself not being able to handle books with too much abuse or emotional drama and I was pleased that as much as Tamra has been through a unholy ordeal, it was not detailed – so I empathized with her and I was very sympathetic to what she was going through, but I also knew she had to move on from it all without getting all the gory details.

I loved Kyle, he acted tough, he was tough, but when it came to his daughter and his new mate – he was mush, it was a thrill to see the mighty fall.

I liked the chemistry between Kyle and Tamra, at first I was not sure Tamra was ready for Kyle after all she had been through – but when a woman see’s what she wants who am I to say any different.

There was a fine balance with the storylines, as much as it was all bits and pieces at first, it came together and soon everyone was on the same page.

The mystery was well thought out – the explanations of the angst and unknown were not outside of the realm of the paranormal and I look forward to where the second book takes this mystery.

I love an author who is not unwilling to share and I was very pleased to see the kindling's of the next books playing out at the end of this story and I was LOVING it… yup I so was…

There is smut involved in KISS OF THE MOONLIGHT and it was good – not too over the top and with due consideration for the fact that Tamra was cutting loose for the first time in a hell of a long time.

There is an earthiness to this book which I like alot. All the cast were very into nature and in everything they did it was with the intension of giving back to mother nature.

Lowlights

This book could have done with a glossary right from the first page. While it didn’t stress me to figure out what was happening and who was what – I really didn’t get up to speed on the whole Etri/ Etruscan situation until about fifty pages in.

There are shifters, witches and etri (humans) presented in this book – however other worldly being or either on the outskirt of the plot or alluded to in KISS OF THE MOONLIGHT, I would love to see them introduced into future books – as they play such an integral part in how the story shapes up.

There is one storyline that I only got a little and I mean a little glimpse of and I was so disappointed this was not the book it was followed up in – I eagerly awaiting that plot line….

Bottom line.

A wonderful first book in a series that I was very pleased to have read. There is an excitement to the pace that the book takes which I was very impressed with. The protags are easy on the eyes and on my nerves as well. I was not bored or tired of them in the least and I am looking forward to seeing them again in future books.

The support cast were friendly, nosey and knows how to get their own way all too easily. What issues I had with this book I can deal with because if the little glimpse that I have seem of the second book is anything to go by – it is going to be one hell of a storm … and I can’t wait…. definately a series to watch.

I was asked to review this book by the author ~ all thoughts expressed here are my own.

I do not judge short stories on the rush of their relationships, because they are just that - short stories. So, yes the relationships always could have been drawn out more, yea it seems like they fall in love to fast and of course the story could have been made longer... but it is a short story. So with that said....

This book is roughly under 130 pages and let me tell you... Ms. Julian makes use of all of them. This was the first book I had ever read by Ms. Julian and it will not be my last. She is a new to me author, so I am very excited to introduce to her here at the Lair!

Tamara is a very strong willed woman. Having survive an attack and putting her attacker in the hospital with a coma, I would say she is a very determined woman. Afraid her attacker will come out of the coma and come after her... she hits the pavement running. She founds a piece of family property no one knows about (hopefully) and she seeks refuge there.

Kyle... oh man.. Let me just give you this quote that will give you a glimpse of Kyle. This is taken from a conversation between Kyle and his King... about Tam.... "“I’m relieving you of duty for the next twenty-four hours,” Cole called to him just as he stepped into the hall. “Go, make sure she’s safe. Bring her back ’cause I want to meet the woman who brought down the mighty Kyle Rossini.” Kyle is a lucani versipellis, born from a long line of Etruscan wolf skin-shifters.

When Tam moved out to her family's property, she was merely trying to run away from her demons; she never expecting to run into more. She was seeking peace and quiet, a place to hide and not be noticed. Instead what she got was anything and everything other than that.

Kyle was fine with the way his life was going. His position in the "army" was just fine with him. He has a daughter who he absolutely adores, a best friend who he could count on day or night and the mother of his child and wife/mate to his best friend. What more could a man ask for, or so that is what he thought until he encountered Tamara.

Kyle and Tamara's story take us on a wild ride... One you will not soon forget. Tamara's world gets turned upside down and inside out within the blink of an eye. Her world of just the plain jane turns into so much more. Tamara witnesses firsthand at what a magical world is like. She is not one to believe in a HEA, does she want one.. sure what woman does not want one. But after her attack, she considers herself to be broken, no good. What I admired about Tam is her spirit. Even though she was dealt some crappy cards in life, she did not try to play the victim card.

Kyle never thought love was meant for him - the assassin for the King. He is a supreme bad-ass, except around his daughter. Thanks to her and her pushness, Kyle met Tam. And even though she is only a human, something called to him - the man and wolf. He wanted her, to have, to hold, to mate, to everything. But he could not figure out why. He never had these feelings before - so why now, why with a human.

Is Tamara the one that will get through to his lonely heart and make him give up everything for? Is Kyle the one that will save her from her demons? How strong does love really have to be to over come all?

This book is an explosive start to an amazing series. The characters come alive with every line that is written. You can feel the emotions (all of them, the love, the hate, the violence, the devotion...) flowing though the pages. You could also feel the steam coming off the pages when you read the love scenes (be warned you may singe your fingertips). The action scenes were not spared any details either. There is never a dull moment in the book. I can thoroughly say that I truly enjoyed Ms. Julian' writing style and I am very excited to be starting book two... Cuz let me just tell you now.... You get the biggest tease of your life... This woman is good!!!! **evil laughter**

And fyi.... Yea... Kyle is a Sex on a Stick man!!!!!

I do have to say against my own rule, I wish I had more of Tam and Kyle's relationship! They remind me of Charles and Anna from Ms. Patricia Briggs's Alpha & Omega series! Yes, that is how awesome this book is and these two characters are.

Tamra McMillan is hiding. She has bounced from town to town because she was brutally raped. Although her rapist is in a coma, she lives in fear he’ll come out of it and find her. Tamra has no one to turn to that is until Kyle Rossini enters her life.

Kyle enjoys his life of solitude where he enjoys spending time with the young teenager Cat, who he treats like his own daughter even though he is not her biological father. Cat calls Kyle by “dad” because she feels he is a father to her as much as her natural father is. Kyle loves Cat more than his own life and keeps a close watch on her because she sometimes doesn’t obey her elders. And for a shift-changing werewolf, she needs to be more careful because of their enemies. Kyle knows all too well what it’s like is to be a protector because he is the king’s assassin. Cat doesn’t see his violent nature that simmers just below the surface. And now she wants Kyle to help their new next door neighbor, a human woman who is very frightened and alone, or so Cat believes. And because Cat has Kyle wrapped around her little finger, he does what she asks.

When Kyle goes to Tamra in his wolf form, he falls for her instantaneously as she tells him about her on-going nightmares and her fears of never living a normal life again. The farthest thing Kyle wants is a mate, but he connects to Tamra in ways he can’t explain. He begins to court her slowly and carefully, trying to keep his animalistic hunger for her under control. But, all bets are off when Tamra’s home is broken into and she is the victim of a kidnapping plot that hits closer to home for Kyle’s family and friends. It’s up to him to protect Tamra and claim her as his.

Kiss of Moonlight should appeal to those fans who enjoy a shift-changing semi-alpha hero who doesn’t want to fall in love, but does. Kyle is a wonderful character who tries to hide his tender nature (because he’s big he-man, hear him roar), but can’t because of his love for the sweet and innocent Cat, and his passion for the scarred Tamra. The way Kyle handles Tamra is exactly the way a man should act towards a woman who’s been brutalized. Tamra keeps her emotional distance, but because Kyle does have that special way about him, she can’t help but fall into his arms. Why Tamra is so open to being with Kyle is explained so the reader isn’t put off over the fact that a woman recovering from a horrible trauma would be open to such intimacies with a man.

Stephanie Julian does have nice storytelling and world building skills, but one specific part of the plot didn’t really make sense for me. This is in regards to Tamra’s kidnapping, which comes out of the blue for no reason and doesn’t have anything to do with her rape. This is because of Kyle and the world he lives in. Also, Tamra does a somewhat stupid move that has a major cause and effect for her and Kyle’s relationship I felt wasn’t needed. I guess it was to cement the emotional bonds between these two. I also felt the, “let’s tie up loose ends ending as fast as we can” fell flat.

There are some nice steamy love scenes and I did really enjoy Kyle who has those alpha like tendencies readers may desire in their literary heroes. Kiss of Moonlight was a pleasing read even with a few minor issues I had.

Kiss of Moonlight is a quick warm sexy read. Tamara had a bad experience where she lived and moved into her great-grandfather place she inherited to get way for a fresh start, but what she found is two wolves that came to visit her at separate times not knowing they would be in her life forever.

Kyle is much older than Tamara, but when he came to check on her in his wolf form(as his daughter wanted) he founds Tamara spilling her guts about her life to a him and it melts his hart. The next thing he knew his daughter invited Tamara to a cookout this is were the adventure begins. Kyle has a secret (its not only him being a werewolf ) and he has to take matters in his hands to help Tamara.

Kyle’s daughter Cat is wonderful you’ll fall for her alone in this book. I love the way she is written in for her to help her dad find love, you don’t read that in to many books. I hope to see Cat have her own book in this series.

Kyle Rossini, Etruscan werewolf falls in love with Tamra at first sight. He can't believe it. He wasn't looking for a mate, but he sure found one. Of course danger lurks, but nothing will keep him from making Tamra his or keeping his family safe.

I fell for the hero Kyle from the beginning. From his simple conversation with his daughter in chapter one. To his compassion on meeting Tamra. Did I mention he's pretty easy on the eyes too. Kyle is fierce, but loving and Tamra is scared, but learning to live again. They are just what the other needs.

Kiss of Moonlight is the first book in a new series called Lucani Lovers. This first installment is a great beginning. I loved this story. But the bit of cliffhanger at the end about killed me. I'm eager to read the upcoming books in this series.

I liked Kiss of Moonlight it was something different for me to read and little bit out of my comfort zone with an unknown author and something new to try.

The story was a quick read for me and although I enjoyed it my interested wasn't glued to Kiss of Moonlight like some other books.

I enjoyed the relationship between Kyle and Tamra but it didn't blow me away. I much preferred reading about his daughter's relationship with a supposed god. Maybe a story will come from that at some point and then I make pick the series up again. I did really enjoy the start of the book where Kyle and his daughter would turn up as Wolf's and Tamra would feed them and talk to them.

I'm glad I tried reading Kiss of Moonlight it's a great erotic romance without trying to push the boundaries too far.

This is book one of the Lucani Lovers series. This is a shifter series. This story is about Kyle( The Lucani Assassin ). Also Tamara, a traumatized nurse on the run. When Kyle finds her hidden and damaged, he knows he must help her. But his clan are enemies with humans. What will happen when she realizes she wants him? What will he do when he has to decide if he can give up control to another person? This is a fast paced book, but well thought out. The terms are hard to learn at first but you get used to them. I am looking forward to reading the next book.

UGH!!!! Another suck fest.... At least I lasted longer this time than with the last book I read. Made it to the 66% mark with this one... Just wasn't feeling the characters or their issues here. It started out decent enough. A little intrigue & suspense. But it quickly began to lose it's way.

Tamra (Tam) is recovering from an abusive rape. She is also a nursing student. Kyle is an assassin and a werewolf. Someone is after Tam for the little bit of magic she possesses. Kyle is trying to figure out who it is while protecting her from the men sent to kidnap her. Kyle and Tam fall in love instantly. When Tam wants more space to live her life, will that be the end of their relationship?

I did not like how this novel ended. There are a few questions, and the epilogue is a cliffhanger for the next book in the series. Also, the rapidity with which Tamra had a sexual relationship with Kyle disturbed me. Perhaps it happened because of the mating factor. There were a few grammatical and punctuation errors, but they did not interrupt the story. Adult language and explicit sex.

I really liked this one in the beginning and then at 60% I found myself skimming. I ended up not finishing it. Became predictable. I got bored. My opinion. Very little drama. There is some suspense. The heroine suffered a tragic experience. Now there was someone after her.

You may love it. Reading is subjective.

Magical mayhem

A powerful tale full of magic and mayhem! Evil is alive and searching for her! She survived one tragedy can she survive another? Will the love of her mate protect her, or will she lose him too?

This is the first in the Lucani Lovers series and, as such, suffers from some of the same faults as other series' starts, especially in the paranormal realm. World building takes work. Laying the foundation of a good (paranormal) series takes work. Unfortunately, sometimes that world building and foundation laying leads to some lags in the pacing. That being said, however, the end result, the world and history of the Lucani (and the Etruscan mythology that forms it), is well worth it. I love werewolves and I love paranormal stories built on world mythology. Put 'em together and I'm doubly in love. And, despite the plethora of werewolf and mythological stories out there, this one is unique. I can honestly say I've never dipped my toes into the Etruscan mythos before and that made this book and the world building, exciting. It wasn't just your everyday werewolf story.

I like Kyle; he's my favorite kind of hero. He's tough, bad-ass, and macho. He's skilled at his job as the king's assassin. But he's been hurt and tries to hide it, and he's totally wrapped around his daughter's little finger. His relationship with Cat would make up for any character flaws he might have had (not that there really were any). I like the way Kyle interacts with his daughter, I like the way Kyle interacts with his buddy and the mother of his daughter, I like the way Kyle interacts with his fellow Lucani, and I love the way he protects those he considers his. In case you couldn't tell, I really like Kyle.

And I love Kyle's daughter, Cat. She's fun, smart, smart-allecky, caring. And she's already got a complicated future love life (with and Etruscan god, no less) (I'll add that I don't know if there is actually a book coming with her story...I've got some research to do).

And then there's Tamra. I didn't really like Tamra. I didn't dislike her. Unfortunately, a week after reading it, I hardly remember her. She's got a traumatic past which leads into her current predicament and makes her a sympathetic character, perfect for someone like Kyle to swoop in and protect. Tamra is a little cookie-cutter in some respects and manages to be predictable while pulling a bone-headed moved (similar to the girl in the horror movie who runs upstairs when the serial killer/monster is chasing her through the house) that is needed to move the plot along.

Kyle is significantly older than Tamra (he's almost 40 to her 23). I like that Julian didn't shy away from the age difference--it was an "issue" that they had to contend with and it was handled well, without it creeping into creepy Daddy territory or blowing it out of proportion.

The secondary characters are engaging and the world-building and mythos (as stated above) was outstanding. I love the paranormal elements and the set-up for the rest of the series is well done. In fact, I wasted no time in grabbing a copy of Moonlight Menage.

On the whole, a very good read that I recommend, if for no other reason than Kyle is awesome and the paranormal aspects are darned cool.

Kiss Of Moonlight has made its own perfect fit into the shifter world! The first book of hopefully a very long running series!

Kyle is a tough, tattoo covered ,no non-sense assasin for the Lucani King, who recently had an incedent while on a mission. He has never been the same since. He cares for his daughter cat, and does what he can to protect his family, and his people from any harm.
Cat, Kyles daughter is your average young girl......except for the fact that she is part Lucani and part witch. She does her best to get her dad to help her friend, their new neighbor Tamara.
Tamara, a girl who is running from her brutal past of being beatin and raped. She moves from one place to the next to try and hide. Her only friends are a young pup and wolf who show up on her door step with an open ear, and affection that lets tamara open up and get things out into the open without human hears around.

I have to say I truly enjoyed reading Kiss of Moonlight! I could not put it down. Stephanie Julian has done a wonderful job creating a world that sucks you in. My only complaint..........it just wasn't long enough!!!! I was already craving more before i got to the end! The world of the Etruscan werewolves , and Etruscan witches is kept secret from your averag human being. Until Tamara comes along.*sigh* What i wouldn't give to be in her shoes!

Stephanies creation of characters was perfect. I liked how the hero , and heroine are not your typical perfect couple. Kyle is a bit older than Tamara, and I think that is part of what helps in creating the relationship and bond they build. It does happen a little too fast for me, but then again the faster it happens the quicker the romance kicks in!The Romance / Sex scenes..........Stephanie hit the nail on the head. Not to much, not to little, but the love that grows between Kyle, and Tamara is unmistakable.

Throughout the story you get a glimpse into a few of the other characters. It adds to the story , but leaves you craving for more. Stephanie has done a wonderful job keeping you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what come next. And lucky us.........the next book Moonlight Menage comes out 3-3-2010

OMG this book was fantastic.
Kyle is an incredible hero. The relationship he has with his daughter (Cat) alone is enough to make any woman fall in love with him. But there is so much more to love. He is best friends with Cat's stepfather and still really cares for her mother. It makes a nice change to see a situation like that just work. They all get on so well, and Cat is a very lucky lady to have two incredible men look after her.
What I loved about Tamra (the Heroine) was the fact that she is a fighter. The likes of which I have never seen. Without giving too much away, she was very brutally attacked 6 months before this book takes place. She was raped, beaten and held hostage. Recovering as best she can, she confides her depest fears and secrets to what she thinks is just a large dog. Not knowing that a man hides within the animal. Seething at what he is hearing about this poor womans past.
I took great comfort from knowing that the disgusting excuse for a human being got what he deserved. He didn't count on Tamra getting free and beating his sorry ass within an inch of his life. He is now in a coma, expected to never wake up.
There are also some good sideline characters. But we didn't find out that much about them. There is Tira, who can see the future, but it appears her gift comes at a great cost to herself. I can't wait to find out more about her. She is from Kyle's pack. Now from what I can gather, she seems to be in some kind of love triangle with Varro Ducate/Duke and Nic Rocca. They are two men from the kings army that Kyle works with. They are both in love with her, Nic (I'm not sure why yet) cannot touch her, skin to skin. Something bad happens to her if he does, but what? And Duke will not touch her because he knows it will kill his friend to know that Duke can touch her but he can't. This book ends with the three of them scared for Tira, after having a bad reaction to reading someones future. So I plan to start reading the next one tonight to find out what the hell is going on...
Great book, I would highly recommend.

Julian’s lucani (wolf shifter) characters have a large presence in What a Goddess Wants. I found them very interesting and just had to find out more about them. It makes sense to jump into her Lucani Lovers series, so here I am. Kiss of Moonlight takes place several years prior to the Forgotten Goddesses series so jumping into the lucani world with this book was a great place to start.

Kyle is a single dad who enjoys every second of the time he gets to spend with his very witty, intelligent beyond her years, daughter Catene. He has a good relationship with the mother of his child and is best friends with her mate. As a loner Kyle has chosen to live separate from the rest of his lucani brethren. He is also caring enough not to bring anyone too far into his very dangerous life. He would never want a loved one to be put in harms way because of him

Tamra is running from the nightmare that has consumed her life. She is not comfortable anywhere. She doesn’t have any family to turn to. Once the stress finally got to be too much for her she decided to open up to the stray puppy that hangs out on her porch. She just never expected for the puppy to go home, shift to a clever teen, and then proceed to play match maker. I now know why my friend Laurie at Bitten by Paranormal Romance raved about Cat. This kid rocks! I can’t wait to read more of her.

I loved Kyle! He radiates dangerous bad ass. He’s enormous, tattooed, an assassin, and deep down a huge teddy bear when it comes to Cat and Tam. He was so gentle and so kind to Tam. He thought he would scare her at every turn. Tam, even though she has been through so much horror she handles all of the crazy thrown at her pretty well.

As with all of Stephanie’s books there are some extraordinary hot sex scenes. This lady writes incredibly hot smut! The romance doesn’t feel rushed or pushed. There is a great mix of action, romance, and erotica.

I also have to point out that Kyle drives a Jeep Wrangler. I do love my book hero’s in a Jeep!

But otherworldly forces are afoot and death hovers…

Etruscan werewolf Kyle is a loner.
_______________________________________________________________________________________

Kyle has a daughter named cat, the mother(Margie) mated with kyle's best friend Dan.
Cole is the lucani king!!!
cat has a crush on tivr and tivr has one on cat.
Kamra's been in hiding, and kyle finds her home cause its close to his property/place, and he falls for her at first sight. which he thinks fates playing with him cause shes like half his age(he's almost fourty and she's in twenties).
Cat accidentally changes into a wolf infront of Kam because it was the full moon, but unlike other books, Kamra didnt run away or screm or get frightened. which i think makes her really cool.

at the end there was of course a happy ending and kyle didnt die from the "Bullet wound".
considering it only got his sholder...opps my bad shouldnt have spoiled the book....oh well. :P

OMG is all I can say about this book. I LOVED IT... and I am so angry that I waited this long to read it. The story took off and stole the rest of my evening. Kyle is sexy as hell and the love he has for his daughter would make anyone envy her. Kyle's daughter Cat is a young girl with so much heart and compassion that you can do nothing but love ger. Tam is a woman whom has nothing but a rough life.. working for everything she has ever gotten and done it all on her own. Then a terrible insident happens and she is lost.. running from her now sorted past and the nightmares that continue to remind her of the worst time of her young life. She doesnt know why she is attracted to this older man.. Kyle.. but boy is she. Kyle wants nothing more to protect Tam.. wrap her up in his sexy, strong, ginormous arms and take care of her and although she would love that.. she has her pride and knows that she is not fragile and she is not as breakable as she might look.

I was so excited about this book by the second chapter that I went online and bought the next 2 before I even finished it. As soon as my weekend shift is over.. I will spend the next day reading the rest of this series. I already have my bookclub sooooo excited about reading it that 2 of them already bought it... and the others are just waiting for payday.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves shifters, love and sexy ass men!!! It has a great story that makes you want to keep reading until you know it all. Well done Steph... I cant wait to finish these and move onto your other series!!!

Gotta get back to work..lol.. I'm such a slacker!!

This was a very sweet story. The first one in the series. It was a short read but very sexy and romantic too. Their romance started pretty early on so they worked together to tackle the villains, also with the help of the other secondary characters. Kyle was so compassionate and considerate of Tamra's feelings and wanted to be gentle with her because of the trauma she had been through. I loved the whole love at first sight element. Sure, it isn't realistic but it was just yummy. It all worked perfectly and the epilogue set up the next story very nicely...

The world of wolves in this series is very unique. The entire mystical and magical mix of all these supernatural beings is very special, I think. It will be interesting to read the various stories that can come out of this world. Just a tip: pay attention to the Glossary. Lots of terms that you won't understand if you don't follow the glossary. But still, very interesting and intriguing direction the author took with these wonderful characters...

Kiss of Moonlight is the first book in the Lucani Lovers series. It introduces us to Kyle Rossini who is Etruscan -werewolf- and the King's assassin. (Thankfully, Stephanie provides us with a glossary in the beginning of the book) He's a loner and not looking for a mate (isn't that always the case? ;}), but can't resist Tamra.

Tamra suffered an attack and has been closed off since then. But, when a little black dog (wolf) shows up, she feels safe in talking about her pain and the ordeal. The "little black dog" being Kyle's daughter, Cat. Cat, lives with her mother and her mate, but spends time with Kyle. They are close and their relationship is touching.

Kyle and Tamra both need someone, whether they realized it or not, and they find those needs fulfilled by the other. They are good for each other.

Kiss of Moonlight was a fun introduction to Kyle's world. I look forward to reading more of the series.

Seemed like an old school paranormal, with Latin words used to describe roles within their world. I found that rather tedious and juvenile, but the plot was OK. I liked the H, a wolf with a daughter who lives part time with him, and the rest with her other parents. She was the result of a threesome. The h is human living away from the human world where she was raped. Now someone is hunting her, so he goes full on protector and falls for her. She's thrilled to find herself drawn to him, clearly she's recovered. Meh - just OK.
