This book is brilliant and beautiful. I wish there were an English edition. Maybe I'll translate it? Yeah, sure. Inshallah.

Read in preparation for my journey to Morocco this year ("journey" makes it sound way more epic than it was - I was only there for one brief, but intense, week). I'm so very glad that I didn't buy this book in french, because I would have likely had to admit defeat after even the first, few sentences. Even in German I had a hard time following, and I freely admit that I have no idea what this book is about, or what I could tell you to make you want to read it, or not read it.

الطاهر بن جلون
Tahar Ben Jelloun (Arabic: الطاهر بن جلون) is a Moroccan writer. The entirety of his work is written in French, although his first language is Arabic. He became known for his 1985 novel L’Enfant de Sable (The Sand Child). Today he lives in Paris and continues to write. He has been short-listed for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
