Some 400 years ago, George Chapman wrote of the play Alphonsus, Emperor of Germany, "the design is high, the contrivement subtle". That analysis applies perfectly to The Mirror of Yu-Huang. Anytime a series of stories relies on a contrivance, the author runs the risk of alienating her readers by demanding from them too much ‘suspended disbelief’. This was my first introduction to the Library of Athena, though halfway through I went back and bought the first two volumes, and I was pleased with the book. I am a huge fan of Ancient China, and I was looking forward to seeing what Ms. Norris did with the myths of this culturally rich time frame. I now have new stories to seek out! There is another reviewer who said she figured out the villain from the introduction. I must be more easily misled, because I wasn't sure who the villain was until ...more

It had been a while since I read a library of athena book . I was a little lost at first trying to remember the girls names and personalities. I really like that the series expanded into into more than just Greek mythology. It made me want to bring out my Chinese fairy tales book. Yes, I have one, where it is is the question.

The only thing I wish about the book is that the characters were not thrown all together as you are being introduced. There just seemed to be a lot of people and I felt like
