The Highest Bidder

Rate this book
It’s no accident that Tristan Rexford is nicknamed T-Rex. As a quarterback for the California Predators, he’s a hunter both on and off the football field. He lives a lavish lifestyle and carries a black book thicker than the average dictionary. Correction: “black book” is so outdated. Let’s just say his Facebook contacts could rival the Yellow Pages. He has the world at his fingertips, and he has no thoughts of settling down. And why should he? With a seven-figure income, a dazzling smile, and a body resembling Michelangelo’s David, he’s every woman’s fantasy.

But Doctor Alexa Kennedy lives in the real world. She barely has time for her patients, and even less time for fantasies. At thirty-something, she’s lonely, bored, and sex-starved. But when it comes to dealing with men, she’s short on patience and long on disappointment. When one of the hospital’s board members attends a charity benefit and ends up with the winning bid for a date with Tristan, Alexa is chosen to escort him. She could less about watching some grown ass men run up and down the field smashing into each other. But the moment she meets Tristan, all that thinking flies out the window. Simply put, he’s the sexiest man she’s has ever laid eyes on.

They share a night of passion before Tristan retreats back into his glamorous world, leaving her aching for more. Alexa tells herself it was all in the name of charity. She’s far too sensible to fall for someone like Tristan. Or is she?

I'm a multi-published author of sizzling-hot African-American romance. I'm also a Walking Dead fan and a recovering shoe addict. I never met a stiletto I didn't like!

I've always been an avid reader of all romance genres. A few years ago, I decided to share my knowledge of Egypt and Nubia by publishing my first African-American historical romance, entitled Pharaoh's Desire. Then, in November of 2010, I published my first urban romance, The Highest Bidder. Whether I'm writing historical or contemporary romances, I always try to educate my readers and teach them something they may not have known before.

When I'm not writing, I enjoy doing anything artsy, collecting Native American pottery, and indulging in my one true obsession - shoe shopping! I live in Dallas, TX with my husband, photographer Kerry Rand.

Check me out at www.ChantaRand.com. And remember: You can't expect any sizzle...if you don't turn up the heat!

I really enjoyed this book (which I don’t say too often). However somewhere in the middle it made a quick left turn and almost lost me. Although she (the author) took a left turn, it wasn’t a wrong turn it was just a different turn. I was in love with both Tristian and Alexa, she gave just a little bit sass and he gave it back which I loved.

Also, I didn’t feel like the story was rushed it was like a nice Sunday drive that once you reached your destination you wanted to jump back in the car and drive some more (hence I fell asleep reading and woke up at 3am reading some more).

I was a little upset that Alexa didn’t know that something had happened to Tristian especially when he’s famous. I’m sure it was on every news channel (so she should’ve see it at the hospital, the airport or anywhere they sell magazines or newspaper) so I wasn’t convinced that she didn’t know what happened.
It would’ve been better to see Alexa go through the rehab/counseling with Tristian and show the challenge of adjusting to his mental health in dealing with his trauma.

Either way, this was A GOODREAD!

Quick read. This follows a pro football player and Dr. Alexa as they meet, break up and then rekindle their love. It's a good book that I enjoyed. It throws a twist close to the end that I wasn't expecting but cleared it up by the end of the book. I think the book would be much better if it was a little bit longer and explored that twist a little bit more. Overall, I enjoyed it and didn't have many complaints. I got what I wanted from the book.

Good read

So much hatred, we have for each other. We do c have to find ways to channel the evil t a key people feel they, have a,right to inflict on people. Love is the best way to start. Without family and friends. It can be hard. Sometimes you have to step away to do it.

High Praise

This book gets high praise for a nice plot, great character development and an easy fun story. Pro football player Tristan T-Rex Rexford participated in a bachelor auction charity fundraiser for a Dallas hospital. The winning bid was by an older woman. However his date would be with a much younger and very attractive doctor. Dr Alexa Kennedy was not happy nor ready to deal with this man, not on any level. This player was for real and he wanted to let the doctor explore his anatomy. With the added publicity from their first date Alexa starting her running scared routine as usual and Tristan was in for a long run in unfamiliar territory when it came to women. Alexa and Tristan grew to have strong feeling that neither wanted to admit. The story took a few turns that were unexpected and emotionally tugged at my heart. I was happy to see the final outcome. I questioned why Tristan did not choose a medical intervention for the scars. Maybe that will be addressed in the subsequent books.

I was so into this book from the beginning to the middle. You would have not expected such a successful doctor to get with a quarterback, but Tristan laid the charm on Alexa hard and she fell for him. I thought they had a ton of chemistry, and the sex scenes were really steamy. Once Tristian was attacked, and Alexa went to Brazil, the book just totally slowed down for me, and then the ending came so quickly. I wish the mid-end of the story was about them together more, than their lives apart.

This story started off well. The chemistry between H&h was great although I found Alexa a tad prickly. But Tristan more than made up for it. But half-way through the story the couple were spilt and spent the rest of the time separately. And they come back together at the end and are supposed to live happily ever after.

I personally wanted to see more of the couple together before the happy ever after. All in all, it was a good read.

This
book started off slow and as soon as it was getting good, it went
barreling down the hill and it never improved. I found myself skimming
over parts just to finish it. It had so much potential but I found it
disappointing.

Starts off with a BIG BANG...the passion and connection between Tristan and Alexa is INSTANT and INTENSE...however the storyline FIZZLES a bit in the middle...but it CLOSES on a sweet and ENDEARING note...so overall it's another GOOD read by Chanta Rand.

Dullsville. This could have been so great!! I love an athlete and a doctor. great combo but sadly this just never got off Luke warm for me. Another skimmed to the end I'm afraid. Very poor in the middle, it really dragged.

Great characters, good chemistry, and meaningful story line. It just tended to be a bit cheesy and dreamy at parts.
