Recounts the stories of pioneer women who traveled west on the Oregon Trail and examines the quilts they brought with them, made on the journey, or completed after they arrived at their new homes
Colored photos of beautiful quilts made by incredible women who were among the first to travel on the Oregon Trail. Each quilt is described along with a brief history of each woman. There are several photos of those women or of their families also. Don't miss reading the Appendixes, as they're as interesting as the rest of the book. I treasure my Grandma Effie's quilts from the 1930's that were left to me, so I know just how special a quilt can be.
Really enjoyed this book, there was not only information on the quilts and their makers but also historical background and stories from the Oregon Trail and settling in the new territory. Very interesting.
Anyone interested in the Oregon Trail will find plenty of interesting stuff in this book. Then add an interest in women and their quilts and it's a great book full of photos of the quilts made during the Oregon Trail years and shortly thereafter.
