2.5 stars. A light, simple, easygoing, down to earth read. Topics are slotted neatly under headings like "Emotional Insecurity" and "Hyper-sensitivity". Practical common-sense advice provided, specifically a call to notice and identify painful emotions, then to replace them with mindfulness (being present in the present, through all 5 senses), bite sized manageable goals, revaluation of the accuracy of negative beliefs etc. Each chapter begins with a pithy description of the experiences of a hypothetical person (e.g. shy man at an office party etc). Some characters were tediously cliched and sexist, like the nasty possessive girlfriend; and overall this book, while having generally sensible content, felt rushed, harried, a little defensive, and a touch half baked.

Just cheer up!

Low self confidence? Just get over it! Not a very helpful book. It's like trying to explain why you don't feel confident in the future to your Mom. She doesn't want to hear it.

How to escape from a bad event or situation

The new wrinkle in this book was how to escape from those social situations you really did not want to go to in the first place.

This book really helped me identify what areas of emotional insecurity I need to work on and some great techniques/methods to use. I will definitely be using the things I learned in this book!
