I'm really surprised that it is only now that I've "discovered" the books by Emilie Barnes. I've been living her philosophy regarding making a home special for family and for friends and for myself all of my adult life. I didn't learn anything new, but Barnes spoke my language throughout, so I nodded frequently in agreement. Some "experts" shun doing things that Barnes encouraged, and she wasn't big on silly decorating or hospitality rules. In addition, the paintings are beautiful and made me want to crawl into the page, curl up in a chair, and continue reading Emilie's wise words.
