This is my favorite Catherine Mann book. I have read this great book no less than six times, usually a twice a year ritual. Actually, I truly enjoyed the whole 'Rich, Rugged And Royal' series but this one is my favorite.
Lilah Anderson is the chief administrator of a leading surgical facility in Tacoma. She has had a fascination for and an attraction to Dr. Carlos Medina since he came on staff fours years ago. They have been very close friends throughout those four years with a sizzling attraction and it all culminated with a scorching hot one night of passion that will change their lives forever. Since that night he avoids her at all cost, won't talk to her and she is hurt and angry. She didn't think he would be so uncaring. Never did she suspect the good doctor would deny his own child. Angry and brokenhearted, Lilah runs into a female staff employee while leaving Dr. Medina's office and finds out that the gal is involved with Dr. Medina But is it what she thinks? Her heart shatters in two and she leaves for the day.
It was discovered that the good doctor was not only brilliant and gorgeous, but he was also Royalty, his father a deposed king. He has been deeply attracted to Lilah since he hired on. She's been his best friend for the last four years. And now Lilah has told him she's pregnant with his child which he refuses to believe. It simply couldn't be his child as he was told he was sterile after all the invasive surgeries during his years of recuperation after the Rebels had killed his mother and gravely wounded Carlos as they escaped their country.
I loved this book and it was a great story with a super ending. I highly recommend you read it!
Dr. Carlos Medina and Chief Administrator lawyer at Tacoma Surgical facility, Lilah Anderson have been friends since she hired him four years ago.
Despite being attracted to Lilah, Carlos has kept himself away from her. There was no way he was going to ruin their friendship by sleeping with her. Especially when he knew the accident that gave him his permanent limp and scars on back also took his ability to have kids. Yet, that went out the window at their latest Christmas party a little over 2months ago.
He finally slept with her and now he's ignoring her. Lilah couldn't believe her luck. Ever since she found out, she has been trying to talk to him, but he just keeps avoiding her. Desperate, she corners him in the mens locker room and tells him she's pregnant.....
..just to have him laugh at her. When he explains that he cannot possibly be the father, Lilah sticks to her claim and walks out. Leaving Carlos to question everything the doctors told him. Being a doctor himself, he quickly orders a sperm count test and discovers, although slim, the possibility is there.
Still not believing a hundred percent, he decides they should take a week off work, go to his vacation home, and get to know each other until they can have a paternity test done.
Soon, Carlos realizes he doesn't care weather the baby is his or not because Lilah is and he's not letting her go. Rushing his new found realization, he proposes, which she quickly says no too, believing he's only doing it because of the baby. T Adding a strain on their already fragile relationship.
Their week ends early when his brothers call giving him the news of their father's health quickly declining due to a failing liver. When Carlos visits his father, he can tell he is giving up. Wanting to give him something to live for, like his father did for him after the accident, he and Lilah get married in his father's room and he tells him about the baby. Learning about his son's miracle baby, gives papa Medina the courage to undergo a liver transplant.
Before the surgery, Lilah learns Carlos used the baby as a means to get his father to go through with the transplant and marry her. With the knowledge that everything as been an allusion, Lilah takes off once she learns the surgery went well.
It takes a conversation with his brother to get Carlos to realize what he's been keeping himself from realizing and telling Lilah. Seeking her out, he finally tells her he lovers her.
8 months later, Carlos is holding his 7 week old son, little Enrique, named after his father.
D2071 Mar11 Rich, Rugged and Royal #3 MD Carlos Medina knows his injuries, shot when he was escaping the rebels overthrowing his father's monarchy, made it impossible to father a child. Lilac, forces her way into the men's locker room to confront him, he has avoided her for almost three months, with the news she is pregnant with his child. He is shocked, but agrees to viability testing, to prove her wrong. Big shock when it turns out it is possible! Good story with the brothers and their partners gathering on the island the men were raised on. The PR catastrophe forced them to the island and face their father's health issue and Carlos making their father accept the help of his youngest son.
Carlos is your typical annoying Harlequin alpha. He's selfish, always jumps to conclusion too soon and making assumption all the time. Plus he refuse to admit his feeling even though he blatantly hurt the heroine. Sounds familiar? Yep.
But it's been a while since I read this kind of story and so far I enjoyed it. I didn't know that this is book 3. Look forward to read the previous installment of the series.
The beginning of story is amused me, the heroine walk in to the shower room for man, because the hero is avoided her after they making love 2 months ago. The heroine (Lilah) must do this act because she already desperate to find the why to say that she is pregnant, but after she say that she pregnant, the hero (Carlos) not trust that it's his child, and the worse is Lilah found that Carlos is dating with other woman.
Why Carlos not trust that he will be a father? because some years ago his doctor say that he can not possibly to be a father, but after Lilah announcement, he perform the sperm count test, and the result is he can be a father, although slim chance.
Carlos make Lilah go with him to his vacation home, they get to know each other when they together, and Carlos found that he really care about Lilah and not wanna Lilah to out of his hand, so he proposed but Lilah reject it because she not wanna Carlos marriage her only for the baby.
Carlos got call from her brother that they father is sick, and when he see his father is not have a spirit to keep survive after the operation, Carlos say that he will be a father, so it make his father have a new spirit to see his grandchild. Lilah found that the reason for all Carlos doing is for his father shake, so Lilah go from the hospital. When Carlos found out that Lilah go, he feel desperate and his brother cheer him up, and finally he realize that he must say his feeling to Lilah so he seeking her out, and both of them say what they each other feel and in the epilog is they have son.

I loved this story. Carlos and Lilah's story was a treat to read. I love how Carlos slowly accepted the fact that he was to become a father even though he was certain he could not have children. Lilah was a strong heroine who used understanding and care to ease Carlos's past from him. I will go back and read his brother's stories.
I generally love anything Catherine Mann writes, but for some reason I love her Desires most. It's where she most concentrates on romance and passion, and that's her strongest asset in my opinion. This was a very enjoyable, emotional read. Recommended!
Always nice to have a strong heroine to deal with the hero. Carlos isn't arrogant and annoying either. Plot stayed in focus and there was quite some redundancy between the 3 books.
Would have been nice to get some character growth or more insight but considering how short the book is....
