I loved the movie when it came out and I love the book more. It's a story of a firefighter family, a mystery, and tale of the relationships between brothers. This movie novelization is in many ways superior to the movie with extra details and characterization thrown in.
Set in the culture of firefighters. One is starting fires and the inspector searches for the instigator. Meanwhile two brothers compete against each other to be the best.
I am in awe of the men who put their lives on the line and are the heroes who risk all to save others. This book is the story of those men at the fires and also the life when they are not.
Backdraft is a static condition in which a fire has consumed all.its oxygen and will not go anywhere until the supply is replenished. Brian quit the fire academy first time round but wanted another chance. Only his father being a firefighter hero allowed him a second chance. Haunted by his father's death he is pulled, gravitated towards the firefighter job. Late for his first day, Brian's first fire moves with intensity, swaying, alive, watching it move, it sends shivers down his spine, the heat, the falling, it should burn you alive. Brian saves a paramedic dummy and is ridiculed by his team and most importantly his firefighter brother. Huge rivalry with Stephen his brother will open deep wounds. Loved this movie the first time it came out and wanted to be a firefighter but am too scared of fire. Kurt Russell rocks
