Several of the recipes in this book have been plagiarized from the backs of packages of commonly available prepackaged ingredients. For example, the "Best of Show" Chocolate Cake on p. 105, attributed to Diane Morrison of Flemington, NJ, is actually the recipe of Hershey's Perfectly Chocolate Cake (formerly Hershey's One-Bowl Chocolate Cake) that has been on the back of containers of Hershey's Baking Cocoa since the 1950s. I recognized it immediately because this is the cake I make when I don't have time to make anything else, so I've made it about 100 times over the last 20 years. But I would never claim it as my own recipe or enter it in a cooking competition as my own creation because it isn't.

Fun reading about all the fairs related to these recipes. The recipes look good, many were pretty simple foods but with good combinations of flavorful ingredients. I'm definitely gonna try the peanut brittle, Brown Mountain Pecan Cake, and Black Walnut Toffee Bars.
