Haven't read this book for over forty years. It is well written and certainly deepened & broadened my understanding of the zeitgeist, or spirit of the age, of this era of British history, spanning from approximately the death of Cromwell to the French and American Revolutions and the age of romanticism. An age of exuberance indeed!
