A Scot's Retribution The MacLomain: End of an Era #5 Sky Purington ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Laird Merek MacLeod was a fianna warrior, and can now be considered a noble warrior. There is a broun waiting for him and he hopes it will be beautiful Chara the unicorn/girl he has been seeing all his life in his dreams. He needs to find his broun and ignite the power of the claddagh ring, but it's a little hard to do that when he's possessed by the Irish brotherhood and they can be quite evil at times. They are very intent on ending the MacLomain's lineage and Merek knows that it can be dark and very sinister. What happens next is a whirlwind adventure worthy of more then five stars.
Incredible!! This is the Epic conclusion of the entire MacLomain Series and it will knock your socks off. Sky Purington you just blew my mind. I couldn't put this book down. All I could do was read slowly and savour every syllable as if it were my last. I can't stop thinking about this book. I had to sleep on this and I don't think anything I write will be able to do this book any justice. That is how good this story is. The characters feel like old friends. I felt like I was privy to most of their secrets, yet there was always something more, something I knew I should have known, but was just outside my grasp. Then it would slap me upside the head and make me giggle. I don't want to say too much because it would spoil the book for you, but if you love the MacLomain's like I do you need to read this. I don't know how Ms. Purington was able to keep everything straight, but she did and the journey was amazing. To me this wasn't the end. This is a beginning and if it is what I think it's going to be then you'll want to hold on to your chair because we will be in for one wild ride.
I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review and purchased the published addition.
There are two Claddagh rings left and one MacLomain, bound together by magic the lives of Marek and his Broun started long ago in dreams when they were both just children. The last couple needed to reunite and save the MacLomain clan, can they overcome the past that tore them apart and save their ancestors and themselves?
This story is about two people who have been in love since they were children in two life times coming together to take a journey of rediscovery. They need to remember their past in order to save their future. Unlike many stories with a HEA Marek and Chara know they are meant to be together, their love is strong, allowing them to focus on finding their truths and igniting their ring without all the angst of falling in love. Along the way we are taken on a side trip or two to spend time with old friends and see the saga of the MacLomains come full circle with some really interesting little twists.
When I knew this was going to be the last story in the MacLomain/Broun series I was sad, I thought this was going to be an epic tear jerker to read, that’s not what I found this story to be however. While it has all the action of good overcoming evil, in the end I found this to be a gentle good-bye to the clan as we leave them to their lives. I guess I’m hoping the next generation already on its way will find their true loves without having to fight the battles their ancestors did, maybe they have earned some peace. Of course it might just be I don’t really believe it’s the end…….Guess we’ll have to stay tuned to find out.
I haven’t read the previous books in the series and must admit that was a mistake. I was so lost in the beginning, which is my own fault.
I volunteered to get ARC copy, didn’t read the blurb because I enjoy this author and knew the book would be exceptional. Little did I known this author has an amazing imagination for this material. You certainly have to suspend belief which was so entertaining.
There are so many elements to this story that my review can’t do it justice. You want to have quiet time because you will need to concentrate on all the magically things going on. The characters came to life and you could feel in your bones the love of the character’s.
The Prologue was touching and I realized when I finished this story, that is how people who have read the whole series will feel about this ending. I felt like that only having read this one.
There is passionate lovemaking heat level 4+ out of 5. The ending is bittersweet mixed with happiness and sadness. But the part that was sad we realize will be handled in a new series coming out in 2021-yea.
No cheating, HEA, different kind of romance but filled with love, and steam. All opinions are my own and freely given. (ljb).
This series, these characters, the storylines, words escape me to properly describe how truly amazing they were to read. I'm sad and happy at the same time finishing this series. Sad because it was more than a book but an escape, time traveled into the story and characters. I became a part of the book, a part of the MacLomain/Broun family. Happy because I had finally had the complete story. All the puzzle pieces finally put together. My review does not do these books justice, just know they are more than books and stories. These books will be something you'll think back on , re-read and fall in love with the people , the time and country that is brilliant then and now! Magic, true love over many life times, time travel, good vs. evil, Scotland folklore, druids, fairies, dragons, witches, wizards, God's and demi-goddess make up a series you'll fall in love with and want to read over and over again! Thank you Sky Purington for giving me hours of enjoyment and escape.💚🍀
The final book in this long series and what an epic ending. The end of Scotland's safety is coming, and the darkness is closing in. After the previous couples, its Marek and Chara's turn now to be confronted with their past and relive their previous lives. Is Marek indeed the traitor he thinks he is, or was it all a disguise to save his true love. Couples that have fought similar battles through the different centuries will pass by, and how the MacLomain magic once started is revealed. I have followed this series from the start and it just was one epic journey. I also remember all the main characters and their struggles to find their destined loves, which usually doesn't happen. I feel sad it ends with this book but are please to read there will be more of the Vikings, the Hamiltons and MacLeods. I can also say I'm proud to be Scottish and am convinced there is magic to be found here. Thank you, Sky for all these hours of reading pleasure and whatever comes up next from your amazing writing skills will find its way to my kindle.
I took my time reading A Scot's Retribution knowing this was the last MacLomain book was bittersweet. It has become one of my most favorite series ever. Sky does a beautiful job blending historical people and events with fiction. This book will make you laugh and cry as events unfold and we find out what started the Broun/MacLomain connection.
Sky wrapped up the series with Marek and Chara who we find out were the beginning of things so it was very fitting. The sacrifices they made in a previous life all for true love.
Although I am sad to see The MacLomain Series come to an end, the author did an awesome job with this book, and the closing of the series.
Now, I'll just have to go back to the beginning and re-read the whole series. Each book of The MacLomain Series can stand alone, but who would want to read just one?! It's like Lays potato chips ... you can't eat (or read) just one.
Absolutely love this series and all the generations it takes me through.
