I was fine existing on copious amounts of chocolate. But, thanks to Fenris’s less than helpful intervention, Mom’s building a nightclub named “Man-beef Buffet.” My hell is only beginning. Hounded by the Academy's guidance counselor, smothered by her mother, and harassed by a perverted brownie, Eliana’s patience for well-meaning help is thinning. She has more important matters on her plate. Like, dealing with the repercussions of a backfired spell while avoiding the local, hot werewolf. When something starts stalking her, Eliana decides she’s done playing by everyone else’s rules. She might be afraid to feed, but she’s far from weak. The beast pursuing her will soon feel what it’s like when the hunter becomes the hunted. Warning : Contains a starving succubus with violent reactions to sex toys, a loving mom who supports nudism, and a brownie with fertility issues. Recommended for mature teen readers and up.
I love to write! Sharing the worlds I've created is beyond amazing . Want to read a book for free? Check out my website at: http://melissahaag.com/free-ebook/
It's been a while since I read Megan's trilogy and it's even been a while since I read the first book in this new trilogy, but as soon as the paperback of this book was available I pressed order, because I just had to have it. This is the series that made me realize that I love Succubi incredibly much and especially the endless potential for writing an interesting story starring them. Even though at times it's a little sickening. (I BLAME YOU PIEPEN!)
Even though this book doesn't really have much of a captivating plot, it's still never boring. Yes, there is a mystery going on, but if I look back on this second book, I don't get the feeling we got any further when it comes to that mystery at all. But, the author explains in her author note at the very end why that is. This book is not about the mystery. It's about Eliana and Fenris, it's about their bond and it's about their struggles with their natures.
I have to admit that there are moments where I wonder "What goes through Fenris' head? Why doesn't he just tell her what's going on?" And I wish we got to spend more time in his head, apart from the very short epilogue. I'm pretty sure he will explain everything at the very end (I'm very sure Eliana will totally make him), but sometimes as a reader it's hard to follow what he's waiting for. Although I guess it's partly because he can't look into Eliana's head. Like we can.
I assume he thinks, and so do many more people, that Eliana isn't ready for a more sexual relationship with anyone. But I'm not entirely sure if that's the case. I get the feeling she associates sex with being a monster and THAT'S the real problem. However, her struggles are amazing to watch. Usually we have heroines embracing their supernatural side easily. A little too easily maybe. But that's for sure not the case here. It's a constant fight and therefore a constant push and pull.
And I'm really excited to read the last book, because after all this pushing and pulling the ending will be very very very satisfying.
I really love the books set in this world. This author writes the perfect mix of adventure and romance. Eliana is a wonderful character and her chemistry with Fenris is perfect!! This is a fun read and I’m looking forward to more. 5 stars.
The Hunt by Melissa Haag a fantastic five-star read. This is number two in the By Kiss and Claws series and I adored the Howl, but the Hunt just brought something extra to it, do read them both as you will get the most out of them, and you will love every moment. This has everything in it, it will suck you in and suck you in hard. You will not be able to help yourself falling in love with Eliana, for the madness and the craziness in the best way possible. But Eliana is not the only one you will love, this story is filled with great characters and you will adore this series, its worth every minute of time you spend reading it, and it will stay with you many more. Bring on number three!!
The Hunt is the second book in the By Kiss and Claw series. There will be spoilers from the first book, The Howl, consider yourself warn…Welcome to Utirra…where being yourself is supposed to be accepted. Even if you are an alpha heir who doesn’t want a mate, or a succubus who would rather starve than feed. Ashlyn is still missing and Eliana is desperate to find her. Her momma is still in town and she is desperate for Eliana to embrace her nature. With all these well-meaning adults, it is a wonder who Eliana turned out to be so mature.
Being a succubus must be hard. Being a succubus who was raised with the notion that her very existence is wrong makes it even harder. Eliana avoids feeding, her avoidance has a lot to do with her reluctance to act in her very nature. After meeting her father, I can 110% see why she is literally starving herself. I mean with parents who are the polar opposites, I completely get her stance on not feed and not accepting suitors. With her powers, how can she be sure that anyone interested in her is really interested in her or just interested due to her very nature.
Heir to the alpha wolf in the community Fenris is under pressure to take a mate. So much pressure that the girls in his pack can’t truly be friends due to the competition for Fenris’ attention. Only no one has realized that since Eliana came to town, Fenris’ attention has been solely on her. He really is an amazing guy, understanding Eliana’s reluctance to feed. He takes it upon his self to find a work around. One that no one knows about not even Eliana. He positions himself to be with her often now that Megan is out of town. He conditions her to accept his hugs and his playful nature. The only question is how long will his patience last before he gives up on her.
I am so frustrated with Eliana at the end of this book. Fenris is perfect for her, and she keeps pushing him away. I can’t even. Girl! Come on…..I feel like Eliana and Fenris are mates but she won’t accept it. I get why but dang.
That ending… I don’t even know how you come back from that. It isn’t a cliffhanger more like did she really do that? I kinda hope that she has to chase Fenris in the next book because wolf shifter is pretty perfect
Don’t mind me. I’m just trying to claw-coax my computer into delivering book 3 of this series faster… A girl can hope, right?
I really do love the bond between Fenris -the local hot werewolf, and Eliana- the succubus who doesn’t want to feed. I’ve enjoyed them since meeting them in Of Fates and Furies and I love reading their story in By Kiss and Claw.
I didn’t mind that the mystery subplot wasn’t well developed because I love reading about characters and how they evolve. This instalment is focused on this specific aspect and allow us to explore more of the Fenris and Eliana’s struggles.
More often than not, I was yelling in my head for Fenris to “just tell her” what is going on but that makes the wait for book three all the more delicious. I wish I could have more access to his thoughts because it is difficult to love someone and not be able to tell them. It is difficult to love someone outside the boundaries that have been in place since the beginning of times. It makes reading this series even more delicious because I do know they will end together despite all the rules and expectations.
Speaking of delicious, even though I sometimes get mad at Eliana, I so want to hug her because she is struggling. She struggles with her identity and her basic needs. I empathized a lot with her because I am in my mid-thirties and it is just now that I’m starting to reconcile what has always been expected from me and who I actually am. It is very hard to find that balance but I’m sure she will and that is an aspect I like in this book.
I can’t wait to dive into this world again and get see their happy ending unfold.
I've wanted more of Eliana's story since we first met her at the beginning of the series, and this is where we find her coming-of-age story. She's scared of what she is and how she'll affect those she loves if she gives in to the desires of her species. She such a sweet, kind soul that the thought of her bending toward her nature, as her mother and those in charge of Uttira would like, makes her physically ill. She never wants to see her friends acting the same way she's seen some of the people her mother has fed from. But there's a possibility she won't survive if she doesn't come up with a plan.
Enter Fenris, a wolf shifter who has been a best friend to her, someone who watches her back and helps her through all of the difficult decisions she is working through. He's sexy and confident and always surrounded by the female shifters, all vying for a chance to be his mate. It's a game of avoidance and deception from beginning to end. I am enamored by the world this author has built, and all of its intricacies. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series to see how these two navigate their way to a happy ending in a way only this author can tell.
What a gripping story! The Hunt will keep you on the edge of your seat! The Hunt is book two in the By Kiss and Claw series. This series must be read in order to follow along, especially since book two picks up right where book one ends. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. I feel I can't really say too much about this book without giving anything away so instead I think it's best to tell you how it made me feel. This book tugged at my heart and took me on a ride. Sometimes I wanted to scream in anger while others I wanted to break down and cry for the characters. Sometimes I felt the frustration, but then other times I felt the hunger. Most of all, this book made me want freaking CAKE. For reals. If you want a book that can take you on that emotional roller coaster, then start this series. I cannot wait to see what Melissa has for us in the end, because boy oh boy is it going to be one heck of a ride. I'm staying buckled in until the very end! Ratings: Plot: 5/5 Character: 5/5 Heat: 5/5 Writing Style: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
I really enjoyed 'The Hunt,' I think more than I did 'The Howl.' I love the dynamics Eliana has with her mom and Fenris. They really care about her. Eliana is so scared and stubborn to let anyone in. I really like Fenris and how he's helping guide Eliana into someone who can accept herself. There's a lot that happened in this book that i wanted 'The Hunt' to be longer. I really enjoyed the side storylines in the book. Awesome world building. I loved hearing Piepens drama but cant stand him sometimes. 🤷♀️ I also want to learn more about Elbner and what his deal is. The next book can't come soon enough. I'm really looking forward to what Melissa has in store for Uttria. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am leaving a review.
That poor Fenris. It's so difficult to be in love with Elina and never be able to tell her, because she's never going to believe it's true. She may be his mate, but Elina is convinced the only way anyone is ever interested in her is beacuse she's entralled them. I loved the Brownie Drama thrown in with unknown parenthood and betrayal. Not to mention the skunly lust from Piepen. The grumpy shoe throwing, house fixing, Elbner is again a very enjoyable character. I'm worried about Ash, but hey if she's getting her own series, she's got to be okay. Which brings us back to the Cake dreaming succubus and her very patient werewolf. Ah. Me. Can't wait to read more about how they actually get together in The Hunger.
Eliana struggles because she hates what she is. Her journey made me think about how I face similar struggles when I do things that I dislike. But this is so different. It's an important issue for teenagers and adults alike to consider, and Haag handles it with grace and care. WARNING: I would not feel comfortable recommending this book to most teenage readers. While it isn't graphic in an erotic sense, the images it gives are highly sexual and aren't meant for someone who doesn't understand the "good" side of sexuality.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The Hunt picks up directly after The Howl where Eliana realizes that her mother has just seen her in the same bed as Fenris, and that moment sets the story up with some brownie drama sprinkled in. Adira continues to be overbearing and decides to give Eliana exactly what a succubus needs and wants. Which gives us wonderful entertainment and smexy moments. I can't wait to see what The Hunger brings.
I'm torn about this book. I feel much about this one as I did about the first. I LOVE Eliana and Fenris (why I read the second) and their unique characters, chemistry, and struggles each of them have. I really enjoyed them and their overall story. However. Piepen is just a bit much for my taste. He's just a little too over sexual and too crass for my personal tastes.
Fenris's dad is acting like a dick. With Megan still gone Fenris will always b around 2 help her with anything possible. She's beyond sick and tired of a lot of adults thinking they can tell her what 2 do and try 2 control everything about herself. He's keeping a big secret but he doesn't want 2 reveal it 2 soon. Her mom is finally coming 2 terms about how her daughter is and how she feels about herself and family dynamics. I sooooo can't wait 4 the next one asap!!
Oh Fenris! i love you! i wish Eliana could see you the way i see you! 😅 She is so scared of the possibilities that she refuses to give Fenris a try and im dying 😭 This book has it all! from giggles to straight up laughing out loud to action to swoony and so much supernatural shenanigans!!! must read in order to understand! #FenrisIsmyValentine
Wow! That is seriously the only thing I can say! This book was amazing. Just like the first book I had the hardest time putting it down. I love Fernis and how he is always there for Eliana even when she doesn’t know he is. I love seeing there relationship grow in this book. So many ups and downs. I seriously can’t get enough of them and can’t wait to find out what happens next!
OMG!!! Could this get any better? Emphatically no! The characters, the plot, the ecstatic fever pitch of drama and suspense combine to create an absolute masterpiece! And the ending will leave you Hungering for the last installment. The wait will be painful but totally worth it.
I meant to make dinner. I meant to do laundry. I meant to walk the dog. I did none of these things, but I did finish this book in one day. I love Melissa Haag, I love all of the worlds she writes about, & I especially love the characters and their interactions. I canNOT wait for Eliana to let loose.
Favorite Quote: “I get that you like to push boundaries, but I can’t afford to lose any more friends because of my lack of good judgment.” He pulled back and cupped my face, his expression intensely serious. “You will never lose me, Eliana. No matter what you say…no matter what you do…I will always be here for you.”
I have been waiting for this book for over a year and did not disappoint. I loved the characters, I find their individually very diverse. I love Eliana and Fenris, they are such a cute couple. I really need the last book as I hope Fenris will get through to Eliana once and for all.
Couldn't put it down, this was one of those books that took me into 3am reading. Already eager for the next installment and (I guess) the finale of the series. Hope we don't have to wait as long as we did for this one.
July 6 is so far away! I can’t wait to see when Eliana finally snaps and brings the council to their knees! Not to mention her finally getting her happily ever after!
Great read! I love Fenris. He cares for Eliana so much. I however became somewhat frustrated with Eliana and her reluctance to accept her true nature. Fenris is so understanding and patient with her. I can't wait for the next one!!
She’s too much much to much hung up on not feeding. Instead of trying to see what her limits are with other peeps she just assumes and we all know what assuming makes ya.
Yo, that ending tho! But about time Eliana started taking charge and she's a little too late to the "I've been feeding on Fenris all along and he's fine party"

Another amazing book by Melissa Haag. “The Hunt” is outstanding and draws you into the story. Author, Melissa Haag does an amazing job with her writing. She is one of those authors where you are suck into the story as if you are the main character. The dynamic between Eliana and Fenris is off the charts. Throughout the story, you as the reader really gain insight on both characters, Eliana and Fenris. Supporting characters are hilarious, supportive, trouble making, and overall add so much to the story. I really enjoyed this story and I’m so excited for book three.
