In this best-selling, heartwarming tale, a lonely older man takes home a pet-shop kitten that no one else wants. It doesn’t take long for the pair to warm up to each other, and soon, they’re inseparable. Told through the eyes of both the man and his cat, this sweet and hilarious story is a balm for the soul!

Though he still can't perform on stage, Kanda challenges himself with street piano. He never imagined his audience would include his former teacher, Margarethe Dressel. The ever-present Fukumaru is ready to win new hearts—luckily, Kanda's mentor is a fellow cat lover! Then, Geoffroy becomes Kuju's piano teacher, but the lesson gets off to a rocky start.

This one’s undeniably cheesy, and I don’t mind one bit.

We finally get to meet Kanda’s mysterious mentor, and while the whole thing unfolds with a fair amount of absurdity, it still manages to land with warmth and heart.

I also loved how Geoffroy’s shift in attitude was portrayed. His arc reminds you how powerful a bit of kindness can be, how it nudges even the most rigid characters into something softer.

Read this if you’re in need of a little emotional pick-me-up or if your faith in humanity is running low. It’s sweet, a little silly, and just sincere enough to sneak up on your feelings when you least expect it.

This is okay.

This series is becoming less and less about Kanda and his relationship with Fukumaru. While I know their relationship helped blossom other relationships, it’s a bummer that the main relationship for this series is getting put on the back burner.

This volume had so much going on. It was a bit much.

I do plan to read the next volume but depending on how the next volume goes, I may drop the series altogether.

We meet a formidable lady in this volume…Mr Kanda’s teacher! She puts him through hell…I mean, training. It looks like he’s starting to recover. And then…Fukumaru’s big bro appears, jaded and angry at the world. Where will this go?

It was pretty sweet because it showed how events viewed from two different perspectives could be so different. Kanda felt his teacher always helped him and he couldn’t help her, but she felt he saved her many times.

A bit disjointed, I think. Some things about Kanda's teacher, LOTS of cats, a new apprentice for said teacher, Mr. Geoffrey, and more. I mean, I'm OK with several characters, but this just felt like too much too fast.

The manga is really focusing more on Kanda and piano than the cats lately, but at least this volume had more of the cats than the previous one.

I really wasn't a fan of the teacher side plot. Excited to see what happens with the new cat though!

This was really sweet! I teared up a bit. As usual, people come together due to their love of music and cats. Fukumaru’s story progresses a bit in this volume, too.

*spoilers ahead*
Fukumaru’s sister has been in his life again for a while, and to find out that the stray cat that’s all beaten up outside is his brother! Did we already know that? I can’t remember. If we did, then I’m glad Fukumaru is talking to him.

A Man and His Cat always has heartfelt moments that seem sad, but they get resolved pretty quickly. I’m excited for the brother to be in the story more. He’s so cute!
