Major Glad, Major Dizzy takes you on a journey through the twentieth century and into the twenty-first through the eyes of toy soldiers Major Glad and Major Dizzy, who spend most of it under the floorboards of the house in which they were once played with. The Majors thoughts and feelings are brilliantly brought to life by the author, and the photographic illustrations help children to visualise the story. This could be used for year two as a class text or for guided reading with older age groups, who can appreciate the changes happening as time passes.
Absolutely love this book for EYFS/KS1. We've used this in conjunction with our topic around growing up, and basic timelines. This book is also a good launching point to discuss toys and their changes throughout history as Major Glad and Major Dizzy are very old at the end, and the children have modern toys as well.
