Corduroy
Corduroy Lost and Found
Corduroy the beloved bear slips out very early one morning to get a birthday present for Lisa. He spies what he thinks is a yellow balloon up in the sky, thinking that would be perfect for her.
But when the sun rises, the balloon (really the full moon) disappears. And now Corduroy is lost. Lisa finds him, but not before Corduroy succeeds in getting just the right gift - a lollipop as yellow and round as the moon.
This brand-new Corduroy picture book is written in the whimsical style of Don Freeman and illustrated in the exact scratchboard technique he used to create Corduroy and A Pocket for Corduroy.

As a child I loved to draw-but I also loved books, especially picture books. I still remember certain illustrations, covers and bindings from books that were read to me as a young girl.
I’ve lived in many places: I grew up in Wantagh on Long Island, N.Y., graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts and attended St. Lawrence University in upstate New York.
At the University of Wisconsin in Madison, I majored in fine art and learned how to design, print and bind handmade books. I also took courses in Children’s Literature. The combination of form and content in the picture book format fascinated me and after graduation I headed for NYC where I worked for 17 years in children’s book publishing as a designer and art director. But I didn’t begin to write until I had children of my own.
My books have been published in many countries and in many different languages. You can find my books in the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Africa and Germany. Some of my books have been translated into German, French, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Afrikaans, Xhosa, Tswana, Sesotho, and Zulu!

My son is so into the original corduroy books that his sister picked this up for him last weekend. He now wants to read it all the time, I think because it was a gift from big sister. Not as good as the originals in my opinion, but still fun and interesting for a preschooler, like the sequence about Corduroy mistaking the moon for a giant lollipop, the perfect birthday present for his friend/owner Lisa, the first time he sees it.

Though it’s not one of the originals, it fits in very well with the Corduroy series. A sweet story in which Corduroy gets lost while trying to catch the moon for Lisa, thinking it’s a balloon.

Am I too old to say I love Corduroy. He's the most caring, sweet little bear ... Corduroy and A Pocket for Corduroy were two of my boys' favourites when they were little. Corduroy Lost and Found is another delightful story about this intrepid little bear.
Corduroy loves his best friend Lisa and Lisa loves Corduroy. I adore Corduroy's innocence and sense of wonder and my boys always delighted in Corduroy'smisadventures, mishaps, adventures. It's a sweet story about friendship, with much the same charm as the original books by Don Freeman and the whimsical illustrations will enchant both children and adults.
I had a bear best friend as a child, the teddy that I've had since I was born and boy has that bear had some adventures (much like Corduroy.) We lived in Papua New Guinea for a few years when I was little and Ted dropped from my stroller, was picked up by a dog and a month or two later was found in a fence. 46 years on, my Ted is still with me, a little moth-eaten and worse for wear but still much loved ... so Corduroy Lost and Found really resonated with me.

Whoa, maybe it's just because I'm an adult. But I'm having a little trouble wrapping my head around the starting premise of this cute picture book:
1. Corduroy, a stuffed animal, a kind of toy, belongs to Lisa.
2. This bear learns that Lisa is having a birthday.
3. Corduroy sweetly believes that he must buy her a birthday present.
4. But hold on, he's already her toy. He's already her present.
5. Guess you have to bea kid -- or just somebody way smarter than me -- to understand this.
NOW THIS PART I UNDERSTAND: CORDUROY WANTS TO GIVE HIS LITTLE GIRL THE MOON
Sure. Wy not?
Many tiny tot-sized adventures follow, but what matters most is the happy ending.
I'll bet a ton of children and their parents would love this book. And maybe understand it better than I could today.

Corduroy Lost and Found written by B.G. Hennessy and illustrated by Jody Wheeler is a sweet picture book based on the characters of Don Freeman’s beloved Corduroy. When Corduroy realizes it’s Lisa’s birthday, he heads out to find her the perfect gift. Mistaking the full moon for a balloon, he attempts to get it for Lisa but when the sun comes up, Corduroy is lost. Will he get a gift for Lisa? Will he find his way home? Hennessy’s story has the trademark style of Freeman’s original story and artwork is also done in Freeman’s manner of using the scratchboard technique. Corduroy Lost and Found is a must have for those who adore the original, charming Corduroy picture books. It’s also a great addition to a teddy bear story time.

Corduroy Lost and Found by B.G. Hennessy is an adorable bear adventure just like the fiction animal adventures had by the character created by Don Freeman. It is great to see Corduroy continue on with new artists! In this children’s classic story, Corduroy finds out that Lisa’s birthday is coming and he wants to find the perfect gift for her. But on the way he gets lost. With the help of new friends, Lisa finds him, which is she really wanted all along. This precious family story is the perfect addition to story time. The illustrations by Jody Wheeler really bring this fantasy picture book to life.

In Corduroy Lost and Found, Corduroy goes on an adventure to find Lisa a birthday present. The language is practical including words to describe apartments, elevators, etc. The author and illustrator have provide concrete setting described clearly in the text and shown in the pictures.
What I find most special about this book is the use of spanish dialogue between two bilingual characters. It's so important that all readers feel their languages are valued. This is a perfect example of how to incorporate other languages in a picture books in a natural way.

Love these Corduroy books. They are endearing with an old-fashioned charm. It's nice for kids to reenvision our world through the eyes of the stuffed bear who thinks the moon is a balloon and the elevator is a rocket ship. The books truly inspire imaginative thinking.

Thank you for the code switch into Spanish. Lisa would totally be bilingual. This is great for identity in bilingual readers and gives even monolingual adults the opportunity to model and support being bilingual. Very pleasantly surprised!
