An interesting plot, although a little confused at times

Overall this was an interesting book, the power dynamics with the kingdoms are fun to read and the main character and the love interest are good characters. However I wouldn't say this was one of its kind, the plot is quite predictable and the way in which it has been organised got me confused a little at times. Might be reading book 2

My first book by this author. It wasn't bad at all. I enjoyed seeing the FMC go from being all patriotic to being vengeful when she discovered all the lies she's being told. I am curious to see what/who she is. I wish there was a POV from the MMC.

I will be checking out her other books.

Bright Wicked is the first book in the new adult fantasy romance Bright Wicked series by Everly Frost. This is my first book that I have had the pleasure of reading from Everly Frost, but it will not be my last. I fell in love with her characters, her world building and her writing style so much, I now want to binge read all of her series. I am so excited to have found Bright Wicked and Everly Frost because not only did I find a new series that I am in love with, but I think I might have found a new favorite author! If you are a fan of fantasy romances that feature Fae, Bright Wicked is a book that you will love! I know I did!

In Bright Wicked, we meet out main character Aura, who is the Queen’s champion- the highest ranked fighter in the land! She is higher than the heads of the Queen’s day guard and night guard. The world in Bright Wicked is such a cool set up. I have read a lot of fae stories (they are my favorite) so I have seen a lot of fantasy worlds with the different courts, but I haven’t seen any quite like Bright Wicked. Here the fae either have day powers of the seasons, or nighttime based powers, but they all live under one court, which was a unique concept. All fae live in the Bright. Their enemies are divided by the deadly glitter fields, and they are called the Fell. Our story starts with Aura patrolling the woods on the fae/fell border when she runs into a fell warrior, who turns out to be the Fell King’s champion, and the law of champions is invoked. I was so fascinated by the law of champions the more I learned about it. Everly Frost does such a fantastic job with her descriptions, the land of Bright came to life before my eyes. The law of champions gives Aura and Nathaniel 3 days to defeat one another on behalf of their sovereign ruler.

I am so intrigued by the mysterious Nathaniel. I cannot wait to get to know him and discover more of his secrets in the next book. Bright Wicked takes place over the course of Day 1 of the Champion curse. Book 2 over day 2 and book 3 over the final day. I love this set up but only because it is so well done. Nothing about Bright Wicked felt rushed at all. Honestly I am so surprised that Everly Frost managed to cram in as much action and detail as she in the span of this book and in the span of one day without sacrificing any of the details of the events, world or characters. This book was fantastically done. I am so in love with Aura, Nathaniel and their Thunderbird companions. I hope we get to see more of Treble and the other thunderbirds in the next book!

The plot of Bright Wicked was so intriguing to me. I loved unwinding everything right along side of Aura. Aura is such a powerful and special fae. I love the brightness of her heart and of her powers. She is one of the most rare type of fae- she wields starlight, and it can be super powerful and deadly. I can’t wait to learn more about her and her glow in the next installment. Heck I am just super anxious to continue on reading this series. I am in love with the book, the world and the characters! This is one of my favorite fantasy romances of 2020, and I think it is a great series to check out if you are a fan of fantasy romances that feature Fae. It is an excellent story!

Everly frost name sounds familiar to me but I don't remember that time, I didn't realize that I had read 3 series now made by her. Now, I'll remember it.

She has a way in telling her story that makes me curious for more. I enjoyed every seconds of it. This book is too short for me.

I can't believe that what I read in this book all happened in the space of one day and night! Too much awesomeness went down and happened...so much changed, so many lies uncovered. Everly has done it again. Not that I'm surprised by that. I'm used to the way her books come into my life with a massive bang and oh how this one did just that. If there was just one word I could use it would probably be

But since my reviews are not known for their shortness (hello does rambles not give it away?)...So I'll give you plenty more words haha. From the very beginning I was hooked, I never wanted to put the book down but my body demanded its say and well my health made me take my time with it, which was both good and also very torturous.

I was a little worried I wouldn't be finished in time or be able to review before the release of the book but it looks like I'm still on track. Thank goodness for the organised Everly who had this book to us with ample time to read and review! Now speaking of release, you may be wondering when that is...and you don't have too much longer to wait. It releases the 10th April so be sure to go and preorder yourself a copy. You can find this glorious gem right HERE. Do yourself a favour and get it. You'll def regret it if you don't. So no regrets people...

I can never really find enough words to truly express what Everly always stirs and achieves with her writing, but if you have read anything by her I'm sure you should at least understand a little of what I'm meaning. And if not

Now a little about the story.... we are brought into a world where there is the light and the dark...but remember, not all that reside in the light are good and not all those in darkness are bad. It's a world that is separated, one that the light or those called Bright (Fae) fight those that are called the Fell (the dark - I could tell you who they are but I leave that for you to work out).

Now I'm going to introduce the two main characters...that are about to upheave the world as they know it. We have Aura the Queen's Champion, the one that commands basically all the guards

Who has made it her life's mission to protecting the queen...and she goes out for a ride on her loyal as heck Thunderbird, along with some of the Day guards...when she notices a rustle in the trees below. So being who she is she leaves the rest behind to go check it out. And low and behold the man that will make you swoon like no other enters the pages. Except she doesn't know that right away...

They fight, the others come down and fight, and this Fell being (that swoon worthy and smells like comfort food (Everly's words lol) male - coz she found that out now lol) and he uses some old magic on them and well they need help fast but he's asking to see the queen first otherwise he won't save them...BUT an important piece of information before that "request" was made, Aura used her Starlight power on him and semi spoiler (I guess) she actually unbeknownst binds using the old magic which kinda connects them and not in a good way. Long story short the Law of The Champions is invoked and they have to fight to the death on the third day or they toast.

But this guy Nathaniel, he actually stirs something in Aura that she never has felt before...oh and did I mention he makes her glow?! Like a legit star. Goes hand in hand with her power lol. Anywho, nobody is too happy that she brought an enemy into their lands and some are already seeing her as a traitor.

Basically expect that from this point on it's all trouble and games being played by mainly the Queen Imatra. But lucky for us, Aura has worked alongside her since she was very young so if anyone can pick up something, she can.

But anyways, once this Challenge has been issued Aura and Nathaniel practically have to eat, sleep and breathe with each other it's all part of the law and the magic demands that they know each other to their core...and within a short time Aura's eyes are opened that not all has been as it seems in her land. You see there is this I'm going to call it a blight in the lands and basically its killing people. And the one person that can heal it is someone that could be killed very soon.

And that's all I'm saying coz otherwise no amount of that precious duct tape will help.

All you need to know is that the characters and story development is INCREDIBLY well done and has been oh so perfectly constructed.

You're going to love, love, love it.

The characters within this story were amazing and I fell instantly Head. Over. Heels. Within first description of Nathaniel. I couldn't help it. He smelt like CARAMEL! Yum! This has got to be his secret weapon - although not so secret since we can smell it haha.

"He smells like burned caramel, a startling scent that dulls my senses and confuses my fighting instincts. Curse the stars. He smells like comfort food. With a strong dash of bravery smothered in determination."

But then as you get to know his character and the fact that although can't always tell her everything, never once does he lie to her.

So if you want to get lost in this world, you know what to do...and since I'm guessing with a lot of what's happening out in the world at the moment, it'd be giving you ample opportunity to escape into the world of books...what perfect time than now to escape into this world.

Yes, this book was given to me as an ARC but as always this is my true and very real review coming to you live from my bedroom, well I'm typing it while alive?

Thank you as always to my beautiful and amazing friend for yet another book that I didn't realise I was missing. You write such amazing stories that truly impact your readers. <3 I seriously can't wait to see what you have in store for us next in Radiant Fierce.

Don't forget guys I also have a blog, where you can follow all my rambles. Check it out: Read, Ramble, Repeat

Anyways, that's all I have for now.

Happy Readings My Nerdy Friends.

A little about the story. The land which Aura Lucidia lives in is broken into two sides...the light and the dark. Aura's people, the Fae, live in the bright side. Their Sworn enemies, the Fell, live on the dark side. Aura, who controls starlight, is the Queen's Champion.

One fateful day, Aura is on patrol with the other fae, known as the Bright Ones. She stumbles upon the Fell King's champion, Nithaniel Shield. Nithaniel is nothing like the other Fell she has battled while protecting the border. Swearing to destroy each other no matter what, they accidentally invoke an old law, the law of champions. The law of champions states that in three days time, there must be a fight between the two champions. If a champion refuses to fight, they will die within three days. The fight must be to the death.

Will Aura unravel the secrets or will the secrets unravel her? Who is really her enemy? Who can she trust? Aura is about to find out that not all bright things are good. Can she work with Nithaniel to break the curse before their three days are up? What are the agendas of her Queen and her supposed enemy, Nithaniel?

How do I feel about this one? So much happens in such a small window of time. I loved it! It is mesmerizing and I really didn't want to put it down! There is plenty of action and intrigue as well as romance. The romance feels truly genuine. I would definitely recommend picking this one up!

***I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.***

I was so unsure if I was going to really enjoy this book as the paranormal type was way out of my usual zone. I am so happy I decided to pick up this book! I devoured it in one night and did not want to put it down! I was so captivated by the characters and the world that I immediately wanted to read the next book in the series. Trust me... I would have if I hadn't already been up all night trying to stay awake finishing this book!

Aura is one kick ass FMC! She thought she had a perfect life and that everything was smooth, but little did she know meeting a Fell would change everything she thought she ever knew. I can't believe what we learn in this book, but it doesn't really surprise me either. I had a weird feeling the queen was not who she appears to be. Nathaniel is something else. I really thought when he was going to the queen, he would immediately attack or something. The chemistry between Aura and Nathaniel is so hot! I really can't wait to see where the next book takes them!

This world is lit 🔥

Firstly, READ THIS BOOK.

Everly, Everly, Everly, oh how you write the most amazing worlds and characters. I am never dissapointed with any of your books and Bright Wicked was another beauty that I gobbled up in one sitting.

The FMC was such a killer b!tch, I love her! Aura is a total bad@ss but also has a vulnerability to her that comes from her not knowing her past and not having anyone to trust. I love the journey that you take us on with her unfolding Everly, top notch!

The different levels of story and what you feed us was perfect. Most of the time, I didn't know until right then what was going to happen which is rare for me, so brava!

Nathaniel, what am I going to do with you? You put the tortured in broody @sshole and the secrets you hold.... I want to get them out of you in ways that are not saintly 🥵

I definitely recommend this book, seriously go and read it!

I'm just getting into Everly Frost's books, but I think this is my favorite so far. The series seems dark and brutal despite all appearances of being the perfect Bright Fae world. The main characters quickly gain depth while maintaining mystery throughout the book to keep you guessing till the end. I love when books aren't predictable and this one is anything but. I don't know what else to really say about it other than it's a quickly captivating book and I can't wait to read the next installment.

Darkness and light

I loved the magical world that has been created here. I hope light and dark find a way to live after the 3 days are up. Justice needs to be served and goodness needs to prevail. The world's Everly create are always special as are the characters, you can't help but either live them or hate them. I can't wait for the next book!

“Bright Wicked” was my first experience with Everly Frost’s writing style, and I have to say that I genuinely loved the experience! I don’t know what I was expecting when it came to Aura and Nathaniel’s story, but I was definitely intrigued from the start.

Aura Lucidia, the Queen’s Champion, is the heroine of this series as well as the complete opposite of a damsel in distress - she’s intelligent and capable, and she knows how to hold her own when she needs to. I liked her vibrant and vivacious personality, and I loved how strong she was.

Nathaniel was honestly a little harder to read, but I found myself wanting to know more about him and his people. I feel like there’s so much about this world and these characters I haven’t discovered yet, and I’m very excited to find out more. All in all, this was a wonderful start to a new fantasy romance trilogy!

This book had an explosive introduction into the very black and white world between the Fell and the Bright Ones, as well as a touch on the kind of powers and magic in this world.

First thoughts: Aura is powerful, beautiful and a deadly, loyal force. Omg, this world sounds rich and wondrous. A Queen’s Champion duel? Yes, plz. What’s this? A buff, wholesome male? That’s a big YES from me.

This was an exciting novel, my first book of Everly’s and I immediately added the rest of her series to my tbr. This book had me completely mesmerised from the beginning to the dramatic, quite frankly, traumatic ending.

Believe it or not, I wasn't going to read this book despite reading another series by this author, which I absolutely loved about assassins. I am not a fan of stories about Fae. Not my thing. However, I love all other paranormal reads. I picked up this book really expecting not to finish it. But because I think the author is very talented, I decided to try it anyways. Let me say that, I AM SO GLAD I DID. I haven't been this surprised by a book and how much I liked it since the beginning of the year when I read the first four books of the Zodiac Series. (It's by another set of talented authors) What I'm getting at is I read about eight to ten books a month and this one is at the top of my list for best read this year. I love both the main characters, and this author writes some good ones. I can't wait to get my greedy hands on the next book in this series.

Bright Wicked is the thrilling first instalment in Everley Frost’s new fae trilogy of the same name and is a passionate, action packed and romantic start to what I have no doubt is going to be a spectacular series!

When Aura Lucidia became the Queen’s Champion her only goals were to protect her monarch and kill as many of the dark Fell creatures responsible for killing her parents as possible. Having woken up as a child after their murders with no memories of who she was and her life before, Aura has given up everything to be the strongest and most feared amongst her people. Defending the Bright borders against the Fell who attempt to cross them, Aura has never faced a Fell she can’t defeat….until now. What should have been a routine patrol sees Aura face a Fell whose skill and strength rival her own. Unleashing an ancient law, Aura accidently ties her life to the Fell and now has three days before she must fight him to the death. With one forbidden touch, Aura’s whole life begins to unravel. Everything she thought she knew about her Queen and her history is in question and with the fire that burns in the Fell’s eyes beginning to get though Aura’s walls, there may be more than just their lives on the line, but their hearts too……

Everly Frost is an author I find never disappoints. Having read all of her books, I always delve into new book from her knowing I’m instore for a great tale featuring fantastic characters and wonderful storytelling----something that definitely rings true for Bright Wicked! Introducing readers to a lush and compelling world of fae, Bright Wicked features a forward moving and action packed storyline. The novel is well written and intriguing----I want to know more about the Bright and Fell worlds and discover who and what Aura truly is.

I always love anything fae and think Frost has a very promising twist on them and their various types as well as the Fell who are technically humans. The idea that humans are seen as these deformed, disgusting creatures by the Bright (fae) is really clever and I’m looking forward to learning more about the history of both races and discovering how they came to be the way they are. In this first instalment, Frost has only given us just the little teases of what could be and I need to know more.

Bright Wicked is told through the eyes of Aura, the fae Queen’s Champion and fiercest protector. I genuinely found Aura to be a likable protagonist. She’s capable and strong willed, though clearly not perfect. Found as a child with no memory of her life before the Fell destroyed her family, Aura struggles at times not knowing who she is. The help of a loving and nurturing adoptive father and brother made a big difference in her childhood, but there were moments when Aura’s vulnerability is showcased by Everly Frost and this helped make me empathetic to her. Kind and honourable already, I feel that Aura will continue to grow and develop even more as the series progresses and I’m looking forward to seeing this for myself.

As a hopeless romantic, my favourite aspect of the novel is without a doubt Aura’s connection to Nathaniel and the growing attraction between them. Bound together by ancient laws, prejudices and long accepted mindsets make their predicament difficult, but I’m enjoying seeing Everly Frost weave them together. Aura is drawn to Nathaniel and there is a chemistry between them that simmers within the pages. I love the electricity they share. The protective but cheeky nature of Nathaniel means he brings witty intelligence and capability to the story and seems to be a worthy love interest and partner to Aura. I’m looking forward to seeing them become a real couple and the slow-build of their romance grown.

Exciting and fast paced, Bright Wicked was an amazing start to this trilogy. Everly Frost clearly has a lot in store for Aura and Nathaniel and I’m very much eager to continue and see what will happen next. The ending of Bright Wicked was thrilling and I’m ready to jump straight into book two as I want more of this story and world Frost is cleverly crafting.

Aura is the Queen's Champion and she is loyal to the Queen as her top warrior who commands every fairy guard. She has no memories of her past and how her parents died. As she encounters a powerful Fell who manages to make her glow and to show her emotions, she is shocked that he is stronger than her but he does not want to hurt her despite of being enemies. Her position as the Champion is challenged by others for she has the power to command all the guards. However, she makes a mistake by invoking the Law of Champions without understanding the consequences of what she had done. Now, the old law states that she needs to fight him to death in three days but he cannot harm any Fae neither can she harm any Fell or else they will die immediately. Lies are told, secrets withhold, and unrecalled memories that she needs to solve.
The plot of the story is beautifully written and I love how it makes me want to read more as secrets
are revealed. The author brings a vivid description of the world of faeries and Fell wherein there
are action, adventure, character development, romance, and tension between the characters as they struggle to maintain their façade to the entire court.

Aura is powerful, hard working, dedicated fairy who has a rare power of Starlight that has a healing ability. Nathaniel is a strong, determined, skillful, resilience, brave, and handsome man that Aura finds attractive. I truly enjoyed reading the story as answers need to be find so that she can finally remember her forgotten memories.

If you love enemies to lovers, fae and thrilling magic, you will probably thoroughly enjoy this book. I found myself quite enjoying several aspects of this book. I liked the kingdoms, the rivalries, the Fae versus the humans (or the Fell). I liked the magic system and thought all the different kinds of Fae were really interesting. It made me want to learn more about the fae’s heritage and the story.

There were several things about this book that intrigued me. I did like the direction the characters were going, but I only wish they were a little more developed. Some things about the main character bugged me. Some parts of her personality made me not really like her as much. She was a bit immature and insecure, which is relatable but was also infuriating. I did love a lot about her personality too. I loved how strong-willed she was, and she was pretty badass. But I did find it hard at some points not to be annoyed by how immature she was at times.

There were also times in this book where I was so confused by some of the things said between Nathaniel and Aura and events that happened. I felt like some of the events were just inserted in there to create sexual tension between them. A lot of the scenes between the two characters were very odd and felt a bit immature. Especially when Nathaniel randomly did something and then the next minute back-pedalled and changed his mind completely. It was very confusing.

But that being said, I did enjoy a lot about the book too. I probably won’t continue the series because I wasn’t that invested, but I did enjoy the magic of this book and all the fun elements of fantasy. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves enemies to lovers, an amazing magic system and elements of different species of Fae all twined into one. If you’re a younger reader and love fantasy, you would probably enjoy this book more than I did. I just found it a bit too young for my tastes, but it was still an enjoyable read.

Bright Wicked is a story about power, forbidden attraction, and emotional manipulation. Aura is the Fae Queen's champion, and her one goal day in and day out other than protecting the Queen who saved her from the Fell is to track down those who murdered her parents. But when she meets a Fell more powerful than she ever imagined, Aura is shocked to discover a secret bond between them, but a hidden mistake and ancient law force her to live side by side with this sworn enemy, and then to kill him. Soon, Aura's beliefs about herself, her past, and her world begin to unravel, and worst of all, she finds she may have feelings towards the man she is duty bound to kill.
Bright Wicked was a really fun read. I loved how well-developed the world is and how colorfully Frost brings the world of the Fae to life. I loved learning more about the political structure of Bright and all the secret ways that magic and power worked in this world. I thought that the enemies to lovers thing that Aura and Nathaniel had going on was super enjoyable, and I loved how Nathaniel serves as a foil and a challenge to Aura's way of thinking. I found Imatra to be a really compelling villain and her relationship with Aura to be super interesting. Bright Wicked is a fun and colorful new take on the Fae where the romance is the slow burn my heart didn't know I needed and the betrayals are immense. The ending really sets things up to be interesting in the rest of the series which I do plan on reading in the future. Bright Wicked is a story that forces its main character, and the reader, to really think critically about their society and their place in it, and to see through the manipulations and lies those with power feed us to keep us subjected to them.

This is hard to review. I definitely enjoyed this book and I particularly love the way the reader is getting pepper sprayed with twists and turns throughout (albeit heading into something more predictable at the end).

However, it felt like a set up for book 2, as opposed to being a book 1 on its own. Lots of hints of things but nothing tangible, especially with the male MC. He's so mysterious, he could be an asshole mass murderer for all we know. I felt very little connection to this character. But obviously he's muscular and hot so..

Aura, the MC, is part awesome, part so naive that I can't make a decision on her either. She lives amongst the backstabbing Fae, is aware of it, but still makes some really questionable choices. Also, the whole her being at fault for a major plot line, where this clearly wasn't the case - not knowingly anyway - made her a bit self-sacrifice-y to me, which I low key detest in FMCs.

I liked some of the side characters though, lots of interesting people that have potential going forward.

It kind of felt like a long book, even though it really isn't, so I'm not sure whether this is pacing, action, plot itself, me,...

But then again I enjoyed this so??? 3.5 outta 5?

I really liked this book. I first read it years ago, when it first came out, but never got around to finishing the series. A reread was necessary to continue on with the rest of the series.

Bright Wicked is the first of three books, and the events of this series take place over 3 days, with book 1 being the first day and so on. It’s a very fast-paced, action packed story, and while there is an element of romance to the story, it’s very much an afterthought in terms of the plot, of this book anyway. It may change in the other books. At this point in the series, I feel like that’s a good thing.

Aura, the Queen’s Champion and the only fae with the power of starlight, unknowingly invokes old magic when fighting Nathaniel, the King’s Champion of the Fell (human), which sets off several devastating discoveries. Aura no longer knows who she is or who she can trust. The only thing she does know is she can no longer trust the Queen and the only person she can rely on is the one person bound to try and kill her at the end of the 3rd day.

Nathaniel challenges everything Aura thought she knew about her kingdom and herself, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Started this book and was immediately sucked into the story. Like always Everly Frost has done an amazing job - the story and world is unique and I devoured this book! I seriously could not put this book down once I started. I love the world building, the characters and the storyline - OMG! I can usually guess how a story goes but this fast paced book kept me turning the pages, and dropping plot twist after plot twist. The story is about a Fae warrior Aura, the Fae Queen’s Champion who has a run in with a mysterious Fell - Nathaniel, who is unlike any Fell she has ever seen. Aura has no memory of her life before she was 7 years old when she was caught in a blast. The discoveries she makes has her questioning everything and everyone in her life. As the story unfolds Aura will learn that people are not who they seemed and her enemy might just be her saviour. I received this story as an Arc but I would have bought this book regardless. I loved it and I can’t wait for the rest of the series! 🤩

Wicked Good Start to a New Series!

What do you do when everything you've ever known is changing? When the only person you know to be telling the truth is an enemy you've vowed to kill? That is just the beginning of the situation Fae Champion, Aura, is facing in this series starter.

Action packed and fast-paced this fantasy romance is an amazing read. 4.5 stars only because it took me a couple chapters to get into the story. But once it pulled me in, I couldn't stop reading! The book is so vividly written that each scene is easy to picture in your mind. The world is creative and new, like nothing I've previously read. The main characters are so well developed that I feel like I know them. And the plot is well laid out, building through all the twists and turns that keep you guessing.

Fair warning, this book ends on somewhat of a cliff-hanger and will make you crave more. Most definitely a recommended read!
