Don't miss this beautiful original digital story by Lauren Kate, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Fallen series, set in the romantic world of Teardrop, a place of devastating secrets and dark magic . . . a world where everything you love can be washed away.
Lauren Kate is the author of novels 15 novels including the FALLEN series, now a television series on AMC+. Her forthcoming angel-focused romantasy trilogy, WHITE LIGHTS, will publish in June 2026. She lives in Laurel Canyon with her family.
I'm read this as a prequel to reading Teardrop so I went into this without any knowledge of Teardrop at all as I've been purposely avoiding reading any review of it as I wanted to go into it fresh, something I didn't do when reading Lauren Kate's Fallen series.
What we have is a short prequel story about one of Teardrop's main characters Ander, he's approaching his eighteenth birthday and The Passage, a ritual where he leaves behind his childhood and becomes a Seedbearer.
With no knowledge of Teardrop this gave me a sneak-peek into the world and into Ander, who I'm sure I will learn much about during the course of reading Teardrop. You can already see he's head over heels for Eureka, the lead character in Teardrop, who he had been tasked with watching and who is going to do something really bad in the future, something involving crying. Ander doesn't want to leave his childhood behind as it would mean leaving his very strong feelings for Eureka behind him along with all vestiges of childhood, including his dog. This novella tells the story of Ander's Passage to be being a full-blown seedbearer (seedbearers have special abilities that can control the wind, I'm sure there will be more than just that though).
This novella is just an insight into the world of Teardrop but you do get a good insight into Ander's character and the goings-on in his head. You feel how he feels for Eureka and why he's not able to fully give them up during his Passage. You get a brief insight into his family and into what being a Seedbearer is exactly but I'm sure during the course of Teardrop more will be explained, or at least I hope it will. I'll be reading Teardrop next so will get to find out more about Ander and Eureka and the world they live in and what exactly Eureka is supposed to do in the future that Ander is supposed to prevent (curious... curious!) and this novella has just whetted my appetite for it, I'm very excited to get into it.
If you have read Teardrop then this novella will make a great addition to the world and is definitely worth a read in my opinion although it is hard for me to comment to much as I haven't read Teardrop myself yet but I can say I did enjoy reading Last Day Of Love myself.
This is a very short look into the life of Andre, the main male character in Teardrop. I haven’t read more than the first few pages of the full novel, but it definitely sparked my interest and I became interested in Ander, so I grabbed this short story to see what I could find out while I wait for my copy of Teardrop from the library.
It’s very interesting. I like this group of people, the Seedbearers, though I don’t like that they are so secretive and expect Andres to give up everything of his past, including his dog(!) in order to join their ranks. And I love that he really doesn’t give in like he’s supposed to. I can see a big storm coming down on all their heads because Andres doesn’t follow the rules, he doesn’t forget Eureka, and this looks like Teardrop is going to be my kind of story.
This is just a story, so it’s too short to really begin making connections, but it’s piqued my interest and I’m definitely in want of the full story. Kate is a very talented writer.
A Short prequel novella about Ander, when he turned eighteen and renouncing his feelings for Eureka from childhood, secretly admiring and stalking her here and there.
Actually what was the purpose of this short story prequel🙄. This was already specified in the Teardrop itself.
OK, she did it. Lauren Kate has finally got me. Last Day of Love is beautiful.
It gave me every feeling that Teardrop didn't. It made me fall in love with Ander, made the mysterious Seedbearers sound much more interesting, and made me see what it is about Lauren Kate that everyone loves. Now I want to finish the Fallen series. I just wasn't that impressed with it but I think Lauren's writing improved greatly with Last Day of Love. When I first read the title, I thought that the "last day" would mean Eureka's last day with her mother, but I was pleasantly surprised. Instead this novella focused solely on Ander and his "last day of love" before he must give everything up to become a Seedbearer. Ander's story is tragic and heartbreaking, especially the part about his dog. Be forewarned: you may shed some tears.
Poor Ander knows what he is destined to be, but he fights it with everything in his being. He knows what he must become, but he is desperately in love with Eureka, which makes this story so gut-wrenching. It is told from Ander's POV in the first person, which I prefer because it gives the reader a more intimate connection with the narrator. Ander describes his journey of discovering who he is and what he must do, giving us a lot more insight into who these mysterious Seedbearers are. Personally, I think this made Teardrop so much easier to understand because now we know exactly what the purpose of the Seedbearers are. I think this story should have been incorporated with Teardrop as part of the prologue; it definitely would have made the book more enjoyable. Now that the plot is making more sense, I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series.
Oh!!! I love Ander even more....This short story gives us a glimmer of the depth of Anders feelings for Eureka. It was intriguing to learn a bit about Anders strange family and the path he was meant to follow. I'm just excited that he is abundent with emotions that cannot be switched off..especially his feelings for Eureka.
This Ebook is like 26 pages i finished it in half an hour and it wasn't that important but we did get to see things from Ander's POV and also know a little about his family & the teardrop world so.. It was okay
Definitely should have read this one before I read the first book. It was very short, but it explains a lot about Ander and his family and their abilities.
It was not as good as Teardrop (which I gave a 3) and better than Waterfall (which I gave a 1), hence the 2 rating.
No puedo creerlo, honestamente. Y no estuvo mal.
Right so if you've read teardrop and waterfall by Lauren kate you'll already know all about this book and what it's about in relation to the book. If you haven't read the books then you will not understand this and there's really no point in reading it unless ur going to read the books if that makes sense. I thought this was a great little addition to the series, actually reading about the famous story and understanding it that little bit more although it's not essential you read this i quite liked getting a bit more of the backstory so I recommend it if you really enjoyed the books
Quick and straight to the point of what Ander's existence is to be. Ander has opened my eyes to the plight that he has on his hands. I go into the Teardrop series with a better view of what is expect of Ander.
A cute short story, that gives you a lot of insight on Ander. Shows you the depth of Anders feelings. As well as I'd love a short story of Anders break from his family, after reading this... As always Lauren Kate impresses me... Love everything she writes...
I liked that you got to know a little bit more about Ander and how he was raised. This book is a good companion to Teardrop and you can read it before Teardrop and you will be fine. It will help you understand Ander more.
This is the Ander's story giving some background to the Seedbearers, their origins and their task.
It was nice to have a bit of a back story. I loved to know how Ander's feelings for Eureka grew to came to be together with his strange family. I felt Ander's pain at the 'coming of age' trip he had to take and knowing he had to give up everything he loved.
I enjoyed this and the characters were completely enjoyable and relatable. Eureka and Anders love story is unique and beautiful.
Last Day of Love acts as a poignant and intimate prelude to the broader saga of the Teardrop series. It is a short novella that centers on Ander — on the eve of his eighteenth birthday, the day he must complete “The Passage,” a ritual forcing him to relinquish everything he loves in order to become a “Seedbearer.”
Through Ander’s eyes, we glimpse the weight of that decision: love, memories, attachments, even his childhood dog, are on the brink of being lost forever.
Generally speaking, I would say that Last Day of Love was unnecessary. It didn't really provide much more insight into Ander than what was in Teardrop.
Admittedly, I may have found it more 'necessary' had I read it before reading Teardrop, given its clarification on the Seedbearers. That said, I also think it just would have confused me—and clarification or not, the primary work should make sense all on its own, without 'need' for additional material.
⛰ What It's About It was about Ander's "passage" when he turned 18, where he was told to renounce his feelings and everything related to it, in exchange for eternal, youthful life and his "family's" secrets. But of course it didn't work because he still loved stupid Eureka very much.
🧠 Thoughts Such a meaningless story. Shouldn't have wasted my time with it.
