Bluey is a 6 year old Blue Heeler pup who loves to play. Her parents and teacher give her lots of time to practice, which means she’s become very good at inventing games, helping everyone choose their roles and deciding on the rules. Her favourite games are ones that involve lots of other kids and grown-ups (especially her dad) and she mainly likes to pretend she’s a grown up doing grownup things herself.

Bluey is an Australian children's television program by the Emmy award-winning Ludo Studio for ABC KIDS and is co-commissioned by ABC Children's and BBC Studios.

On first inspection, Bluey: Easter Fun! is quite a thick and sturdy sticker activity book. The iconic cartoon elements of the series have been utilised well to create a vibrant and inviting activity book that ‘pops’ in both colour and activities, making it not only easy to spot on the shelves but great fun for the family too.

The ‘how-to’ guide at the beginning of the book is a cute and quirky concept that is sure to be a big hit with younger kids eager to dive into the book. The tone used in the text is relaxed, friendly, but gentle in its reminder that you will need “an adult to help” for some of the activities.

As one might expect, the book includes colouring, join the dots, designing your own Easter egg and other creative styles of independent play, but it also asks the ‘reader’ to go outside and explore, to check off items in scavenger hunts, engage in nature play, cooking with parents, gardening, steps on how to create finger puppets and even a guide on building your own tent! Oh, and you get to make Easter hats and Easter baskets as well from templates and guides.

This vast range of activities makes Bluey: Easter Fun! the one-stop Easter holiday book in my opinion. There’s not only heaps of different things to do – outside and inside, so the weather doesn’t matter – but it’s also constantly changing, challenging and rewarding its ‘reader’ for partaking in these activities. Meaning kids are less likely to get bored with the book after half an hour of colouring-in, while also promoting family time! Which is a win-win as far as I can see.
