Pretty cover, paper so thick. The illustrations win!💯
My favourite: Gretel and Hansel (i think it was purposely put Gretel first).

I wish there had been more uplifting and empowering fiction for girls when I was younger. It's amazing to see these books available for young readers now, it can have such a positive impact on a girl's perspective. Books with stories such as these can empower the younger generations so they feel ready to face challenges in the future. Girls have been receiving the wrong messages for too long, we don't have to be the damsel, we can be the hero of our story! Jacqueline Wilson continues to be an amazing female role model, somebody I've found inspiring since I was a child.

Avontuurlijke meisjes in sprookjes zijn er maar weinig. Zo weinig dat er maar een paar in dit boek staan. Erg mooi geïllustreerd en vlot vertaald. Mijn dochter heeft ervan genoten. We beginnen gewoon opnieuw.

Vous le savez, j'adore les romans jeunesse mais j'aime aussi beaucoup les contes.
Déjà, rien qu'avec le titre, il fallait que je me le procure.
Six contes qui parlent de jeunes filles courageuses, braves, différentes, de tous horizons. J'ai beaucoup aimé les illustrations également.
Et hop, il finit dans la bibliothèque de ma fille et j'espère bien pouvoir lui lire quand elle sera un peu plus grande.
À mettre entre toutes les petites mains et les plus grandes aussi. 😉

Six empowering stories of brave, young girls from Zanzibar, Japan, China and beyond. The hardback is beautifully illustrated with an introduction by Jacqueline Wilson. I read one tale with my six year old niece and she always asks to re-read it. A truly lovely collection.

Sprookjesachtige verhalen van verschillende continenten met kleurrijke tekeningen. Fijn dat het eens niet gaat over prinsessen die zitten te wachten om met een prins te trouwen, wel over eigenzinnige meisjes die bijvoorbeeld olifanten wassen en de zee trotseren!

Voorgelezen in groep 5. Fijn dat de krachtige, eigenzinnige, zelfredzame meisjes centraal staan in dit boek, met al hun eigenheid. Meisjes in sprookjes hoeven niet altijd maar gered te worden. Ze maken zelf de weg wel vrij. :)

I love this time of year; the beautiful anthologies and collections start piling in, almost too many to read. This one I definitely made time for. Five folktales from around the world, each featuring a brave, clever girl who solves problems on her own.
You'll know Gretal and Hansel, of course, and probably the Snow Queen, but the others may be new to you. Each story is illustrated by a different artist, so there's plenty of styles to look at and enjoy. I love collections with stories I haven't read before, and this one certainly delivers on that.

A beautiful collection of fairy stories from different countries, featuring adventurous heroines! Straight away you can sense that this book is so much more inclusive for the classroom. And great to sit on the shelf with the traditional fairy tales, so our young people can compare them and question if they could be the heroine of the story or would they prefer to be rescued?
The book features 6 empowering stories, beautifully illustrated, so excellent to read aloud to the class (from nursery) or for older children to read alone. The illustrations do bring the stories to life if young children wanted to read alone too.
It's important to add that Jacqueline Wilson has written an introduction to the tales, this name alone will encourage children to read these stories.

Este livro foi o estímulo de bons sonhos à minha Pequenina Leitora. Na hora de deitar, li uma história por noite, as quais ela adorou! No dia seguinte, ela contava partes das narrativas que lhe ficaram mais gravadas na memória.
Com base em contos já muito conhecidos, outros de lendas e mitos, as meninas são as heroínas! E que belas lições nos trazem, dos vários pontos do mundo: Alemanha, Zanzibar, Japão, Índia, China e Dinamarca.
Recomendo a todas as famílias que queiram sonhar com aventuras e meninas aventureiras.
Com base em contos já muito conhecidos, outros de lendas e mitos, as meninas são as heroínas! E que belas lições nos trazem, dos vários pontos do mundo: Alemanha, Zanzibar, Japão, Índia, China e Dinamarca.

Comme dit dans le résumé : Un recueil de contes du monde féministe et inspirant. En revanche certains contes sont bien trop synthétisés ce qui rend parfois l'histoire un peu confuse; c'est le cas pour le compte originel de la reine des neiges de Andersen qui, de base, est un conte assez long. J'ai bien aimé le conte de Tamasha et surtout celui de Chandra.

This seems like a book I would get my mum to read aloud to me, over and over, as a child. The stories are well written and all contain good role models, but, if anything, I wish they were longer (or that there were more stories).

A special book for adventurous girls - a collection of six stories. Hansel & Gretel as well as The Snow Queen are included with four (personally) unknown stories. Will make a beautiful gift. Equally enjoyed by my 8 and 4 year old.

Voici les héroïnes de ces contes japonais, chinois, indiens, scandinaves, africains... Gretel, Tamasha, Tokoyo, Chandra, Ondine et Gerda.
Elles viennent de tous horizons et ont en commun la bravoure et la détermination.
Rien ne les arrête, pas même un dragon des mers, la sécheresse, une malédiction.
Ces contes d'aujourd'hui, j'aurais souhaité les lire étant enfant, pour comprendre que oui, les filles, les femmes n'ont pas besoin d'un prince charmant pour les sortir de leur torpeur, qu'elles n'ont pas besoin d'être de jolies princesses idiotes pour attirer les regards ou l'empathie.
Les filles ont tellement plus que ça.
Et c'est ce que nous démontrent avec brio Jaqueline Wilson et les six illustratrices de talent qui ont collaboré avec elle.
Les graphismes sont adorables et les contes nous rappellent avec authenticité que les filles peuvent être, et sont astucieuses, actives, rusées, malicieuses !
Elles tirent à l'arc, soignent des animaux, travaillent, affrontent des monstres, sauvent des peuples de la famine...
Nous sommes bien loin de Blanche-Neige, Aurore, ou encore Cendrillon !
Place à la modernité.
Ce livre tellement beau de part son message et son aspect nous fait voyager et nous rappelle à nous, les filles, petites et grandes, que tout est possible.

Dit boek valt alleen al op door zijn cover. Prachtige tekeningen van verschillende illustrators en gouden letters en accenten op een donkere achtergrond. Heel goed gekozen! Het geeft meteen het gevoel dat je een boek vol mooie verhalen in je handen hebt, magisch.
Wat Helena en ik beide erg leuk vonden is dat de sprookjes uit verschillende landen afkomstig zijn. Dat brengt een stukje extra magie. Op de wereldkaart hebben we opgezocht waar de landen liggen en dit leek de verhalen nog sprekender te maken. Echt een grote toevoeging!
Een ander leuk gegeven is dat meisjes wat beter worden neergezet. Eens wat anders dan de lieflijke prinsesjes die je vaak tegen komt in verhalen. De meisjes in al deze verhalen zijn slim en moedig. Er is niets mis met prinsessenverhalen, die worden hier ook verslonden, maar daar zijn de vrouwelijke personages vaak afhankelijk. Leuk om op deze manier een aantal verhalen te bundelen waarin meisjes zelf hun boontjes doppen.
Het taalgebruik is soms een beetje lastig, er komen weleens moeilijke woorden in voor. Toch had dit boek iets over zich waardoor het Helena niet stoorde. De verhalen spraken misschien wel zo tot de verbeelding dat ze er helemaal in op ging en het verhaal goed genoeg kon volgen.
De verhalen over ‘Grietje en Hans’ en ‘De Sneeuwkoningin’ kenden we al maar de andere vier verhalen waren nieuw voor ons. Ook een pluspunt want er zijn meer mooie verhalen dan de hele bekende verhalen alleen. De lengte van de verhalen was overigens ook in orde. Niet te kort maar langer hadden ze ook niet moeten zijn. Nu werden ze niet langdradig maar kregen de verhalen wel de ruimte om goed uit de verf te komen.
Helena en ik waren het erover eens dat dit boek eigenlijk zelfs te weinig verhalen bevat… Van ons zouden er dus nog wel veel meer van dit soort mooie vertellingen uitgebracht mogen worden!

Stoere sprookjes over avontuurlijke meisjes vertaald door Imme Dros
Sprookjes zijn tof maar gaan wel vaak over moedige prinsen en stoere ridders. Terwijl er ook veel super stoere moedige meisjes zijn. Geloof je me niet? Dan moet je zeker dit boek kopen.
Imme vertaalde 6 sprookjes van over heel de wereld met telkens een meisje in de glansrijke hoofdrol. Grietje (van Hans), Tamasha (uit Zanzibar), Tokoyo (uit Japan), Chandra (uit India), Zeemeisje (uit China) en Gerda zullen je hart veroveren en zin geven om zelf je vleugels uit te slaan. Of je de verhalen nu voorgelezen krijgt of ze zelf leest, ze betoveren je. Of je 9 bent of 99, ze geven je zin om zelf avonturen te gaan beleven.
Het boek is ook prachtig vormgegeven met per sprookje een andere illustratrice. Zoals je al op de mooie cover kan zien zijn de tekeningen stuk voor stuk een streling voor het oog.
Stoere sprookjes is een boek dat harten gaat veroveren en een vaste plek op de boekenplank naast je bed gaat krijgen. Een klassieker in wording. Met een leeslint én plaats om je naam voorin te schrijven; twee extra pluspunten voor een sowieso al prachtig boek!
