This book is a great way to introduce history to a child. Mostly everyone has heard the little song called Yankee Doodle. This book is about the people of the colonies got together to fight against the British government and fight for their freedom. This story also explains who were called Yankee Doodle and why. By using the little tune, the story is told by using that tune. A child can sing the story. Also if a child wants to sing the yankee Doodle song, the book has the song at the beginning.

Overall, this books is a great read. The images go with what the words are trying to explain. Throughout the book there are side notes that explain certain things and words. For example, the side notes explain who the Red Coats are and why they were called the Red Coats.This is a fun way to learn history if a child really doesn't like to learn bout history. Another thing about this book is that instead of the characters being drawn as people, they are drawn as animals. This may be able to keep the readers attention a bit more.

In Gary Chalk's book, "Yankee Doodle", he recreates the major events of the war. He starts off with the Boston Tea Party, to the Battle of Bunker Hill, from Vally Forge, to the Yankees' victory at Yorktown. His animated characters are fun and make the story interesting. Mr. Chalk also added in some poetry that made the story easier to understand.

I liked this book because it broke down the events of the war into a very simple way. I think the way the characters were portrayed made it that much better. The characters and illustrations just made the story feel more life like.

This book could be used to help a class understand the events of the war. It's easy to read and has a easy plot line that could be a useful teaching tool.

adorable illustrations to go with full lyrics for the song by the same name. would be humorous to read for older children as well as appealing to younger children. a read aloud for multiple ages within the homeschooling family.

This book is about the Civil War. It tells you about each battle and the stuff between like Paul Revers ride. This book would be great for 1st-4th. I think this book is a very good history lesson in a fun way.
