Rosemary Wells is an American writer and illustrator of children's books. She often uses animal characters to address real human issues. Some of her most well-known characters are Max & Ruby and Timothy from Timothy Goes To School (both were later adapted into Canadian-animated preschool television series, the former’s airing on Nickelodeon (part of the Nick Jr. block) and the latter’s as part of PBS Kids on PBS).

In all honesty, this Max book was not as terrible as the last one I read.

I actually enjoyed it a bit.

It's a procedural book all about getting dressed, but since Max is the baby brother in this instance, he makes mistakes along the way, which is cause for hilarity.

I just don't like the book that much. The sister is overbearing. If I were Max I wouldn't want my, maybe one year older, sister bossing me around and making me attend her tea party in clothes I hate. I can totally empathize with him.

But it's a good little book. I think kids would like it.

Young readers will relate to wanting to get dressed themselves but having difficulty.

This book has similar elements to Blue Hat, Green Hat by Sandra Boynton.

As soon as I think we've read all these books, I find a new one at the library. Natalie didn't like this anywhere near as much as Max's Toys, but she did like it. Very cute story about getting dressed.

My four year old was a little old for these when I finally got them. So, not as interested in them as perhaps he could be; and he is as unfriendly to the new suit idea as Max. But I was charmed.

I really enjoy Rosemary Wells books and especially enjoy the Max and Ruby books. Max has a new suit to wear and decides, after Ruby dresses him, to put it on himself....all mixed up.

Ruby invites Max to her Bunny Scout party. At first Max declines when Ruby wants him to wear his new suit, but eventually Max decides to dress up, but he puts the suit on improperly.
