The main character does discuss her issues with her full figured appearance but surprisingly she doesn't let it consume her and finds a way to make it work to her advantage.(less)

Of course, like every movie adaptation, it's not an exact copy of the book, but it did quite a good job, I think. Yes, two characters, who I liked a lot in the book, are missing. Also, in the book Bo is a far more developed character, in the movie he almost has no backstory. Will's mum, on the other hand, is a more detailed, nuanced character in the movie which I liked a lot. The final of the beauty contest is getting a bit more room, not only focusing on Will but on the other girls like Millie as well. (less)

I am sorry for the skinny people who feel attacked by the narrative, but I perceived the book as the story of a girl conscious of her own body and struggles with herself to come to terms with it.
